This looks to be about the same sort of size too, if you were feeling adventurous and wanted to go down the bitsa route..... https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/replacement-neck-for-p-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-no-finish Most of the finished varieties look to be sold out, but the maple is in stock... https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/replacement-neck-for-p-bass-solid-maple-w-finish

Ah, good shout - I had completely forgotten about the Squier. GAK lists it as being slightly wider at the nut though, so it may be worth having a nose around or emailing Fender to double check ...... https://www.gak.co.uk/en/squier-mike-dirnt-precision-bass-with-tortoise-shell-pickguard-artic-white/87304 But then this site backs up the 40mm nut width for v1 &2...... http://www.squierwiki.com/AS-Mike-Dirnt-Precision-Version-1-Bass

They're not cheap new and I haven't seen many pop up used, but I think the Mike Dirnt sig had a neck like that... https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars/precision-bass/fender-road-worn-mike-dirnt-p-bass Just to go a bit left field, does it have to be a P bass? The Gibson DC Jnr has a lovely neck. Iirc, it's about 40mm at the nut and is fairly round in the hand, without being too chunky.
  4. What a great thread!!!!!!!! I saw that Quicksand have got back together and have a new album on the way. Here's the first single from it.....
  5. I mostly use a Zoom B1Four and some headphones to play along to songs from Spotify. Every now and then I break out a 15w Rumble, but that's pretty rare since picking up the Zoom.
  6. You can't really go wrong with the SM58. That's about as much as I know about mics and vocals though! If the setup is just to stay in that room then maybe look at what old trace combo you could get? Built like tanks, reliable, they sound good and you can pick them up pretty cheap nowadays. A Sire P (can't remember their exact model) is another reliable choice that you can't go too far wrong with

I think that burst is so nice that anything would look good on it! Having said that, I'm also leaning toward the black.

AHH, gotcha. Sorry, I misread your post and thought this was your first foray into Jazziness. Apologies, I didn't mean to come across like I was teaching you to suck eggs! I feel the same as you about Fenders and often think they're a dull choice. Then I play one or hear one and remind myself what all the fuss is about! I'm sure tort would look equally stunning on that, you'll just knock a decade off with 60s Noel Redding look!

The black plate really gives it that 70s vibe, which I really dig and have on my G&L tribute...... Jazz necks are really nice to get around and can imagine yours is a dream. The only thing that took a bit of fiddling for me is eq'ing the thinness out, while still keeping that jazz bite. I took me a while to find a tone I was happy with, especially after playing with humbuckers for so long, but they're pretty versatile basses!

Lovely stuff - that burst looks really warm and I really like the black scratch plate with it. Enjoy your new toy!
  11. I think the whole festival was put together in a really short amount of time and all of the bands did it for free, which probably contributed to the lack of bigger bands too.
  12. Hopefully it's just a lull in the cycle rather than it being the death of rock or groups. Much of the last batch of big established groups seemed to come about in the 90s where there was a be a bit of a 60s mod revival in fashion and social taste that led to indie bands in the UK and then in punk in the US that led to grunge. Just an idea and I've got nothing that backs this, but hopefully it means were due a resurgence in guitar based groups, rather than listening to charts filled with whatever X factor based dullness that gets churned out!
  13. I'm never that impressed with the main stage headliners at download. It's (pretty much) always a bunch of bands who were massive 30-40 years ago and there never seems to be anyone new or on the up headlining. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of these bands, but it'd be nice if the organisers backed some new blood rather than it rotating between kiss, iron maiden and Def leppard et al. Who knows, maybe that's the only way to sell tickets? There are good bands out there, but admittedly, they're not as 'big' as the usual headliners. Maybe because hard rock/metal had its hay day when the old guard were in their prime?
  14. We're normally in room 3, 4 or 6. If you ever get a chance to use room 3 then I'd suggest giving it a go. There's a Marshall 2x15 cab in there that I love and, consequently, our guitarist hates 😆
  15. I'm usually there every week. The main shop might be spotless, but the rooms are still pretty dingy, really hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. Despite this, it's still one of my favourite spaces in London, the people are cool and it feels like you're jamming in someone's garage........probably because you're surrounded by garages! 😁
  16. Panic in Park Royal are good. Mill Hill music is a bit dingy, but I like it. Bally in Tottenham Hale are Ok. Pirate in Camden is really good and not too dear, I think they have one in Wembley too?
  17. Happy birthday!! Sounds like you've had the best weekend ever. Congrats on ACM, the new bass and for having the best boyf in the world! I'm now off to show this thread to my missus and will start dropping hints 😂
  18. I'm not so fussed about the neck profile (as long as it isn't a baseball bat), have never noticed different radiuses and I don't even know the string spacing of any of my basses either. The only thing I have a preference on is the finish on the neck and I prefer gloss or painted over satin. Maybe I should pay more attention!
  19. Got to put the SG and new pedal board through its paces last night at a band level and am happy as Larry with them! Have to have a bit of a shout out for pirate Studios too. I've only been to their Camden branch, but the gear is all pretty decent (the fender amp and cab is theirs) and it's nice to practice somewhere that's not grotty and doesn't smell of arm pits!!
  20. I'm into slower heavy stuff with a bit of a groove like eyehategod, crowbar and high on fire. I guess anything that's doom/sludge with a bit of swing that is a progression from Sabbath I'd be a fan of. I don't think it has to be fast with screaming vocals to be heavy for me, a couple of the heaviest tunes I've heard live were from Soundgarden and Melvin's, but I wouldn't call them heavy bands. 4th of July by Soundgarden is one of my all time favourites...
  21. The JC I had had had the strap button moved, the guy I bought if off then had it filled and just used the original button. I can't imagine he'd have done that if just moving the button cured the dive. I used a suede backed strap on mine and never found neck dive to be an issue, maybe a thin one of those solves your problem?
  22. Ha! I always think a P is like a Volvo estate too, trusty and like a bit of a boat but always gets the job done.
  23. I did the very same (but not with a new amp) and have decided to keep the trusty P bass. Turns out every bass player should own one after all!! 😂
  24. Creedance all the way. The Eagles are one of those bands that I just can't stand
  25. There needs to be a drooling reaction for posts containing a bass like that 😍
