2. I still haven't got round to putting on the new strings but I had a tweak with the locking tuners, and used it again at rehearsal yesterday. As mentioned earlier we are a metal band. Very metal, old school and tune to E flat. I needed to compensate slightly for the string floppiness by using a lighter touch, but it wasn't a major problem, and it sounds brutal. Plenty of bottom end, and a very usable tone control. We recorded a vid, I'll try post the audio. Just remember it was recorded direct through an iPhone.

 12. Tokyo to London, not the easiest commute! The hook is spring loaded, there's a button underneath. Push the button and the hook raises, then pull the string to the side, release the button and the hook sinks into the fretboard and I have a lovely open D. Push the button to raise the hook, release it and it clamps the string behind the zero fret for E. The bendwells were done as I thought I might as well use the space, and most bendwell use is done with the G and D strings. Lighter strings work best for the bendwell, I have a balanced tension set, so slightly lighter G, which works great.
 13. if cream is good enough for the Clash...
 14.
Thanks for the info - just one more question: so you push on the "bendwell" portion of the string, above the 0-fret? That's the bit I was not getting. Never seen one in real life, hence all the confusion. It's a bit of a miracle that given that there's a fair number of these instruments out there, I wasn't able to find a single video/YT-clip where someone would demonstrate how it works Thanks again for the explanation and I'll make sure to try one when I come across it
Both my custom Shuker's have bendwells Where are you based? If you are anywhere near that London you're welcome to have go

 16.
So, been eyeing up for a while the possibility of getting some guitar gear and an ABY pedal to split my bass signal into 2 channels - one for bass, one for an octave up guitar sound from the bass into a guitar amp. However, to make this sound decent, I am well aware I will probably need many effects and bits and pieces. If anyone has any pointers on decent ABYs, octave up pedals, guitar amps, and effects to get a rhythm guitar-like sound from the bass, I would love to hear. I know Royal Blood do something similar, so if anyone knows how to get a royal blood like tone *(maybe a bit cleaner and not at the expense all of Mike Kerrs gear comes at)* then I'd also like to hear it.
The bass guitar is a transposing instrument, which means the way music for it is written, is not how it actually sounds. It actually sounds an octave lower. The point being, an octave up, isn't necessarily in guitar territory.
 17. possibly if i'm not gigging. Could tie it in with a visit to family in Southampton.
