1. wow, a custom bass for your first one, I bet there won't be many stories like that! My first was a Westone Thunder II IIRC, I bought it when I was playing g**tar about 12 years ago, and was jamming with another guitarist. The intention was to use it to record some bass parts to our twin riffing madness, but shortly after buying it, I realised that I hadn't picked up a g**tar since, and I'd been enjoying jamming all the more. The rest, so they say, is history. I've got a lot more out of music, and haven't hit any brick walls since.... and the bass? well, I defretted it a few years ago, and then sold it later on to fund an EUB, which I've since sold
  2. Nice one.
by the way, did anyone notice the brief cameo appearence from Ted the Dog? you need good eyes!
0:30 into the vid, what's the prize?
  3.
The holy grail is here :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php the HTC user's forum! I'm on there too.. tho' not often. You'll be amazed at what you can do!
Yeah, I registered on there the other day, It's a bit more l33t than on here, but I agree there's loads of good stuff. I don't think I'm ready to cook my own ROM yet, but I've been dipping my toe in the water, so to speak. How far into all that business have you got?
  4. This is my first one, I was pleasantly surprised at what it could do and how much tinkering it lets you get up to I haven't got round to trying the voice recorder yet tho - I've been too busy finding funkier versions of the crappy orange applications that come with it I'm going to have a dig round for a freeware metronome, I could do with one where the screen flashes so that our drummer can see it
  5.
especially demonstrating the technique in use during string crossing etc.
+1

  7.
Oh, on a tangent, I did find a really good metronome, a app of pitch tones.. a spectrum analyser and an electronic tuner and an SPL meter for pocket PC. The last 3 weren't so good, as they rely on the rather naff on board mic lol
Hi dood, I'm using an HTC TYTN II (or Kaiser).I was thinking of using a stereo mike as an extension of the mike used in the handsets (I know it's mono, I hadn't thought that bit through). I do have a (slightly) battered Archos mp3 recorder, which has become a bit twitchy, I was trying to reduce the amount of gear, plus associated leads and PSU's I was taking down to band prac. It didn't occur to me that the ppc would need to be a usb host. What was the name of metronome software you found? cheers steve
  8. I've just got a PocketPC, and was wondering if anyone else with one has any experience of any stereo recording applications. It runs Windows Mobile 6, and it has a mini usb socket which I'd be looking to get a usb mike for cheers
  9. thanks for everyones input, I think at the levels we play at, I'd be likely to get a clipped round the ear with a Les Paul long before I was going to toast some of my kit
  10. @ gypsymoth and bill so are you saying in your respective (and respected) opinions, that I haven't got enough headroom with the Hartkes?
  11. Only a few months old, in excellent condition, only selling because I've just bought an ampeg head, I can get some pics up if anyone needs em, but, if you look at any new ones online, thats what this one will look like. 300W into 4ohm, 185 into 8ohm, 2U rackmount. Brilliant amp. Cheapest I've seen em is £178 at Thomann, buy mine and you're effectively getting shipping and a rackbag thrown in.
  12.
Yes. For a sensible amp:cab power rating ratio I'd recommend within a 2:1 either way, i.e. an amp with between 200W and 800W power for the Hartkes. Typical power draw with program material (i.e. recorded music) with your amp running at full volume (i.e. clipping on the peaks) is 1/8 power. So an 800W amp will only be averaging 100W power output. For live bass guitar this ratio tends to be even larger. Alex
That's brilliant, and thanks for responding so quickly Alex. So I've actually got enough headroom with my 2 Hartkes. Cool
  13. I was reading this web article which states right at the bottom
5. Selecting amplifier power In general, the amplifier power needs to be larger than the speaker's rated power. This is because an amplifier only delivers its rated output power with sinewave signal, and delivers much less with a real signal with dynamics. As ageneral guideline, it is recommended to use an amplifier delivering 50% more power than the speaker's average ("RMS") power. For example, for a speaker with 450W average power, an amplifier with an output of 700W may be used. If a small amplifier is used, sufficient level will not be reached, nor the perception that it is attained, so the signal will tend to be clipped to compensate, thus endangering the integrity of the speaker."
Is this correct? If so, I assume my 450W into 4ohm Ampeg head be well matched to Hartke 2.5XL and a 115XL (or another 2.5XL), which are both 200W @8ohms. Could anyone confirm this? thanks chaps
Am i to take it that you've bought it then or that you're trying to sell me a Squier P5?
sorry, forgot to add the quotes to the previous post, Yes, I've bought it, but if you'd like me to try and sell you my squier P I'll have a go, was that what you meant in the PM?

    mixing cabs?
Could he not just turn his existing 2.5 on its end and have it higher up to achieve the same result??
I've just re-read this, I assume you mean in conjunction with the 1x15? I'll try that next week at practice (when my svt3 pro should have arrived).

    mixing cabs?
Get a second 2.5XLand stick rubber feet on the side of each cab and stack them end up to give you a 4 vertical driver arrangement. These will have pleny of oomph, you'll get a better sense of air being shifted behind you and you'll have a much lighter and more portale rig tat still delivers. Trust me.
hmmmm, thats an interesting idea, when I use the 2.5 on it's own I always stand it on its side. i read about that on the BFM forums, but can't remember why I need to do it. I still have concerns about using 2 200W rated cabs with a 450W rated amp. I know i'm not going to be running it at full power but I don't want to run any risk of blowing a speaker.
  19. that's lovely si, but sadly out of my reach
  20. Hi John bump generally means to 'bump' your for sale thread to the top of the first page so it gets seen again other stuff TBH = to be honest WHY = what have you (in respect of trading gear for 'what have you') AFAIK = as far as i know those are the ones that spring to mind......
  21. Hi Mark, Have you come across Finale Notepad, its free once you register. I've only been using it for a couple of days, but seems to do everything I need ok. here's the link

    mixing cabs?
Just to put a small damper on that. Just because the output electrically from the amp will be evenly distributed doesn't mean the output volume will be evenly distributed between two cabs. That is a function of the cab sensitivity measured in dB per watt at a specific distance from the cab. If cab A has a 103db/W @1m sensitivity and cab B has a 100db/W @ 1m sensitivity then A is twice as loud as B! If the distances are different then you into the inverse square law to try and even it up, which is more trouble than its worth IMO! Of course I fully expect somewhere with more knowledge to come in here at this point and show up any flaws in what I just said
thanks for that, I (sort of) get what you mean, and it has gone some way to clarify my original question, but I'll have to mull it over a bit for it to sink in..
  23. bump, open to trades/px's for WHY
