I really don't care if you want to consider it advertising, an article or a description of one man's experience - it was fascinating to read and thank you very much for posting it Kiwi. If you ever get invited to some other workshops, make sure you post some info on them too.
+1
  2. innocent until proven guilty. Come on, give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
  3.
An old Jazz (in showroom condition) with a supposed history going for £2100 He had bought all the parts in the last month or so, all clearly visible in his feedback I sent him a message explaining how hilarious it was!
speechless
  4. Another shout for the for sale section here. Go on have a browse with no obligation to buy, but wipe your feet first .
  5. I missed it. What was it?
  6.
Yes, John needs to come and close this one down, too. Perhaps we ought to have a Victor Wooten Appreciation Thread pinned, only for people who actually appreciate him?
Fair enough, but I think peoples opinions on why they dislike, are just as valid so long as they don't deteriorate in to a slanging match. Contrary views are needed, The Home of Deep Discussion, and all that.
  7.
This is all getting out of hand again. If it helps to diffuse things., I think the baby Jesus, bunny rabbits and puppies are very nice.
so you hate the adult Jesus?
  8.
So do we.
We do too.

  10. 5 month build time for a fully custom handbuilt bass Go Mike! He IS da man
  11.
When I sang in a cathedral choir, a long time ago, I came across a breve. I threw it back in.
12.
Still makes sense there. There are six 'eighth' notes in the bar.
yes, but what are they an eighth of? An eighth of the bar? An eighth of the beat? Calling them eighth's is redundant, they are only eighth notes in 4/4.
there's only 6 names in common usage for gods sake Semibreve, minim, crotchet, quaver, semiquaver and demisemiquaver corresponding to whole, half, quarter, 8th, 16th and 32nd notes respectively. you may come across a Breve in 16th century choral music, and the occasional hemidemisemiquaver (or worse) where the composer can't be bothered to rethink the tempo / time sig. If you want to really be pedantic there's only four names - Breve, minim, crotchet and quaver, with semi, demi and hemi prefixes to denote subdivisions. It's hardly a feat to remember them all. remembering the names of the notes of the chromatic scale takes 3 times as much memory I recon it depends on what you are used to, I hate having to mentally convert from 'metric' names to real names when on the composing fora that I frequent, but the americans always whine when I don't convert back, so horses for courses and all that.
+1
  13. not bad I suppose nah, just joking mate, quite awesome, and also quite inspiring Like your bands too, especially New Device.
  14. I've played through a few VBA's and always thought the tone to be a bit woolly. I saw a guy gigging with a stack, looks of valves lit up in the head (can't remember which model), only 300w and sounded awesome.
  15.
Nice Carvin B4 HERE frankly, I could see this going for 5 or 6 hundred bucks at the end of the day.
looks like one of the Carvin DIY jobs. IIRC they were like IKEA furniture, came flat packed and you assembled them yourself. They were meant to be pretty good.
  16.
Been so long that I reckon that Mrs WH may well have bricked her garage door up!
tea ---> screen!
  17.
in your opinion.... for some people a car is exactly that - for getting from a to b, for others it's a willy waving exercise,
So is the type of garage a woman has, some kind of vajajay waving exercise?

    Guild B302

Used to have a black vintage Guild B-301. Looked and sounded great. Sweetest set up I've had on a bass, the action went soooo low. Neck like a Warwick though

    Wham
Did you twig about ridgley being the stooge?
Unfair and wrong. If it hadn't been for Ridgely, not only would there not have been Wham!, but there wouldn't have been George Michael either. He co-wrote some of the early stuff, and was responsible for launching Georges solo career by asking George if he could do something with some music he had written. That song became Careless Whisper.
  20. At the moment I have a Shuker on order (within the next 4 weeks hopefully!) and an Iceni Zoot. These are high end custom basses, but I find myself gassing for a Dean Zone bass (pink), Dean Metalman Z, and Squire Classic vibe P - basses below and above the £200 mark. Maybe it's a case of, if you have steak at home everyday sooner or later you're gonna want a big greasy burger?

    Wham

Never liked Wham! at the time (remember the exclamation mark) but think they are quite awesome now. Edge of Heaven is my fave bass line, but so many are good.
  22.
A couple of weeks ago I had put some DR blue coated strings on it.. most bassplayers really didn't like the look. I thought it looked kinda cool...:-)
I'm the only person on Basschat who doesn't like Wals, but that looks sweeeet!
  23. It's an old argument, one where effects pedals are called talent boosters. Well let's see you get a nice chorused sound with a touch of delay from your fingers, is what I used to say. Anyway compression rules! Nice big phat bass mmmm...
  24. I got some studio monitors from them. The packaging looked a bit grotty but they work fine. Could have returned them, guy on the phone was very helpful, but no need. The only problem was, they were delivered when I wasn't in, so I had to pick them up from the delivery depot, which was 10 miles away. They still work fine, and were a great price.
  25. yep, they are soon on tour. I think the original soundtrack album was re-recorded at some point too.
