Is it the Jaguar mute you're thinking of? It's spring loaded, but requires quite a sizeable hole in the middle for the spring and won't fit under the cover. Not sure I'm adventurous enough to drill a hole that big in my bass! I was supposed to chuck the pic of it here, but my phone put it at the end of the reply...... Ahhh, I suppose a bit of wood would look better than a bit of string. You could be on to something. Have you experimented with different lollies? Any idea if a Fab would sound different compared to a Twister or Feast? You joke, but this was considered so I could have a PBass with flats/foam and another with rounds 😂

Yup, it's another how is it best to mute thread.......but slightly different! I have a PBass with a bridge cover and have been messing around with how to best use a mute with it. I've found just cutting a few slits in a bit of sponge and placing them over the top of the strings works best for me. However, the best tone to my ears is when I shove the sponge right unde the bridge cover. This has just enough of a muting effect and also has the bonus of hiding a bit of sponge under the cover. Great! What's not so great is that if I wanted to remove the mute for a song it's a bit fiddly to get the sponge out inbetween songs. Does anyone know of any device that is essentially a mute that fits under a PBass cover and has a quick release? As a bodge I could attach some string to the sponge so that I can easily pull it out, but I was wondering if there was a proper way of doing things.

If you're after a particular tone and it's essential to your band then I'd go for a back up that was as close to your number one as possible. Or at least something that gets you in the ballpark. However, just because I like different basses then I'd go for the single coil P. You could even put flats on it and play it with a damp sponge, the audience won't notice the difference 😁

HH tele's are a thing of beauty, great choice! Great setlist too - are you going for Motordamn's version of ballroom blitz?! If you have socials all setup then I'd be interested in giving you a follow seeing as you're roughly in my neck of the woods too!

Something you can shale your bum to...... I love this version, mostly for the energy in it and Jeremy Spencer's voice. There's loads of variations as John McVie noodles around the scales and I'm torn between trying to nail this version note for note or just make the whole thing up. I'll probably end up learning it then just making it up when we play it as a band. As long as the changes are in the right place and the turn around matches the guitar every now and again then that's all that really matters 😂

What's a mm between friends? 😁 Could well be right on that, I'm not 100% on Fender neck names and measurements. All I know is that the PB70US I had was a really great neck. If I could make it less tapered so it didn't widen out so much by the 12th fret then it'd be perfect. PS. Love the reasoning behind the M neck name 😂

Danger. I've always fancied the look of one of those but the Andertons site lists them as 42mm so I've written them off. Oh, hello GAS!

40mm is a very comfy size for me too. Gibson SG's are 40mm but also short scale, if that's any use to you? The Fender Precision B neck is 40mm, so the Nate Mendal and any 70s MIJ reissues would suit you. If you're looking at HB sort of money then I think their enhanced range is 40mm, although I haven't played one myself.

I prefer the look of more traditional basses, so it'll be a Fender for me please. Either the LPB Tony Franklin fretless or a pro 2 precision in dark night would be lovely 😊

I haven't played the new Squiers or heard any demos but don't they have humbuckers? Just something to think about if you were specifically after that single coil jazz honk. The Sire would get my vote. I've had a play on one of their Jazz' and really liked the preamp. The neck was really nice on it too.

My Ric cost £925 around 2002, which equates to about £1500ish nowadays and I think they're nearly £3k on Andertons at the mo. As much as I said £700ish was my limit earlier, I'd buy a new Ric in a heartbeat if anything happened to my one. It's also my 40th next year and the USA pro 2 in dark night or mercury is looking pretty tempting........

An EGC2000 is about $3k plus shipping and taxes, so I'd pay that if I could justify it. But I can't. Plus, the mid lower end of the market offers so much quality and value nowadays that I don't know if I'd pay more than £700 (and there's loads of really great basses under that).

You could just buy a 5 string if you want a versatile thumb rest.
