  1. Hair today gone tomorrow... Look after your backs folks, you only get one!
  2. A quick look at Sam Fox's discography on Wikipedia, shows she had 3 Gold albums in the USA, and featured in the Top 10 of their Hit Parade 3 times.
  3. There was a time that Jaco couldn't play harmonics. There was a time that Victor Wooten couldn't double thumb. There was a time Billy Sheehan couldn't tap. The point is we all go through a learning process. So don't think of yourself as an imposter, and just enjoy 😎
  4. Careful, if you read the small print on sugar free confectionary it says "excessive consumption may lead to laxative effects"
  5. Last night was the first rehearsal with the full line up, the rest of the full line up being the 3 backing singers. Sounding pretty good, gonna be fun when we start gigging 🙂
  6. For the guitarists very most probably. There is a difference between perfect tuning and well tempered tuning. Some guitarists really notice it on the F# on the high E string, and tune by ear. But by a digital tuner it would be out. IIRC it was an old jazz guitar trick, to tune slightly sharp (we're talking microtones here) as it made the solos stand out.
  7. Write the theme tune, sing the theme tune... Great bass line though.
  8. Great bass line though 😉
  9. Genius? No doubt extremely talented, but if we compare to an acknowledged musical genius such as Beethoven can we really call Partridge a genius?
  10. 4 strings for me, but with an extra 2 frets for a low D.
  11. When learning the rules for 4 part harmony, it was quite annoying to find out that Bach's 4 part harmonies break the rules all over the place 😡
  12. I shall try not to let it affect my day. I'm not promising anything mind. I'm not trying to prove anything, but it shows that musical theory can be directly applied in composition. Also that making vacuous statements like: is rather silly. Not least because if I know (for example) tapping a triad over a particular chord sequence will work, I know what it will sound like, but mainly because 'don't tell me what to do!'
  13. Only one way to test that. Bass solo kicks in 2:25. See what you think.
  14. In a covers band, what I play can be due to the band lineup.
  15. Sorry to tell you, but it was a good one! 😉
  16. Many years ago, I brought a song to the band. As we were going through it, the guitarist asked what happens next. As a joke I said "bass solo". Nobody laughed or said 'no', so I thought "bugger, I've got to do a bass solo". Probably 90% of what I came up with was performed on the spot due to my knowing a bit of music theory.
  17. It was a duo with Brahms. Traditional Cockney sing-alongs.
  18. My mate was stabbed in there 20 years later.
  19. When I was at college, I had a music teacher who was taught by Bela Bartok.
  20. I saw him in Every Good Boy Deserves Favour. He was playing an orchestra conductor, he had the moves right!
  21. Oh no it isn't!
  22. The football team Leeds United bought Lucas Radabe (and Phil Masinga) from. They're Leeds fans MOT!
  23. Do streams on all of the above count towards The Hit Parade?
  24. Yesterday I was in Ghost Town Sound studio in north London with The Royal Blues. We were in to do 3 songs, but just to get the bass and drums down. Vox and guitar were booked for another session. My plan was to use 2 basses to get a Nashville tic tac type sound, with one of my Shuker's and my Rob Allen Mouse. But as there was a bass in the studio and I was using public transport I just took the Mouse. The studio bass was a nice looking vintage Fender P, pics at the bottom. There was a bit of adjustment using a 34", as my basses are either mid or short scale, but the problem was an action you could drive a bus under, and that is not the angle of the pic, the string alignment is out. It sounded great, but perhaps not suitable for the tic tac, I'll see how much of my doubling ends up in the mix. The session did not start well. The drummer was having difficulty and it took 4 hours to get enough drums to be able to compile a full take. After a food break we did another song, which was recorded quite quick, then we went back to the first song and he nailed it. After that the last song was done in plenty of time. I DI'd in to the desk, and my bass parts were done after a couple of run throughs. Pub after. Good day 😁 btw I asked permission to post pics of the bass. It's what he used when he was in Echobelly.
