1. Check out what Line 6 have to offer. The Line 6 POD Studio GX is new for around £84 (usually around £50 second hand). Easy to use, Amp and Cab sims, plus Cubase LE. http://uk.line6.com/pod-studio/gx
2. 'Shoegaze' became a generic term for various UK (usually) 'indie' bands in the 80's, in which during a performance, the bassist and guitarist tended to stare at their fingers, and the vocalist tended to sing to his feet. Hence the term shoe-gaze. Alternative Rock, was coined in the USA, again in the 80's in various 'underground' rock scenes, as an umbrella term for bands who were an alternative to the prevailing popular rock music of the time, what is now referred to as Hair Metal. Cinematic Rock, haven't a Scooby, but Google is your friend: https://www.last.fm/tag/cinematic+rock/artists
3. Nikki Sixx Running around on stage throwing shapes and posing, showing that the the guitarist and vocalist don't have to be the only centers of attention, and just exuding the sheer joy of playing bass in a band.

6. it's not like Gibson are going out of their way to advertise or promote the new EB Bass. Although a couple of people are sat with it, it's not mentioned in the Gibson USA 2017 New Model Year video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1aIPdOdXdI

8.
I really dislike flats, but in my case it's because of the feel. I hate the smoothness, they feel almost slimy. Weird I know, but they make me want to wash my hands. I'm not happy unless I've got windings under my fingertips. Which is a shame, because flats can sound great.
this, again. for some of the playing I do - tapping - I need a bit of grip, otherwise it feels my fingers are just sliding off.
9. Listen with headphones, unless you have particularly good bass handling computer speakers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xISpofhD6k

11. I still haven't got round to putting on the new strings but I had a tweak with the locking tuners, and used it again at rehearsal yesterday. As mentioned earlier we are a metal band. Very metal, old school and tune to E flat. I needed to compensate slightly for the string floppiness by using a lighter touch, but it wasn't a major problem, and it sounds brutal. Plenty of bottom end, and a very usable tone control. We recorded a vid, I'll try post the audio. Just remember it was recorded direct through an iPhone.

18. For future reference, brand new bass strings £1.71 plus 99p postage. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Bass-Guitars-Gear/Generic-Gen-4722-Steel-Strings-String-Bass-Guitar/B00CTGOGPI/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1484316810&sr=1-3&keywords=bass+strings+4
19. Tokyo to London, not the easiest commute! The hook is spring loaded, there's a button underneath. Push the button and the hook raises, then pull the string to the side, release the button and the hook sinks into the fretboard and I have a lovely open D. Push the button to raise the hook, release it and it clamps the string behind the zero fret for E. The bendwells were done as I thought I might as well use the space, and most bendwell use is done with the G and D strings. Lighter strings work best for the bendwell, I have a balanced tension set, so slightly lighter G, which works great.
