Just as a '64 Jazz bass, for example, is a vintage bass, the sound it makes is also vintage.
but it wasn't a vintage bass in the 60's and the sound a '64 Jazz made in '64 would be different to the sound it makes over 50 years later. The players using basses in the 60's were not using vintage instruments, therefore could not have had a vintage tone. The concept didn't exist.

what I don't get is when people talk about players having a vintage tone. At the time they were not using vintage instruments.

I have 2 Samson Resolve 65a monitor's and the right one has stopped working. It was fine yesterday but this morning the blue light isn't coming on and there is no sound. I've tried different leads and plug sockets, so know it's not that. They are out of warranty, so I'm gonna take the back off and see if I can spot an obvious loose wire or something, otherwise any suggestions? ta.

They used colours, I remember F# was green.

Playing Devils advocate here, all I am seeing is maddude16 not giving Hamster satifactory answers or replies. Can I please ask that if this is a scam, then can one of the mods can explicitly state/post 'this is a scam'. The hate and vitriol on this thread is not going to acheive anything positive. ta.

if the family have requested privacy it may not show up in the mainstream media? If it is a scam it seems a bit elaborate just to fleece £3 each off a bunch of Basschaters? Unless there is more to it? However conjecture is not good, and +1 to waiting for the facts.

Still no reply so have sent them this: Dear Sir/Madam on February 2nd 2010 I sent this question: The Deep Impact synth bass pedal is still sought after and prices on ebay are usually always over £300.00 so there is obviously a market for it. Why won't Akai make it again? I have still not had a reply even though your typical response time is 24-72 hours. if I get any joy I'll keep you posted.
looking for a wah wah pedal, for some parts in my band where we all think it will sound cool. i am moving on a vintage wah i have as it just doesnt really wah all that much and cuts the tone as its a guitar wah! just looking for a wah, maybe with a slight volume boost? i know that the 105q has this as i had one a while back but before i just go and buy another are there any others i could look into? andy
A Bassballs could possibly do the job you want, but a decent chorus pedal can also give you a wah type sound. I used to use a Boss chorus for the intro to Fly Away by Lenny Krevice. -
Agree with your last comment Chris. I enjoyed it. There are quite a few members here who are contemporarys of Roger and Pete and, in some cases, older. According to most of you who posted criticism it seems that anyone in their later years of life should pack up gigging. In your dreams sunshine. Long may they continue, I know I shall. As for bands without all their original members how about The Rolling Stones, Bad Company, The Yardbird, and Doctor Feelgood have none of the originals.
I think the criticism has been of the performance rather than the age. The singer in my favourite band is 55 yet still puts in a hyper dynamic performance at every gig.
When Townshend hits that guitar after nearly 50 years of playing and his fingernails fly off - it means he has passion and belief and that he gives everything to the audience and to his performance
or it means he needs to refine his guitar technique (or up the sanatogen!)

I had a Traynor 60w valve bass combo. It was quite old and heavy and had limited tonal options but it made a beautiful sound, lots of bottom end without sounding muffled - I used it with a USA Jazz. Loved it but it wasn't loud enough to gig with.

"Core Tone" isn't very important in your bass.
MacDaddy replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
You can, of course, have too much tone..or too many options. All my basses are active although 2 can be played passive. The passive tone is lacking to a degree but very usable with my amp flat. The pre's have a lot of scope, and the para EQ on the amp is pretty flexiable as well, but this could get confusing if I messed with both I could spend hours going round and round in circles trying to make sense of that lot.. so I get 3 core sounds from the basses to reflect playing styles and the woods do contribute here, but the goal is simplicity and quickness to achieve... I EQ the basses off the pre amps and don't touch the amp..bar the volume If I need to go passive, then I start from a position that makes more sense to boast or cut what I might need....but with passives, it is mostly a boast I have never been happier with the sounds since I stopped messing with the amp.. but.....when tweaking and exploring you need to make little subtle changes, IMV, and not big sweeping knob twiddling
thing is, I'm the opposite, I have never been happier since I stopped messing with the bass, hence 1 pup and no tone control. We all may take different paths but so long as they lead us to the right destination. Or at least take us where we want to go. -
I'm sorry Nig but you are being utterly deluded in this instance, everyone knows that pineapple on a pizza is plain wrong.
+1 fruit has no business being on a pizza. and before anyone says tomato is a fruit, I'm with the U.S. Supreme Court who on May 10, 1893 declared that the tomato is a vegetable, based on the popular definition that classifies vegetables by use, that they are generally served with dinner and not dessert (Nix v. Hedden (149 U.S. 304)) -
so aslong as YOU are happy with YOUR TONE and YOUR bass, thats all that matters!
thinking about it, I haven't liked my tone in my last 2 bands. Thing is it worked in the band context, and sounded great with the guitars, but bass on it's own I didn't like. -

disagree with Siddix that the future is digital - it doesn't have to be, but with him on the tone thing. I designed my custom Shuker for simplicity. 1 pup and no tone controls. The pup has been extra wound and is hum cancelling so it pushes out a sound I can do what I want with. Everything else was designed for posing though
