1.
Soul Music was the novel that got me into the whole Discworld series, really funny and lots of muso in jokes; recommended.
Reg, the small-God of club musicians
2.
Paul Chambers/Jimmy Cobb etc got £300-400 odd for Kind Of Blue, a multi million selling LP by THE Jazz artist of the day.
well $400 in 1959 equates to about $3,225.59 now. Not bad for 2 sessions. Especially as no-one had any idea they would end up as a multi miliion selling LP.
3. Best sound I ever had was from a late 70's 60w Traynor combo. Sadly it wasn't loud enough otherwise I would never have got rid.
4. Bargain price for a Japanese Charvel, especially with the Jackson pup. Can't say I'm not tempted, I would have loved to have this back in the day
5.
I know I'm posting late, but my favorite power duo right now is Graveltones: https://www.youtube....h?v=3MGXu0Fm1GA they have a huge sound, they have an amazing stage show, and they are a bit more dynamic I find than Royal Blood. RB's sound is insanely impressive though, and admittedly the Graveltones and a another good duo, Black Pistol Fire, sound thin to me after listening. Graveltones just write awesome songs, which trumps everything for me. I think they rely more on the composition of songs, knowing when to play and when not to play, and that makes them really pop for me.
Just been listening to them, to me they sound like a band missing a bass player.
6. I prefer them to ER20's, but as others have said the insert tool is a pain.
7. Lovely, particularly like the all in one pup cover/ramp/thumb rest. I'm glad you did what I never got around to doing!
8. Can't be doing with the earlier 'proggy' stuff, but the Hold Your Fire era does it for me. As it was one of their least successful albums, despite going gold, I realize I may be in a minority.
9. You could try not fighting it and turn it to your advantage. Let the vocalist take centre stage and get the 'backing band' to all wear matching jackets (or shirts)
10.
I have the dirt . Great book!! Good for metal( and makeup) have a bump
Ta. It doesn't quite have the full story though, which is why the other book is needed. Bump.
11. Yum
12.
Where are you and can you post? Thanks.
That London SW15. Could put it in a gig bag and post, but wouldn't be able to guarantee the condition it would arrive in.
13. Use it or lose it. I had a break from bands for about a year, then when I got back into it my 'ear' had gone. I did a thread about it at the time. What helps me, is transcribing. If not the notes then at least the structure.
14. I'm guessing they would sound good through an octaver? Anyone tried?
15. My Tech 2x12 sounds massive, and is not much bigger than a 1x12. How is this possible you cry? Details here in the for sale thread. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/223936-tech-soundsystems-2x12-cab/page__fromsearch__1
16.
As previously mentioned, I use 3 fingers, and it pretty well does stop you just 2
I came to bass from classical guitar, and am used to using all fingers, but can still play with 2.
17.
I would say if you naturally use 2 fingers, I am not sure what using 3 will give you.
If you can use 3 fingers, it doesn't stop you being able to use 2 fingers. Difference is, you are not limited to 2 fingers.
18. Billy Sheehan, in one of his vids, talks about how because the first and third fingers are similar in length, using them for peddling gives a more even sound.
19.
PM incoming.
Replied.
20. A USA made guitar amp for less than £50! Bump
21. Motley Crue' s infamous bio The Dirt. But if you want the full story you also need Lude Crued and Rude. Also included The Heroin Diaries. All books posted for £15·99 All books are in good condition, but do not look new. There is no spine creasing on either but The Dirt has a weird graze along the back cover which is difficult to capture in a pic. Will put pics up later.
22.
it's not the best website... but if you can track down Mike Walsh's number he's a pleasure to talk to on the phone.
And in person. When I lived nearer to the Bass Merchant he was my go-to-guy.
23.
aaahhh....Eddie Hazel.....he should be ranked with Jimi Hendrix in my book! check this bit of Eddie out... https://www.youtube....h?v=CcwEEu9yF7w
This. Eddie is criminally underrated.
