1. Go on then, I'll play Hamer Blitz.
2. So just to clarify: Am I wrong in assumong he only takes one bass to a gig? And rather than pay the extra to take his one special bass in the cabin, he's happy to put it in the hold? Even though he is a professional bassist earning his living playing said bass?
3.
Having played that bass, its a standard laminate bass with a heavy coat of black lacquer so it should be able to do anything a 'normal' DB can do. That said, as a laminate its better suited to slap and pizz I guess than arco
i remember the Rockabilly revival back in the late 70's and always loved the guys spinning the DB's and jumping on them while playing like Geoff Kresge is doing in the pic at the bottom. Although they mention the solid build, they don't mention anything about accommodating the weight of jumping on them. If I had a sig DB that would be the first thing I'd mention
4.
I'd like one of these...... Not a 1940s bass for experienced people only
imagine seeing one of those in a traditional orchestra Can they be bowed or are they designed for slap?

A splendid chap I'm sure, but not to be confused with I
6. i used to own the PJB dalek. M500 head, 8T and 16B cabs. In a word - yes. Sound quality is amazing and the tonal options from the head are almost infinite. I only let the rig go because it wouldn't fit in my new car
7. I'm with Homer on this one. The lack of effort made with the packaging and lead is inexcusable, it just shows the shop don't give a rats.
8. I'm trying to get a decent synth bass sound from my ME50-B. The kind of instant attack sound Quincy Jones would use, I don't want squelsh or boing. I've tried the synth bass settings and have fiddled with modulation effects and compression but I'm still not getting there. Any advice? ta.
9. Nikki Sixx Bootsy Collins Larry Graham Billy Sheehan Mark Mendoza with an honourable mention to Quincy Jones, not for his bass playing but for his basslines.
10. it's the recession, everyone is downsizing.

B-E-A-D

used BEAD with my passive MM Sub. No problems at all. Had to file the nut to fit the low B and that was it. Sounded great too.
12. will be following this one
13. Rather than hide it, why not make a feature out of it? Put some kind of cover on top and make a bass amp coffee table kind of thing
14. started off on classical guitar, and was quite good on electric in an 80's widdler sort of way. Trouble was by the time I could do the 80's widdling it was the 90's and no-one was interested in that sort of thing. It's not much fun been in a band where the guitarist(s) is not good enough to play the guitar parts you write.
15.
No, you just need to go back a few pages to post #101 and post #112!
doh! had seen the vid but missed the piccy link. ta.
16. i was put on to Bassworld by Mike at Iceni. Seems a long time ago now. I remember the first Bash I attended was the second one. Sadly some great people have fallen by the wayside since then...
17.
This thread was inspired partly bu the gig I attended last night and also by the recent thread on Bauhaus who I saw four times in the early 80s and only once did they come back on stage to do an encore and that was only after a good 5 minutes of clapping and cheering from the audience. That to me is how encore should be done.
i saw Bahaus at the Brixton gig when they first reformed. IIRC they did 3 encores. And marvellous they were too.
18.
Played a blinder HJ. Great atmosphere. You're perfect for this venue.
+1 good gig, good beer. Finally made it to the pub despite TFL trying to thwart us at every stage. Nice to have a natter with Low End Bee too.
19. http://www.proloops.com/ don't be fooled by the prices in $'s they are an English company.
20.
I've read the Fender version of that story but also that McCartney thought Fenders were for 'proper' bass players and, being left-handed, the symmetrical Hofner would look more natural anyway. McCartney bought his first Hofner in 1961 in Germany when the Gibson EB1 had been discontinued since 1958 (or thereabouts); so it would seem unlikely that he had an immediate choice between buying the Hofner or the Gibson.
i don't think it so unlikely that a bass in 1961 costing how ever many months wages, could languish in a shop for 2-3 years?
21. when I had a sub I used it in an old school heavy metal band. It did the job fine. The only problem for me was the lack of contouring on the body so it was a bit uncomfortable as it used to dig in to my arm.
22. was in the Bass Cellar on Friday. There semed to be a lot more space and the staff appeared to all be friendly and helpful. Maybe things are changing at last.
23. i've changed the song, again it was using the resources available - so male vocalist this time. This is the last one I'm putting up so I'll leave you all alone soon @ alim, the guitar solo is just as grating
24. Nikki Sixx. Not the best bassist in the world, probably not the best bassist in Motley Crue. But he runs around, throws shapes and poses, and knows how to entertain. That's why he made me want to play bass.
