How was your recording session last night/yesterday...?
MacDaddy replied to MacDaddy's topic in General Discussion
Yesterday I was in Ghost Town Sound studio in north London with The Royal Blues. We were in to do 3 songs, but just to get the bass and drums down. Vox and guitar were booked for another session. My plan was to use 2 basses to get a Nashville tic tac type sound, with one of my Shuker's and my Rob Allen Mouse. But as there was a bass in the studio and I was using public transport I just took the Mouse. The studio bass was a nice looking vintage Fender P, pics at the bottom. There was a bit of adjustment using a 34", as my basses are either mid or short scale, but the problem was an action you could drive a bus under, and that is not the angle of the pic, the string alignment is out. It sounded great, but perhaps not suitable for the tic tac, I'll see how much of my doubling ends up in the mix. The session did not start well. The drummer was having difficulty and it took 4 hours to get enough drums to be able to compile a full take. After a food break we did another song, which was recorded quite quick, then we went back to the first song and he nailed it. After that the last song was done in plenty of time. I DI'd in to the desk, and my bass parts were done after a couple of run throughs. Pub after. Good day 😁 btw I asked permission to post pics of the bass. It's what he used when he was in Echobelly. -
Following on from the How Was Your Gig/Rehearsal/Audition threads, it's about time we had a How Was Your Recording Session thread. Details to include: Pic and/or description of what you had for breakfast that day (because what's life without whimsy?). Name of band. Name of studio. Gear used. Tell us how it went.

The bands I'm in I found through JoinMyBand and one of the Facebook musicians groups.

Digitech BP355. Bass multi FX, but with guitar amp sims too.

At least you got the text. So many people think ghosting is the answer 😡

Was really gassing for this when I first saw/read about it. But after reading the reviews and seeing the demos (and the price) not so much now.

Kaiser Chiefs last night. Mini gig album promotion thing. There was another gig after, 2nd house type thing. They played about 10 songs, some new and some classics. Not bad for a bunch of blokes.

Not bad playing for a man.

Matching the strap to the bass?
MacDaddy replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
No. Black comfort strap for my basses with straplocks, and the widest strap available for those without. Although for rehearsals it's which strap scrunches up best to fit in the gig bag pocket. -

A similar thing happened to me once. En route to the gig and got the call it had been cancelled, so the band met up at another pub on the way. Where I had a chat with the landlord and booked 2 gigs there. So every cloud... 😆

Which companies are dead to you?

Panda Audio, because when I bought my Future Impact, I was unaware that to use it properly you have to buy more expensive gear. Apple. Just because I don't want to be locked in to their money grabbing incompatibility. The fruit market in a city up north, because over 40 years ago I bought a bag of oranges and half of them were off. Bob Dylan. For going electric.
