  1. true. George always said that had it not been for Andy, not only would there have not been Wham!, but there would also never have been George Michael. Even on the writing though, he co-wrote some of the really early stuff, and helped launch George as a solo artiste by co-writing Careless Whisper.
  2. Fidays's gig, a night of firsts. First time the pub had live music (the landlord had seen us twice before, once at a pub we played where he was on a jolly with other landlords/ladies, and then when he was doing holiday cover at another pub we played), first ever fretless gig for me, and first bass gig with no FX ! Basswise things went ok, but I'm not confident enough with my pitching to not look at the fretboard, which did affect backing vocals at times. Something to work on. It was a big pub, with 4 distinct areas, so not the easiest place to play, but we got the punters in and singing along, so result.
  3. but when that headline reads as 'you're a twonk', maybe not so good?
  4. no I don't. No home internet. I do have free channels on Sky.
  5. Whatever happened to Scuzzman?
  6. Thin J, flat D profile, works for me. But I have small hands.
  7. Another shout for the Snapdragon bass. Both Happy Jack and I have one.
  8. The music has received a bit of a slating, but I don't think it's too bad. Not that I'd go and see them, mind...
  9. Now just 4's with an extended fretboard for me. But when I was playing both, I found the B string on a 5 was the thumb-rest, but the top of the pup was the usual thumb-rest for a 4. Funnily enough I never had any problems playing a 6. Took right to it. But that may have been the bass, a rather tasty Shuker 6 with an amazingly thin flat neck.
  10. there are no other basses that have all the features of my custom Shukers, so yes it does matter for me. Does it matter for the punters? I think so, they may not know why 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' doesn't sound as good played on a normal 4 string - no drop D - but they will notice. Same as the metal solo's I needed a 2 octave neck for. The punters will hear the difference if they are played an octave lower.
  11. why thank you. The drop tuning via extended fret board is nothing new in the classical world, but the more modern design is influenced by Phil Kubicki. Putting a bend well next to just seemed an obvious use of the space.
  12. just information gathering at this point. Thanks for all the replies
  13. so make sure to have a knackered old case, preferably one with a 'Keep Music Live' sticker on it? 😎
  14. this was the first of these mashups that I saw. Posted on the Youtube 14 years ago 😲
  15. The late Tony Wilson, ... said he would never go and see jazz because he couldn’t tolerate the idea of the musicians having a better time than the audience.
  16. TBF they called after your audition to let you know. That's more than a lot of bands do. But as it wasn't actually an audition, then 😕
  17. yup. It's not really that custom, it's a series 2 body but fatter at the bottom.
  18. or rather Jon has it. But it's for my basses
  19. i have my own Shuker template
  20. so long as it's being advertised as a film, and not a documentary...
  21. or try the'Disaster Area' approach: Their songs are on the whole very simple and mostly follow the familiar theme of boy-being meets girl-being beneath silvery moon, which then explodes for no adequately explored reason.
