1.
If memory serves, it's just over 1cm deep. The string tension is pretty high at that end anyway, so you don't end up bending that far.
thanks. The bendwell on my Shuker is going to be 8mm. Do you think that will be enough?
 2. Hi any Status King bass owners out there, who have the bendwell? How deep is it? ta McD
 3.
...Huh? I've absolutely no idea what you're talking about as I haven't mentioned anything about Britain or any other nation here. Unless the thing about 'starting fires' is a Springsteen quote...or something?
I think he's just saying the best basses are made on these shores. It's a compliment
 4.
Just a few questions about the LEDs? What the hell is a pulse function?

Basically, it'll make his bass look like a boy racer . Nah, it means they flash on and off fast, and he's making it so it'll progress up the fretboard.
yep, what M4L666 said
How does Jon mount the LEDs? Does he insert them prior to the fingerboard being glued? I'm in two minds about the brass surrounds on the fingerboard. I'm looking forward to seeing them in context on the completed guitar.
not actually sure about that I can ask him?
Anyway, I'm liking this build thread. I'm watching in anticipation. This is what custom is all about! Nice stuff.
cheers
 5.
Well, didn't have any great weather to get those pictures done I'm afraid... I'll get them up as soon as I have a free moment and the sun peeps out.
make sure you take some of the contours, especially the edge - where I am reliably informed the flip paint has come out really well!
 6. my custom build is due to what I want not being out there. So a monkey grip, bendwell, extra frets for drop D tuning, pulsating pink LED's, and an all in one ramp/pup cover/thumb rest, all on one bass. Conservative? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=9022
 7. I play in an old school heavy metal band, so I like the old classic tone, bottomy but punchy through the low mids. For me using the 2x12's makes all the difference.
 8.
Have to ask the "usual questions" first ....
no worries
What kind of bass is it ?
Iceni Zoot. But, the neck has in the past had a new fret board (nice job, according to Mike Walsh of Iceni) and has had LED's removed. Both of these were before my time.
If you want to add releif (to make the neck bow slightly) then you need to loosen the truss rod. Are you saying that the nut is very loose and yet there is still no relief ?
before rehearsal earlier I gave a quarter turn to loosen - no effect. I gave probably 2 full turns before giving up. The truss rod is quite loose - it moves side to side - but doesn't turn without the key.
Have you left the bass overnight to allow it to settle after adjusting the rod ? Sometimes when adding relief it's necessary to apply a little pressure (carefully) to the neck. This would be done by holding the neck at the body join then pushing the top of the neck a couple of times - firmly, but not forcefully - just to loosen anything that was stuck.
haven't left it overnight, but I did try putting pressure on the neck - not the way you suggest though, I'll go do that now. ok done it, still no joy.
 9.
Yes. Now get your pics up!
ok then Tech Soundsystems 600w combo 2x10 on top, 2x12 underneath. Sub included in picture for scale purposes. Combo formerly belonged to Squarepusher, both have neo's and have been 'tweaked' by Mike Walsh of Icen and Zoot, when he owned the Bass Merchant.
 10. There is no relief in my neck and adjusting the truss rod isn't having any effect. I'm guessing this is gonna end up costing? Any advice? cheers McD.
 11. Just to confirm before I post mine - Tech Soundsystems is now TecAmps
 12.
Apart from the ones that have orange LEDs
or pink LED's!
 13.
The biggest to553r in the world. We occasionally play the "talk like a top gear presenter" game at home where you have to have that gap before the end of every sentence..
what about the 'dress like a top gear presenter'? A suit jacket worn with jeans and trainers.
 14.
it's all about the frequencies that will cut through -- guitarists tend to get rid of their upper mids, hence leaving them for you see if you can get them to roll off the bass control on their amps a LOT -- it won't sound so great on its own but in the band suddenly everything will be much clearer
you seem to be suggesting that I ask 2 guitar players to turn their controls in a direction that isn't up? I don't think they are aware of the concept!
 15. Good thread. I was going to post something similar, about why is it, when I have a great bass sound (lovely and fat and with plenty of bottom end without being muffled) it doesn't work with the band? (2 guitar line up old school metal). The sound that does work, sounds horrible on it's own, all toppy and upper middy, but when the band are playing it works
 16. Wireless all the way. Only use cables (obbm) for rehearsal and studio. Hate using cables live, can't go back I use Audio Technica. But which ever brand you choose make sure you get a UHF and not a VHF.
 17.
Just bought a jazz but it actually has a precision pickup as well!
that's what I'd vote for. Jazz but with the P pup.
 18. I hate the way the Yanks do it, 8th notes, quarter notes etc... I've seen it creeping into some guitar mags here, especially in the notes to tabbed transcriptions.
 19.
Thanks - link now corrected - yes 99p is cheap as chips!
what chip shops do you go to? 99p is cheaper than the ones I know!
 20.
I'll come, as long as you do this one
ROFL!
 21. What's your opinion of the recess on the back of the neck, which is meant to make access easier to the higher frets? BTW Good review
 22. I ordered some speakers from them a couple of years ago. The boxes were in a right state, fortunately the speakers were unblemished.
 23.
I reckon you've played half the basses on BC Rich
Half of all BC Rich basses Does Lorne know? Lovely Esh, if I could I would
 24.
Get on it! Some of the best live bands I've seen have consisted of "older" musicians. Look at bands like UK Subs, Charlie Harper is in his 60s and still full of energy and delivers a blistering live performance.
And he always has a 16 year old Punkette girlfriend! Go Charlie! BTW cool set list, I'd go see a band doing knocking those out Re the age thing. It's no barrier to having fun, but if I want to join a band intent on making it, telling people I'm in my 20's rather than pushing 40 would still be the best thing to do.
