Hey hey, I bought this in Dec 2015 with the intention of having a play around and modding it, but never got around to it, so it's time to go. It's been sat in a Thomannn gig bag (included) all this time still with the labels and protective covers over the pick ups and pick guard so it's in exactly the condition it came to me in. I've just noticed that I didn't mention in the title that this is a DEKO. As far as I can see it just needs a proper setup and you're good to go. At the minute I'd rather collection from Central or North London, but will post if it's still here in a week or so. The bass and bag was about £50 all in so grab yourself a bargain! Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
Jonesy replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
I was thinking that too, it's ridiculous that they go in a matter of minutes!! And even more annoying when you see them for sale 2nd hand at only a tenner or so less than you can buy the proper stock for new. Either we're all getting too quick with the auto alerts, there's only low levels of stock for each model, or someone is bulk buying loads (which could be the case if eBay is anything to go by!). Either way it's annoying and they should do something to limit the amount of instruments sold per transaction/customer. In other news, my 4 string PJ arrived the other day and I can't spot anything wrong with it that a little bit of setting up won't fix. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to set a bass up, but that's kind of the reason why I bought the bass, so all is good! The Jazz is on it's way too so I'll do photo's and that when it turns up! -

New stock up! https://m.thomann.de/gb/decorative_guitars_and_basses.html -
Because I'm stingy and don't want to spend £200-£300 on pups that will prob end up going in an epi t-bird with some sort of HB jazz neck =) I may end up doing it next year, but I have a couple of HB decko's on the way that need playing with first!!
Try it out! I owned one for a few months, it went out of the house maybe five times, two of those occasions someone tried to nick it. While subjective, it sounded just lovely...and I mean really lovely. Man if I could afford to take the guts out of a 4000 series and drop them into a Thunderbird I'd be in happyville.
I was thinking exactly the same the other day!! If only someone made after market pups that sound like a Ric then I feel a project coming along!
-
In about 2001 I was in the same kind of position as you...........now my Ric is my go to bass and even though I flirt with the others in my collection every now and again, the Ric gets most of my love. Anyway, what's driving this Ric obsession?? I would say this to you (most of which other peeps have already said =)) - Go play it first! They feel loads different to a J or P neck and are wider up and down the neck, but thinner front to back. There might be proper terms for this, but I hope you get what I mean. Personally I love the neck and struggle going back to anything thinner. - It's going to give you loads different tonally. They're a very distinctive sound that you don't really get in any other bass. A few can sound like they're imitating a Ric, but none sound like a Ric. For that reason a lot of people will say they don't like them and it'll also be the main reason why a lot of owners love them. Personally, I love the bright, aggressive, CLANK that my Ric gets. I can get close to it with other basses, but I can't nail it with other basses. - They tend to hold their value pretty well and I'm not sure what the price difference is between them new and used? I would normally say go 2nd hand as your budget tends to go further, but I'm not sure how much you'll be saving with a Ric. Can you afford a new one? If you can and you're not GASsing for anything else at the mo then get a new one. There's nothing quite like owning a bass and knowing exactly what caused all of the chips, dings and dents over its lifetime =) - Don't worry about looking like a a flash twat with no talent. You will look flash because Rics are IMO, the sexiest and best looking basses that have ever been made. However, as long as Adam Clayton is around then everyone is going to be looking at him and his plodding bass lines played on shiny basses - Oh and I'm with Skybone on the inlays and binding. Ditch the 'S'.
I so want to see high-resolution pics of the bass. Good luck for the 'right' email.
Just got my confirmation email! I'll be sure to take some pics, I have a PJ HTR decko in the post as well so as soon as everything is unboxed I'll get snapping. Gawd, this decko sale thing really isn't healthy for my relationship or GAS! -

Wicked! Thanks for the help guys, I've bookmarked the mobile page and set up a few apps in chrome so i get a nudge whenever there is a change to the webpage. Hopefully I'll get my mitts on a deko bass soon and the modding can begin! -
I love black basses and block inlays, I hate MMs....................apart from yours. Ace job. Stick some brass strings on it and it'll really shine!!

An Electrical Guitar Company EGC2000......
Looks good - but it might be a bit too much for a novice builder. (I'm making a huge presumption here - so please forgive me if I'm wrong, Jonesy.)
You know me well sir! I have trouble putting ikea furniture together and will most likely solder myself to any board I go near if left unattended. However, my bro is an electrical engineer and can solder in his sleep so my plan is to bribe him with rum so he teaches me what to do

Hey Colin, Thanks for the reply, I think I'll get the P90 and give it a go. Although I've just noticed the dirt dessert Prunes & Custard clone and that's mighty tempting..... Hey Guys I was thinking of having a go at making a phase pedal and thought this would be a good place to start I'm tempted by the P45 clone..... http://www.musikding...45er-Phaser-kit And was wondering if anyone had tried it, or could suggest any alternatives (maybe a P90 clone)? Thanks!

Just bought a pedal board off of Len and he's a top BC'er! Great comms and he met me outside my office in Soho. He's even just lent me his Ibanez phase pedal to have a go on. Bloody marvellous!!!!!
