1. "One letter is only the start of it..." Ok, maybe not.
2.
Never! It keeps things cool as well as hot, you know
How does it know?
3.
Really? I used to gig both an M500 and a V4B at around the same time in my 'career' (I use the term loosely), and I certainly wouldn't say the former did or could Ampeg the latter. In fact to my mind it's chalk and cheese, both are high quality, but neither can do what the other excels at.
Yup. M500 but through a 4x10. Rock bass heaven
4. My thanks too to all involved. Glad I attended, had a great day
5.
Any amp as long as it is all tube, don't believe what some people say about SS gear getting 'close enough'. Close enough if you're half deaf and don;t care about your sound yes, but not close enough for me. I have a B-15 and a V4-B. Neither are rated above 100w, both can humble most guitarists and most drummers, and both sound superb. The VT Bass might sound a bit like some of the Ampegs, but it doesn't feel like any of them. Exactly. I think
Voice of decent here. My old PJB M500 out-Ampeged Ampegs. Utter valve tone, not valve 'like' from MOSFETS. Not light though
6. Unless you bite them, nail clippers.
7. My bass playing is very much fx driven. I have finally settled on the Digitech BP355 and I cannot recommend it enough. The problem is creating awesome fx patches that work within a band context. At the moment we are a 3 piece, but my studio tones will be completely different to my live tones, due to the guitarist being able to over dub and multi track.
8. £48.00! How is this possible? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbt16sb.htm
9. He always treated his musicians well. They were all on retainer when the Last Orchestra wasn't working.
10. The Chicken. Nothing technically challenging about it, but it's all about nailing the groove and timing. Most Megadeth basslines, but I'll say Holy Wars. Again nothing too technical, it's just relentless!
11.
With a quarter of the U2 pot at his disposal he surely can't need the relatively small amount of cash these manufacturers can offer.
Edge and Bono are on the board at Fender, I'm sure they could have done him a deal?
12. So, fired up Live Lite 7, and one afternoon later, have successfully upgraded to the still free Live Lite 9. The problem this time, it kept disappearing, and tying to reinstall just gave the 'uninstall' option. It turned out that my Anti virus was quarantining it each time I loaded it, which meant it disappeared from the program folders. Anyway, I eventually sorted that and have downloaded one of their free drum packs, so I'm going to check out the tuition videos.
13. Seen them many times, with and without Capt or Rat. Last time was about 9 years ago when they headlined the Rock and Blues Custom rally - 30,000 crowd. Was gutted to miss their tour with Motorhead a few years ago.
14. I found a CD of Ableton Live Lite 7, which was bundled with my line 6 uxb. Will fire it up tomorrow and see how I get on. I've been faffing with MacWifey' s ipad and have been getting the gist of Garage band. So that's the level I'm working from.
15. Apart from outright Death Metal, Bootsy Collins has done it all. Bootsy roolz * * couldn't find an emoticon with star glasses.
16. Get every (paying) gig until your gig diary is full.
17. At the moment just my own demos. But I need to be able to create my own drum parts, coz drum loops never have what I want. I play guitar and bass, so my Digitech BP 355 can be used as an interface.
18. Yup tried it. Far too complicated for a numpty like me
19. Has anyone experience of Traverso, or Jokosher DAW's? They are both open source software and free.
20. Inspired by this thread, I thought I'd load up the copy of Cubase LE 5 which came with my Digitech pedal. One wasted afternoon later, bottom line is it can't be loaded because the included software to enter the product key is out of date, and can not be updated by a computer running XP.
21.
Pencil me in for coming along, we may have some friends staying that weekend. Not sure what I could bring along tho...Musicman Sabre ? Geddy Lee Jazz ?
I'd like to try the Geddy Lee. They always seem to get good write ups, don't think I've ever read a bad review.
22. Pink rules I've got a pink-burst Jay Jay French Epiphone Les Paul The Fender looks awesome, a real pink, not like salmon pink which is only pretending to be pink.
23. Super cheap option has MacDaddy written all over it! Do I actually need an interface, or will a Jack to USB cable do? I have powered monitors connected to the speaker out on my computer, most interfaces seem to want speakers connected to the interface?
