    At Friday's gig, my band played 'Sex on Fire' and 'Wonderwall' among others. It seemed the entire pub was dancing and singing along.

    Because probably more so than any other, Malmsteen is very much the guitarists guitarist. I would guess the majority of his audience are guitarists. So who is the market for this? How many bassists are going to buy a bass, because it's the sig model of a guitarist? Kind of in the same way as how many guitarists would buy a Jaco Pastorius signature model guitar? Bono and The Edge, are on the Fender board, so it must make sense somewhere

    The Cult, at the Hammersmith Odeon last Sunday. They were better than when I last saw them 5-6 years ago, but they were missing a second guitarist which came through on a number of songs, despite the keyboard player trying to cover.

    Halloween gig last night. Epic. At times it seemed the entire pub was dancing or singing along. I was f/x free for a change. No-one noticed 😒 We don't have any monitors, so it was the typical case of the sound on stage being different to FOH. I thought I sounded a bit trebly, but apparently out front it sat really well in the mix.

    I came to bass from classical guitar, pretty much transferring the technique wholesale as it were, so not lazy and not poor. For me, I don't have any problems digging in - although my preference is not to - and I don't think when playing the Foo Fighters, or AC/DC, or Thin Lizzy, my sound is too polite. You are of course welcome to judge for yourselves, and I would be delighted to see you tonight 😎

    Back in the day, at a talk given by a chap who had at one point been in Van Morrison's band, a story was told regarding the last day of the tour, when before the gig each member of the band took one of Van's harmonicas, and wiped it up the crack of their derriere, then replaced it back on the rack. Such was the regard in which he was held. A challenging man to work for/with.

    My custom Shuker's are built to my design/spec, as signature models they would have limited appeal.

    My naivety was such in years gone by, that I was shocked (and stunned) upon talking to a luthier, to discover that he had made the signature model guitar an artist played, and not the company whose logo was on the headstock. Apparently this is not uncommon.

    I would not have bothered with an instrument at all, and instead would have become a dancer. From Cher, through Madonna and J-Lo, to Kylie, Britney and Christina etc - and half of The Spice Girls, and Girls Aloud - they've all hooked up with their dancers. As a young, fit, straight male dancer I could probably have filled my boots...

    After Saturday's gig, during which I had stopped midsong to save the PA speaker going over after whizzed punter fell on to the speaker stand, the barman said "sorry about that whizzed up woman. Unfortunately she's a member of staff".

    A couple of gigs ago a punter wanted to high five me, while I was playing! 🙄
