Hmmm, Feeping - is that a safe practice, or indeed legal........?
If you've never feeped a starfire, you haven't lived, thats what my old great grandad used to say It brings my typing skills into question tho, the 'f' is nowhere near the 'k'
That's because it sounds just right in the mix doesn't it
Yeah you were right Ste, took a bit of getting used to tho - dirtier than my usual sound of late. The most gratifying thing was the way both guitarists kept turning round to look quizzicallyly at their amps
Chokes are fixed inductors primarily intended to "choke" off alternating currents, including rf from DC supply lines. The "rf choke" is designed to have a high impedance over a large range of frequencies
taken from http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/basics/chokes.htm AFAIK its the old fashioned way of building filters that pre-dates op amps - altho some electronics guru will prolly be along soon to rap my knuckles and correct me BBN - you're right of course, I'm sure the HAS filters are more complex, my statement was one of wine-induced optimism
sounds like you need a HAS sound varitone they work very well with darkstar'd basses, i had one in a single DS holllow body and basically you have 6 tones at the twist of a knob have a look here review Highly recomended. HAS sound get in quick as they are shutting down that side of the business. You might get the impression i want you to keep the starfire, hollow body basses with darkstars are a unique sound and you will be lucky to find another.
I've come across the has-sound website before, but I'd intended to knock something up myself, it's only replicating a tone circuit using a resistor instead of a potentiometer after all. I'd be inclined to guess that the has circuits are just switched resisitor/capacitor pairs. Cheers for the heads up tho'
Do you have a price?
I'd be wanting around £600 collected for her if I do sell. As far as trades/px's go, things I may be interested in are ERBs (especially headless), EUBs, possibly a Boss RC50, Markbass or other lightweight head. I don't have any cash to add to the deal (two kids at Xmas have seen to that ), but I may have other stuff to add to a trade if needed. Not interested in Fenders tho' - been there and tried them, not my cup of tea. As I've said above, if I do sell, I'll put more pics up, I would prefer to meet up face to face as I have no hard case, and I'd like the buyer to be sure they're happy with the bass (I've no doubt that would be the case)

as promised, heres a couple of pics in 'daylight' - I'm in Manchester so I use the term loosely As you can see, she's a bit dusty from lack of use! The switches are an addition from a previous owner, they're currently 'wired' as producer switches, but I was considering hard-wiring some resistor/capacitor combinations so I could switch between the standard tone pot or a preset. I'll add more pics etc if this turns into a full blown sale thread
Steve, don't rush into selling it too soon. The Dark Stars can take a while to get used to; they are an unusual pickup. I'm missing mine.

I would agree with that. I've a single one on my Warmoth and initially I wasn't so sure but now it's my No. 1 bass. Very wide frequency band imo.
I'm certainly going to defer my decision till after the weekend, as I have a band rehearsal Sunday evening and I'll give it a try on a few songs. To everyone who requested pics, I'll try to take some tomorrow if the lights good As regards to price, i've had some thoughts, but not completely decided yet. Sorry to be mysterious, but it's still a feeler ATM

15/12/-8 - I've decided to keep the Starfire after all, cheers to everyone who suggested I reconsider So, I have my Starfire with darkstars in, tried it at reasonable volumes, and while it sounds great, it's not really my sound. In between getting the starfire and taking delivery of the dark stars (about six weeks) , I traded my precision for a ray, which I then upgraded with a status graphite neck, and now I'm pretty much sorted. The bass is black, with lots of chrome, and looks the absolute dogs - I will try and get some pics up over the next few days. I'm not sure I really want to let it go, but it isn't going to get played as much as it deserves to so it should really go to someone who will. So there you go, it's taken me a fair few days to get to the stage of posting a feeler, I thought I'd gauge if there's any interest.

Any Steinberger Players need strings??
steve replied to DanOwens's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
hmm, thanks for the heads up, I may be interested - I'll need to check they'll fit my hohner. SJA, are you interested, if so, dyu want to split them instead of bidding against each other? -
I never was the most patient one, thought I should add I would love to trade it for a hohner or similar bass in the headless cricket bat style(not sure what they are called).
Don't get any ideas about mine but they are great little basses
