1. Bump for a fantastic bass - it was mine before Mikes, and I loved it - I only moved it on because I wanted to go back to playing a passive bass and was gassing for Mikes precision. Someone will be very happy with this.
2. So I gave it a fair old go, and left it weighted down under a book with my practice amp on top, and it isn't dead flat, but it is a lot better. It might flatten out more if I continued with the process, but I want to get on and get playing with it so that'll be it, at least for the time being. Thanks for all the advice.
3. You could always put the old bridge back on and see if the problem goes away. If it does then it must be a string height issue. Personally I'd check that before disconnecting pickups
4. thanks again for the info, I'll give it a go and report back.......
5.
the hot water thing did nothing for mine
john, was it straight out of the kettle? can you give me more info of what happened when you snapped yours? cheers

8. Thanks for the replies chaps, I'll give those two a try in the order of least brutality! I perhaps shouldn't try the iron method in case the wife chucks a handful of crumpled clothes at me while I'm halfway through
9. The Fender Musicmaster I have just acquired has a warped pickguard, which I'd like to try and straighten out. I've read in various places about putting them in an oven, or very hot water to soften and warm them, and then leaving them under a heavy book. Has anybody tried any of these, or has any alternative surefire suggestions? thanks
10.
Congrats! It is very 'aww'. What an interesting bass. It's like if I went into a car showroom that had modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis and then in the corner there's a little Standard Pennant or old Fiat 500; I wouldn't spend two seconds near the supercars. That was badly put but you get the point. Cool bass!
cheers mate, I know what you mean, I like its simplicity
11.
They do crop up on the bay fairly regularly, that German shop always seems to have a couple of overpriced ones. Usually still cheap compared to other US basses of that era, and a fantastic bass for the money, best to avoid the active graphic-EQ models (II & IV) – they’re noisy and gobble batteries.
I had a look, he has two on atm, cheapest (passive) one is £500 - sadly I'm not funded right now
They’ve got a unique, slightly acoustic sound, and quite a few decent players have used them; Jah Wobble, Barry Adamson (Magazine / Nick Cave), Ross Vallory (Journey – you can hear the Magnum cutting right through the mix on “Don’t stop believing”), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), and Paul Haig (Tool).
That first Magazine album is a killer
12.
That Ovation as absolutely gorgeous!
+1, now I have gas again, but for a fretted one
13.
Cheers OHM, Plan to get a black one for the Lakland too. Not really digging the white one at the mo.
Oh yes, Black/Black/Maple with all that chrome will look the dogs! Can I request in advance? PICS!
14. Traded with my guitarist for my Squier VMJ, here's my new (old) musicmaster. It's got a couple of issues which I can hopefully sort out, but it also has a nice vibe going on Needs a damn good clean, new strings (shortscale!) and prolly a different pup as the output of the existing (which may be stock) is quite low. I have a Squier strat that I fitted a couple of Kent Armstrong Humbuckers to (like these), I'm going to try one of them and prob fit the one from the MM in the squier for a comparison. I wouldn't have minded a Dark Star in it, but I ain't doin' no routin'! I'm also going to bypass the pots as I've heard they are tone-suckas
15.
bump before ebay.....
with a potential change to my fretted 4 situation looming, I'm also looking for trades for a CIJ Precision
16. that's terrible mate, good luck recovering it, hopefully you'll get to nail the f***ers who nicked it too

Modding a CS-3

I did the mod for my guitarist, he seemed happy enough with it
18. It's a shame you have to sell your gear to get you out of a bad situation mate, good luck with it
19. i recently tried this (see avatar), and while I couldn't hear much difference, the argument for having the speakers nearer your ears is good enough for me
20. That's a good looking bass OHM (altho' I prefer black/black/maple like your lakky). Did you fit the bridge cover or was it already installed?
