1.
I have a P Bass Jr which is a similar scale length to the Snapdragon. It certainly has an inherent floppyness to the string tension, particularly if you are used to a standard 34" scale instrument. I guess that's the payoff for such a portable bass.
I'm actually used to 32inch medium scale :-)
2. It didn't make it to rehearsal, but I've tweaked away and sorted the alignment and neck. Not sure about the strings. A couple of them don't even have one complete wind around the tuning peg. I've not owned a short scale bass before, so I'm not sure if the string floppiness is normal?
3. A few details. The string alignment is not too good when the neck is extended, but this can be adjusted. Also the neck needs a bit of relief. Will give it a bit of a set up during the week.
4.
I'm seriously considering one of these, can you post any audio as the only demo I can find the player is playing over the neck. Would love to hear what it actually sounds like.
Unable to post audio, but I'm in that London too, so you're welcome to pop round and have a go.
5. Pics coming soon, but today was delivered my Snapdragon folding bass, and I gotta say 'I'm loving it!' :-) Spec here: http://www.snap-drag...-e-bass-4-p.asp I'm taking it to rehearsal on Saturday, so we'll see if it's good for metal
6. Because of the lighter body I was worried about neck dive, but Jon doesn't think that will be a problem. I asked if it would be ready before Christmas, and Jon said yes!
7. IIRC the buy-on for Skid Row, when they supported Bon Jovi on the New Jersey tour back in 1989, was $50,000.00. In that case it was financed by the record company and definately paid off.
8. And you could sign on during the holidays...
9. Latest from Jon: I hope you’re well! Not far off, as far as the string anchor, I’ve gone for the original design but slightly refined it so the ‘hook’ sits flush with the board and reduced the button size from the rear, this seems to be the least ‘obtrusive’ design. I’m going to be lacquering the rear of the neck, probably fri/mon before fitting the unit. I’ll send over some alignment option pictures for the volume knob, so it sits on the stripe, theres a bit of scope to move it around so i’ll send a couple for your approval.
10. I like them, As to why, is it true that more E string between the nut and tuning peg makes a difference?
11. Paul Geary always seems to have a great bass sound. Plenty of bottom end but always distinct.
12. Thing is, what is Fender? It's just a brand with the legal right to use the name, and ownership of the original trade-marked blueprints.
13. It seems to be legit, in that it is properly accredited, but when compared with 3 years intensive full time study, I'm not sure how it can compare
14. ambient, did he mention who awarded the degree?
15.
No updates for over a month??...come on, there are people here with OCD who need to know what's going on..
Bugger! Has it been a month already? The last email from Jon : Yes just trying a few options on the string clamp, well, trying to come up with something easy to use and unobtrusive. I have a similar idea to the kubicki, a little smaller, but its not quite playing ball at the moment, in terms of sitting squarely on the string. I’ll send a pic, Im trying to improve on the number one bass, although is that design standing the test of time?
16.
Have a look at my thoughts on Sentric Music in the second half of this post.
