If he's a good drummer and everyone gets on with him then I'd probably have him back. It kinda depends a bit around his initial decision to quit too. He's admitted he made a mistake, but was there any specific reason he left in the first place? If there was and it's still an issue (eg. Doesn't like the set, too many/not enough gigs, doesn't get on with everyone) then he'll likely end up leaving again unless something changes. Life's too short to be holding grudges though, so I wouldn't say no just because he left once. If you don't have him back, what are your other options? That's another one to think about.

You're not wrong, mine is a J neck too and it's lovely. Enjoy your new toy, it looks great and I'm sure it plays even better!

Lovely stuff, have to love a pink P bass - it looks great with the anodized guard too. Did you go with a chunkier 50s neck?

Is there a popular bass player, that you just don’t get?
Jonesy replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
I enjoy solo's and technical playing, I just tend not to enjoy them if that's all there is to a song. A lot of solo songs I just find boring, lacking melody and a bit pretentious - albeit I can listen in awe and appreciate the skill and talent that goes into composing and playing the piece. On the flip side, I completely agree about root notes too, there's a place for it every now and again, but it can be dull to listen to. Adam Clayton is a prime example of this for me. I've heard people say that his bass lines drive U2 songs, but they're just boring to me. -

It sounds like I'm the same as a lot of comments here. It's not that I don't get certain players it's more that I don't enjoy soloing virtuosic music, and that can be said for any instrument, not just bass. I'd rather listen to a song I like that has 7 notes played tastefully and contributes to the song, rather than a 4 minute solo piece that I just don't connect with. -
Looking at the darker side of humour and a bit of punk...... TSOL - Code blue, for a tune about necrophilia DI - Richard hung himself. Slayer also covered it, but I prefer this Angry Samoans - They saved Hitlers cock

The Reverend has loads of great tunes with funny lyrics, he's a great guitarist too. This is my fave.......

Witch's Egg from the film Forbidden Zone....has a great vid too Cool in the Pool - Holger Czukay (from Can) Bombay Duck - Rick Wakeman. Sounds like a clown soundtrack if the clown has done lots of acid

I like the Ernie Ball jacquard straps, they're extra long and come in some cool designs. The one on the Ric also goes on a sunburst jazz.

This is mostly me........I've got one bass that I have to use for one band I'm in because we play in drop C and then the others I rotate. I do have a couple of favourites for the other band, but try to rotate and give everything a bit of love. Although I have to admit that there's one bass I don't use much that I'm finding hard to sell at the mo. It's fun to play, but doesn't cut through so well with us having keys in the band. Every time I think about selling it, I pick it up and fall in love with it again. Then there's another that's hard to come by on these shores and I think if I sell it and want it back, it'd be hard to replace. That's what I tell myself to stop me selling them anyway 😂

Name a Genre an give me your top 3 tracks from it

Noise rock. This could be 3 Shellac tunes, but I'll try my best to suggest others..... Shellac - Song of the minerals Unsane - Sick Jesus Lizard - Then comes Dudley -
Here's a nice story...... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-68440336 TL:DR - a band records a single in the 80s, but it doesn't chart and they disband. Fast forward to 2022, a DJ picks it up in a 2nd hand shop. Plays it in clubs that specialise in 80s music in LA & Paris, a record exec hears it and the band have just been signed. Maybe a record company will find my old bands MySpace page in 30 years time and I'll embark on a world tour......

Ohhhhhhhhh, now that you mention it, I can't unsee it. Yours is loads better. You've ruined a perfectly good bass for me. My wallet is happy though 😃

That green is lovely and very tempting if it were a bit cheaper.....in a couple of years when they hit the 2nd hand market I'd like to get my mitts on one.

How many of us are in bands that have broken up?
Jonesy replied to Jonesy's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but are we still in them? How many have broken up without us knowing!??? -
Have to love Timmy C! https://www.google.com/amp/s/consequence.net/2024/02/tim-commerford-rage-against-the-machines-breakup/amp/

A mate walked past this and sent me a pic today...PMT London has now closed and it looks like it's not relocating. The website says to visit the Romford store. Have to admit that it's not too surprising. The store never looked that great and I always thought it was in a bit of a no mans land. Seems like they're condensing their store locations, hope they're come out the other side of whatever difficulties they're having.

Hmmmmmm, what would I buy if I could afford to spend £5k on a bass.......like others have said, probably something vintage. There's likely not many people here that are the target market for them though and I've no doubt they'll sell.

This is ultimately what put me off getting the pink case above for my pink Limelight. I'd love to have a matching case, but it does scream 'NICK ME!' On the other hand I really want a snakeskin case like this... I absolutely love it and am always tempted by it. As above, I don't want it to stand out, but that doesn't stop me thinking about it. I kinda hope people might think it' so tasteless that they might ignore it. But who could ignore that? In an ideal world the lining would be pink or leopard skin patterned too.

I've got tix for Electric Eel Shock in Camden next month, they're always great live so I'm looking forward to that one. Just bagged tix for Therapy? later in the year and have seen Pissed Jeans and Chat Pile are also touring. Happy days!

Thanks for everyone's replies on this, you're all very helpful!! Looking at what is in budget and semi/weighted with 88 keys, it looks to be slim pickings. I can't see much outside of that Recital Pro I mentioned and that looks to be a rare bargain. I'll see how I get on. There's a few reviews that may have put me off it slightly and I'm on the fence on a few features. I'm off on hols for a week but, if it's still there when I'm back, I'll go check it out.

Yeah, if you're replacing like for like in terms of resistance then the change would be pretty inaudible and pointless. Not sure why someone would do that unless there's an issue with the current guts though.
-
Ah, I didn't know that! When I was looking for a set about 10 years ago I thought I remembered seeing something about them being based on one of his old P basses - that was 10 years ago, mind!

Different value caps and pots have an impact on your tone for sure. If you went with one of his tone bypass looms then you'll hear a bigger impact again. Seeing as the signal from your pups passes through the guts of your guitar, I'd say looms can have a noticeable impact on how your guitar sounds. Whether that difference is audible to anyone but the guitar owner is another thing. As with all of this modding malarky - 'upgrade' is a subjective term. You'll definitely hear a difference and the more noticeable upgrade is probably having a more responsive sweep from your volume and tone pots.

Seeing that people give them away on FB etc, this was my first thought! However, space is the issue here and I wouldn't be able to get away with having one at home. Plus I wouldn't want to put everyone through the pain of hearing me butcher my way across the keys as I learn. A keyboard with headphone jack seems much more humane! I definitely want to learn piano over the organ, I was just thinking it could be fun to chuck in the odd deep purple tune for a bit of fun. I was thinking of learning some Chas n Dave, Jerry Lee etc. If, after 20 years of playing, I was an 8th as good as Henri Herbert I'd be very happy! So, the hunt is on for an 88 key keyboard and sustain pedal, preferably fully weighted and under £200. Has anyone got any ideas on what fits the bill? There a Alesis Recital Pro near me 2nd hand for £150 - which seems like a good deal, so I may well go and check that out.
