I dont like my band - standard rant number 202
MacDaddy replied to thunderbird13's topic in General Discussion
Given this is a Hawkwind tribute, you should stay 'in character'. Depart in the manner favoured by their erstwhile bass player, Mr Lemmy Kilmister. Arrive home from jail in the States, go round and shag all their wives.
+1 -
Cheers, mine will be resting over the handbrake for some time yet then!

If playability and portability were the main factors I'd have one immediately! I'm considering one as soon as I can afford one.
http://www.dv247.com/guitars/stagg-edb-3-4...ent-blue--49966 have any of these type of electrics been used in orchestral settings?
Are they expensive?
The price of this bass with hard case is $3599 plus shipping.
that looks like a great piece of work. would the constant loading/unloading of tension on the strings kill them quicker?
DB strings tend to last years. Many years. So even if if it does knock 2 years of a lifetime of 10 years it's still not too bad.

As the title says. I've sent this to the Akai Ask A Question. The Deep Impact synth bass pedal is still sought after and prices on ebay are usually always over £300.00 so there is obviously a market for it. Why won't Akai make it again? I'll post the reply.
Thanks MacD, I do have the booklet but the sample settings are all heavy metal-ish settings (Twiggy Ramirez, Trujillo in Ozzy's band, Rex Brown in Pantera) so I figured these would be a bit too in-your-face for what I am after
yeah see what you mean. I tend to use the Rex one as a base, then adjust accordingly.

do you have the booklet with it? It gives sample settings for a few players. If you don't have it pm me an email an I'll scan it and send you it.
Very often Stewart Lee is a prize twat, and I'd rather eat my own liver than watch his TV show, but christ he was bang on the money with that quote. Yes, PC does go mad sometimes, but only at its extremes. The likes of the Daily Mail would have you believe that everything about PC is wrong and evil and designed to turn the so-called white middle classes into oppressed minorities. Utter bollocks. At heart, it is a good thing... it's just that some people don't know when to stop. I'm old enough to remember when the Race Relations Act was first discussed and then introduced in the mid 70s. Incredibly, it was coloquially referred to at the time as the 'N*ggers W*gs and C**ns act' -- such were national attitudes then, even within certain sections of the media. Imagine if absolutely no forms of PC existed, no anti-prejudice legislation or race relations legislation, nothing. Imagine that? the BNP can.
if it's black, and it's a board, who am I offending by calling it a blackboard? Especially as if it's white and it's a board I'm allowed to call it a whiteboard. (I've read this is urban myth, well it happened at my school in the 80's!) I disagree he was bang on with that quote, I think he is been divisive. The issue of blame however lies with the decision makers who took something that was good and needed, and turned it in something to exploit for political gain.

Guns n Roses - Don't Cry. Terrible bit of fret buzz 5sec. it's really noticeable on Spotify and original recordings, but not so noticeable when compressed on Youtube etc.
Just to make it easier .. It really worries me that 84% of this audience agrees with that statement, because the kind of people that say "political correctness gone mad" are usually using that phrase as a kind of cover action to attack minorities or people that they disagree with. I'm of an age that I can see what a difference political correctness has made. When I was four years old, my grandfather drove me around Birmingham, where the Tories had just fought an election campaign saying, "if you want a n****** for a neighbour, vote Labour," and he drove me around saying, "this is where all the niggers and the coons and the jungle bunnies live." And I remember being at school in the early 80s and my teacher, when he read the register, instead of saying the name of the one asian boy in the class, he would say, "is the black spot in," right? And all these things have gradually been eroded by political correctness, which seems to me to be about an institutionalised politeness at its worst. And if there is some fallout from this, which means that someone in an office might get in trouble one day for saying something that someone was a bit unsure about because they couldn't decide whether it was sexist or homophobic or racist, it's a small price to pay for the massive benefits and improvements in the quality of life for millions of people that political correctness has made. It's a complete lie that allows the right, which basically controls media now, and international politics, to make people on the left who are concerned about the way people are represented look like killjoys. And I'm sick, I'm really sick-- 84% of you in this room that have agreed with this phrase, you're like those people who turn around and go, "you know who the most oppressed minorities in Britain are? White, middle-class men." You're a bunch of idiots.
or maybe they are just the kind of people - to take Birmingham as an example again - who wonder why at the university during the world cup, the English students had to take their flags down, but the foreign students didn't have to. Or why the CAMRA beer festival in Birmingham is not allowed to have directions to it's location. Some things in life are obviously wrong and unfair, but Stewart Lee is an idiot if he thinks political correctness hasn't caused problems, problems which certain political parties are happy to exploit. BTW I'm sure the BBC has always been accused of a left wing bias?

Gary are you taking requests? Not from the make up era, but it would be nice to hear Lick it Up and Heavens on Fire at the London gig .
Personally I see Off Topic as a group of friend in a family pub because it is open to all ages, now a bit of football, advice, politics (friendly) or miscellaneous chat is all good but if you were in a pub with your family and friends and someone turned around and said "you know who I'd like to f*** ?" it would be deemed unacceptable,.
I was with a group of friends in a family pub and a bloke said that to me. He then said 'your Mum!'. I said 'Dad you're drunk go home'.

I find it interesting that the disparaging opinions towards to the MILF thread were not also directed towards the FILF thread. Sexist that is.

Badgerific has a BC Rich pointy bass in the for sale threads, quite cheap too, that would be ideal.

Carvin Basses - Why Have They Never 'Made It' Over Here?
MacDaddy replied to merello's topic in Bass Guitars
Fashion possibly, also I'm not sure how good their distribution has been in the UK. I had a 5 string Carvin, quality bass, well built and could cover most requirements tonally. I only got rid because I needed the money and was going back to 4's.
