1.
Windows movie maker is also free. It's a bit naff when it comes to outputing the file and it's fairly limited but it's OK for simple work and you can cut avi's up easily. It's part of windows live (free download)
I've got this, but can't figure out how to output the split files
There is Virtualdub, which is either freeware or open source, one or t'other.

+1 That's what I use, here's a link. Get VirtualDub, open the file. Make sure audio and video are set to 'direct stream copy' in the menu so it doesn't try to re-encode the video. Hold down the shift key and drag the slider around (which snaps to 'key frames' which are faster to seek to and are the points where it's best to snip the video), place the start and end markers atthe desired points and hit save to export that potion of the avi. If you can't open the avi, try installing the latest version of ffdshow.
cheers, I'll have a look at this one
  2.
If you are on mac already then iMovie is pretty good. Really easy to use too and free!
sadly i'm on a pc mate, thanks anyway
  3. I'm a floater too, switched from anchor about 12 months ago, as mentioned above, it's really helpful with muting
  4. cheers mate, I'll see if anyone comes up with some freeware before i splash out
  5. can anyone recommend a freeware avi splitter? I have some video footage of a recent gig, but each file is a full 45 minute set and I'd like to split them into individual songs. tia
  6. I'd just keep it as a block and send it off to be finished. When it returned, I'd be able to sell my TV and just stare at that all night
  7.
Price as stated £30+p&p no offers, sorry. Trying to raise funds for another instrument while unemployed, so will wait till I get what I want for them or keep them and try another time.
I think that's a really good price for what you're getting - there was a chap in the effects forum who was asking about getting started in effects IIRC - you may want to have a look and send him a pm
  8. I started as a guitarist (classical lessons when I was about 11 - I had wanted to learn sax but those lessons were booked up) - did that for a few years then progressed to electric. when I was in my late 20's, I started jamming with another guitarist and I decided to buy a cheap bass so we could record some backing tracks on a four track. I started noodling with it and never really bothered with guitar again, that was around 17 or 18 years ago
  9. yeah, that's just beautiful
  10.
The Digitech Bad Monkey is cheap, has not a bad sound & not too extreme .
+1
  11. what kind of music are you into/want to play? that might help narrow it down a bit also. Definately buy second hand. If you any good with a soldering iron you could always consider building your own.
  12. fascinating - I've not seen an amp build thread before

    DIY PCB Printing
Well that seems to have worked out ok. Iron set a little hotter than Wool and pressed for about 7 mins. Initially I set it just lower than wool and left it for 3 mins - which would have been enough for the blue p'n'p, but I had nothing transferred. A little hotter and warmer seemed to do the trick. A fair bit of retouching with the etch-resist pen cos I had no faith in the print density, but it seemed to etch ok after the remains of the stuck paper had been carefully wet-rubbed off with fingers. A couple of the less dense tracks were tested for continuity but they are sound so Mr Ritch has a PCB to go.
looks great Al, I found this page which talked about using glossy magazine pages - I don't know if there would be any added benefits tho. Unfortunately I don't have a laser printer, otherwise I'd have a go. I'll prolly be putting some business your way in the near future.
I'd say thats a little too tricky by hand etch-resist pen but I'm keen to try the normal paper/laser print route No prob, will do Be interested for my own projects to see if I can get the iron temperature just right to let laser-printed paper work properly.
cheers mate

have you emailed to ask when they will have more stocks in? it may be easier (and I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot cheaper) to wait for that rather than source someone to do a one off board.
  19. I smugly voted for option 4 - I think you should go chrome
  20. can't you just contact the engineer through the studio and ask him?
  21. very neat job, I use two of Omni 10.5s (one speaker in each) and they sound fantastic, I haven't looked at another cab since
