1. if you are anywhere near that London and are going to the London Bassbash, I'll take mine and you can have a fiddle.
2. As general rule - 1 finger per fret. that has the first 4 frets covered. If your little finger is on the 4th fret, you should be able to move your hand so your index finger is on the 5 fret without looking, then you have postions 5, 6, 7, and 8 covered. Adjust for what key or position you start on. I tend to find looking at the fretboard gets in the way of throwing shapes and posing
3. SORTED. Thread can be deleted or left to die...
4. I may be able to go, the wedding is on the 23rd! Wise words from the man himself on Rockschool.
5. April 25th. Bu993r! How can I get out of going to MacWifey's best friends wedding?
6.
Stop this tuna madness - surely everyone must agree that tuna tastes like catfood
you can tune a bass but you can't tuna fish.
7. it would be worth it just to p155 off any guitarists
8.
Just as a '64 Jazz bass, for example, is a vintage bass, the sound it makes is also vintage.
but it wasn't a vintage bass in the 60's and the sound a '64 Jazz made in '64 would be different to the sound it makes over 50 years later. The players using basses in the 60's were not using vintage instruments, therefore could not have had a vintage tone. The concept didn't exist.
9. what I don't get is when people talk about players having a vintage tone. At the time they were not using vintage instruments.
10. Pics from the Chiswick Bassbashette starring Happy Jack Low End Bee and co-starring MacDaddy, thunderbird13, Happy Jack, silddx, Low End Bee, & Jerry_B
11. I have 2 Samson Resolve 65a monitor's and the right one has stopped working. It was fine yesterday but this morning the blue light isn't coming on and there is no sound. I've tried different leads and plug sockets, so know it's not that. They are out of warranty, so I'm gonna take the back off and see if I can spot an obvious loose wire or something, otherwise any suggestions? ta.
12. I would have killed for this back in the late 80's  still a quality bass though, I don't think you will have it for much longer.
13.
+1000. Without him I wouldn't be here!
he's your Dad?
14.
you beat me to it. i'm trying to 'learn' perfect pitch at the moment. some people say it can't be done, others disagree. i have a friend with synaesthesia. he sees shapes when tasting. he makes wonderful beer.
when I was at college many years ago, I remember reading about a course designed to help you develop perfect pitch. They used colours, I remember F# was green.
15.
And how are we going to recognise each other? Rush the stage at the end or something?
we all wear a white carnation and carry a copy of the Times
16. still no reply, but I'm not gonna let it drop.
17. Playing Devils advocate here, all I am seeing is maddude16 not giving Hamster satifactory answers or replies. Can I please ask that if this is a scam, then can one of the mods can explicitly state/post 'this is a scam'. The hate and vitriol on this thread is not going to acheive anything positive. ta.
18.
If the PA is being used it'll just be for the bass drum and vocals.
has been my experience too.
19. if the family have requested privacy it may not show up in the mainstream media? If it is a scam it seems a bit elaborate just to fleece £3 each off a bunch of Basschaters? Unless there is more to it? However conjecture is not good, and +1 to waiting for the facts.
20.
just read on www.megadeth.com , james loMenzo is gone and Dave is back . what happened
Someone needs to go to Japan now and kidnap Marty Friedman.
As for Mr. Lomenzo, did I see him at a White Lion gig at the Old Marquee back in the '80s?
yes.
21. Still no reply so have sent them this: Dear Sir/Madam on February 2nd 2010 I sent this question: The Deep Impact synth bass pedal is still sought after and prices on ebay are usually always over £300.00 so there is obviously a market for it. Why won't Akai make it again? I have still not had a reply even though your typical response time is 24-72 hours. if I get any joy I'll keep you posted.
22.
looking for a wah wah pedal, for some parts in my band where we all think it will sound cool. i am moving on a vintage wah i have as it just doesnt really wah all that much and cuts the tone as its a guitar wah! just looking for a wah, maybe with a slight volume boost? i know that the 105q has this as i had one a while back but before i just go and buy another are there any others i could look into? andy
A Bassballs could possibly do the job you want, but a decent chorus pedal can also give you a wah type sound. I used to use a Boss chorus for the intro to Fly Away by Lenny Krevice.
23.
Agree with your last comment Chris. I enjoyed it. There are quite a few members here who are contemporarys of Roger and Pete and, in some cases, older. According to most of you who posted criticism it seems that anyone in their later years of life should pack up gigging. In your dreams sunshine. Long may they continue, I know I shall. As for bands without all their original members how about The Rolling Stones, Bad Company, The Yardbird, and Doctor Feelgood have none of the originals.
I think the criticism has been of the performance rather than the age. The singer in my favourite band is 55 yet still puts in a hyper dynamic performance at every gig.
When Townshend hits that guitar after nearly 50 years of playing and his fingernails fly off - it means he has passion and belief and that he gives everything to the audience and to his performance
or it means he needs to refine his guitar technique (or up the sanatogen!)
24. I had a Traynor 60w valve bass combo. It was quite old and heavy and had limited tonal options but it made a beautiful sound, lots of bottom end without sounding muffled - I used it with a USA Jazz. Loved it but it wasn't loud enough to gig with.
