So I gave it a fair old go, and left it weighted down under a book with my practice amp on top, and it isn't dead flat, but it is a lot better. It might flatten out more if I continued with the process, but I want to get on and get playing with it so that'll be it, at least for the time being. Thanks for all the advice.

You could always put the old bridge back on and see if the problem goes away. If it does then it must be a string height issue. Personally I'd check that before disconnecting pickups

Thanks for the replies chaps, I'll give those two a try in the order of least brutality! I perhaps shouldn't try the iron method in case the wife chucks a handful of crumpled clothes at me while I'm halfway through

The Fender Musicmaster I have just acquired has a warped pickguard, which I'd like to try and straighten out. I've read in various places about putting them in an oven, or very hot water to soften and warm them, and then leaving them under a heavy book. Has anybody tried any of these, or has any alternative surefire suggestions? thanks

Traded with my guitarist for my Squier VMJ, here's my new (old) musicmaster. It's got a couple of issues which I can hopefully sort out, but it also has a nice vibe going on [attachment=4728:PIC_0494.jpg] [attachment=4727:PIC_0493.jpg] [attachment=4726:PIC_0492.jpg] Needs a damn good clean, new strings (shortscale!) and prolly a different pup as the output of the existing (which may be stock) is quite low. I have a Squier strat that I fitted a couple of Kent Armstrong Humbuckers to (like [url="http://www.wdmusic.com/hum_canceling_strat_hot_white_29853_prd1.htm"]these[/url]), I'm going to try one of them and prob fit the one from the MM in the squier for a comparison. I wouldn't have minded a Dark Star in it, but I ain't doin' no routin'! I'm also going to bypass the pots as I've heard they are tone-suckas

I did the mod for my guitarist, he seemed happy enough with it

It's a shame you have to sell your gear to get you out of a bad situation mate, good luck with it

That's a good looking bass OHM (altho' I prefer black/black/maple like your lakky). Did you fit the bridge cover or was it already installed?
