    i heard it on Absolute radio this morning, and that verse had been edited out!

    those lyrics were written down by Knopfler, almost verbatim from a conversation he overheard, as such he is singing in character. Changing the 'offensive' lyric, not only detracts from the ire towards the person being sung about, but also changes the person being sung about (80's American hair metal type). IMO of course

    I was surprised the YOB (year of birth) bass became a 'thing'. But anyone born in the 80's and 90's will probably find it cheaper than those born in the 50's and 60's
