1. nothing embarrasing as such, but once at a gig I held aloft my bass in mighty rock pose, and was then covered in polysterene from the roof tiles in the low ceiling I had just put the bass through.
  2. well as my formative years were in the 80's and I dug that whole scene, Great White all the way for me
  3. 1st owned: Ibanez Blazer Bass - bought for about £50.00 in 1988. Good bass, amazing VFM, nice neck, light but with plenty of bottom end. Go to: Iceni Custom - awesome J type neck (my preference), active or passive, can cover most musical ground. My bass: Shuker custom - my design and spec. 'Nuff said!
  4.
If you bring your fiddle, it's going in a skip.
i'll send them over, you head them in
  5.
Let us know how you get on! I've dug mine out after reading this and going to try using it as a delay pedal until my Deluxe Memory Boy arrives. Also going to try out the 'Slow Gear' sim on one of our tunes, I've got one little part that's crying out for it. Rehearsal tonight, hopefully I'll get it set up nice and quick, don't want to be one of those guitarists who's always dicking about with his pedals!
I'm still fiddling about with the distortions, the metal setting seems to work okay for lead, but I haven't found a rhythm setting I'm happy with. I'm not after anything too heavy. Using the wah to take off the top end seems to work. I've a reheasal tonight with the combo so will have a fiddle.
  6.
I think your reply was taking the piss, if not I've got it wrong. My bad. I've read it again, and it sounds like you are sarcastically implying that no-one would be interested in trawling local music shops for someone else. If you were being serious, then i apologise, doesnt read that way though, to me anyway.
Yep, you got it wrong. But apology accepted.
  7.
errr, No, because i know someone who has a Squire Jazz bass, 5 years old, never played, with a Trace Elliott green carpet Boxer 65 combo, again untouched, and wants pennies for the set, so if this guy was local, it might work. Trying to help someone out, but as usual, not able to do that on BC without some sarcy comment from someone with no relevance to the thread. In future i will stick to responding to specific threads i'm interested in, and not waste time actually bothering to try and help people.who are new on here, and could maybe do with some advice, or a bargain pointing in their direction. Location is quite important when buying/selling gear, especially cheap gear, as the cost of shipping can often be more than the price of the gear. And yes, there are some friendly basschatters on here, although you probably havent experienced that, i wonder why?
what sarcy comment? A post suggested trawling the music shops, so if we know the location a nearby basschatter could be up for joining in. Entirely relevant to the thread. Not sure why you think I haven't experienced friendly basschatters?
  8. If it's too loud, you're too old. - Ted Nugent posted by the guy who has been using earplugs since age 18
  9. a few years ago the band I was in scored a couple of festival gigs in Europe. I decided to source a bass that could do the job, was light, had a j neck, and that I wouldn't be heartbroken over should Easyjet (it wasn't quite the big time) baggage handlers be a tad overzealous. £150.00 got me a rather nice active Bass Collection. Definately the best VFM bass I've had.
  10.
Whereabouts are you based??
this, because there's probably a friendly neighbourhood basschatter near you who wouldn't object to trawling the music shops with you.
  11. so far the majority vote love it. If I had it I'd do the Phil Lynott thing, where he had the light shinning directly on his chrome pickguard all the time
  12. MacDaddy

    Weight!!

the most comfortable strap I had was one of those stretchy ones. Trouble was as soon as you took a stap the bass would jump up and try break your jaw.
  13.
I've had several MIA Fenders since the 1980s and never had a factory fitted straplock on any of them.
me too, had to put my own strap locks on. Just seen eddies post, but I'm sure I've played Deluxe series that didn't the plot thickens...
  14.

that's the one not mine though...
  15.
it doesn't look like there's any amp modelling going on. What do you monitor it through?
a rather nice valve amp guitar combo Cheers topo, will give it a go.
  16. so as funds are lacking and I'm playing a bit of lead guitar, I'm using my Boss ME-50B. The chorus and delays work quite well, but I'm not quite there with the distortions yet. Any advice on which would work best and/or how to get the best out of a bass multi fx for guitar? I'm playing an active guitar which can be played passive. cheers.
  17.
The Grand website says' the 1 Nov gig has now been rescheduled for 4 April 2012
yeah, I've just seen the email from the ticket company.
  18.
I would love to see him live but not anywhere near London
Fortunately I can catch a bus which takes me all the way to the venue, and another from outside the venue that takes me all the way home
  19. One of the most influential bass players ever - and one who acheived commercial success - is playing in that London, his only UK gig, and only 3 replies?
  20. Larry Graham playing in that London in less than 3 weeks - 1st November - and no thread? Ably supported by Basschat's own Ray and his band The Fantastics! 21. i'll see what's in the diary, but as you're in my manor it'd shame not to. So probably see you there.
  22. i email AKAI about it, but they never replied. You'd think that even if they didn't want to make it again themselves they'd license the design to someone who would?
