Get VirtualDub, open the file. Make sure audio and video are set to 'direct stream copy' in the menu so it doesn't try to re-encode the video. Hold down the shift key and drag the slider around (which snaps to 'key frames' which are faster to seek to and are the points where it's best to snip the video), place the start and end markers atthe desired points and hit save to export that potion of the avi.
If you can't open the avi, try installing the latest version of [url="http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/"]ffdshow[/url].[/quote]
