1. could be a two horse race, what happens if there's another tie?
 2.
Like Rockford Stone, I found myself with a very long shortlist. Finally I boiled it down to steve's entry, largely due to the elastically excellent bassline. I saw 13 Guitars at the Merseyside Guitar Show this afternoon, and his basses are very nice indeed - the winner of this month's competition will be very pleased.
Thank you Mr H, very kind of you to say so
 3. Managed to choose who to vote for but it was a hard decision. Well done to everyone who put a track forward, very high standard and a very eclectic mix of songs.
 4. hopefully I'll be able to go through them all in one sitting this afternoon, good luck, and thanks to 13 guitars
 5.
great jobs paul and garry. love these two songs, too. there is so much creativity and crafmanship on this board. I am happy to be a part of it. one of you guys will enjoy a new bass soon!
yeah, good luck everyone, I've not had the opportunity to listen to all the tunes yet, I'll hopefully be able to do so this week when we have a list with them all on. I'm already looking forward to next months picture
 6. I'd be interested to hear some opinions too, seems to be very guitar orientated
 7. Actually, can I change that to one jack-sized clamp and one of the locking jack sockets with clamp (the 12 Euro ones). I'm happy to paypal the cash over in advance if the order is starting to get too big
 8. Hi Clarky, can you put me down for two jack socket sizes pls? ta
 9.
Welcome aboard! It's not too late. Grab a bass and record your gut feeling. It's what I did Mine might not have the polished quality of the others but as Silldx says, if it come from your soul it's all good!
absolutely; go for it
 10.
Yeah like this one, great bass line, can tell you are a classy bassist, sounds like Scooby Doo backing music in the second part.

Hi Steve, this is bloomin' great! Really cool, atmospheric intro and then it breaks into a ska number - which is just music to my ears. Great bass playing and you've done a good job of the lyrics and vocal too. Nice one!
Thanks chaps, I appreciate your comments
 11. There's been some really good entries so far, here's mine http://soundcloud.com/stevemcevoy/steve-mcevoy-mr-shellsuit-and I could have continually twiddled and re-recorded bits and gone round in circles, but enough's enough, time to upload it and move on. First part was done in Sibelius and then transferred into Reason to record the remainder. Hope you like it
 12.
I bought this recently as I love Danny Thompson's playing with John Martyn and David Sylvian. It was recorded in 1991 (and it shows in the picture quality) but its really quite inspiring. Its a bit slow off the mark (reminiscences about washtub basses etc) but once he gets into playing 'Victoria' its wonderful stuff. In particular I had always wondered about his superb tone and sustain and I discovered that he raised the nut (making it very gruelling for his left hand) in order to deliver the sort of volume and sustain he gets with open strings. I reckon his left and right hands must be like Popeye's! No wonder my wimpy hands cannot deliver anything like his type of tone. Anyways for £8 its a snip, as long as you have a VHS player http://www.laceysjam...715/1375408.htm

It's been re-released on DVD: http://www.dannythom...ically-speaking
thanks for the heads up Clarky & Sarah, got myself an early xmas present
 13. good stuff Paul, nice to hear that things are going well for you. Our harp player introduced me to West Westons stuff a while ago, nice gig
 14.
Right then. Heres my attempt. Not entirely happy with it, but bored listening to #2 son's excuses for not adding a bit of guitar to the second bit so went with some old bolloxs I eventually managed Run Scoob or Jim'll FixYa And under 3 mins as well
Nice, the second part had a vibe of some stuff Mike Oldfield used to do with the Gong drummer Pierre Moerlen. re sibling excuses, I have the same problem getting to add vocals to tracks, hence my impending feeble efforts
 15.
Yes you can! Best thing that's happened to the Recording forum. And the best challenge of its sort that I've been involved in. Granted, there seems to be a limited number of folk getting stuck in (which is typical of these things), but there's a real buzz from those that are and it's much more friendly than other similar competitions I've seen (which can, quite frankly, become tw@t magnets). This is exactly what music forums are for in my opinion - making and sharing music, not just talking about it! Great idea. And well done Charic for setting it up
+1 on all counts
 16.
Singing!
I use the term loosely, obviously
 17. Mine's pretty much complete except for the vocals, tried singing today, but i was very flat
 18.
Nice. Lots of nice variation around the theme, kept my interest throughout. Reminds me of Pink Floyd, in terms of style. Will this eventually be tracked with mic'd instruments? It'd be nice to hear real cello/keys/sax on there with some room ambience. Melodically it's a nice track, well done! Here's an old demo I'm currently working on. Need to add some more sections, flesh out the vocal and re-record the guitars amped up (current guitars are guide tracks done with amplitube). http://soundcloud.co...rpoise-20th-may
Nice idea for a thread Wil, I'll take up the baton I really liked the track actually, the vocal line over the verse harmony was really nice, and the variation in the chorus was nice - the song felt it was going somewhere. The middle 8 was the part I liked the least, (but one part has to be I suppose) but the ending made up for it, stick some vocals over that (IMHO) and that could be a really epic end to a great track. I notice its a work in progress, I'd be interested to hear how it finished up. Here's one of mine, it's a modern classical narrative kind of thing done in Sibelius 7. http://soundcloud.com/stevemcevoy/the-ghosts-of-the-travelling
 19. I'm going with the sinister theme myself, hit a bit of an impasse at the moment tho'
 20.
In the October thread i said i would enter this months. It ain't just cos of the chance to win a bass but i can imagine i fair few will enter this month now.
Yep, I'd already decided to join in this month, opportunity to win a custum bass??? bonus!
 21. just added a new track to the bc soundcloud group.... not sure how to embed the soundcloud links without a bit of ferreting about....
 22. we use some Kam gear (with a DMX controller now), IIRC one of the units has to be set to master, but can't remem how, that's prolly not that much help is it?
 23. electroharmonix do a little headphone amp which might act as a preamp for a piezo pickup, I dunno what the input impedance is so you might need a buffer of some sort
 24. Jay, if you're not sorted, send me a pm with your contact details, I might be able to help
 25. Due to an unfathomable calendar error, both my bands gave a gig on 2nd November, so I might be looking for a dep (altho' we might just be sorted). It's a paid gig (obviously) doing upbeat blues and jump - vids of us in action here - http://www.youtube.c...d?feature=watch Phone number is 07949 778220 for more info. ta Steve Bloody Hell I'm disorganised today. the gig is in Macclesfield (edited because I don't know my arse from my elbow) sorted now
