Maybe even some on BC.
Duff Mckagan - G n R , Velvet Wotsit. According to an interview with Steve Adler in Classic Rock Magazine, before G n R were signed, and when they were both addicts, they were rent boys who used to do things to business men for $50 a pop. So to speak.
3.
in the middle of songs !! Went to see a local band last night , very good apart from the bass player kept playing slap riffs and then back to fingerstyle in EVERYTHING from "i shot the sheriff" to "you need a friend " ! WTF is all that about its like bass tourettes !!! I saw another well known local basist doing this six months ago and couldnt believe it then either, it has made up my mind im going 100% fretless from now on i dont want to risk sliding on the slippery slope !!
The Bitch on bass, from Rock Bitch slaps quite awesomely on a fretless.
4. I'll be following this one
5.
Here's the ACG 9 string which I collected today: Basic Specs: 9 strings 35" scale Swamp ash body with mahogany top and wenge accent Mahogany headstock facing with a wenge backplate Maple/wenge neck with wenge transition plate Bookmatched, acrylicised, spalted maple fingerboard Hipshot hardware. piezo in bridge ACG pickups and EQ-01 preamp Serial/Parallel switching Neck or Piezo switch Low battery indicator This is the result of many, many hours on Alan's (ACG) part and to him I extend my sincerest thanks and congratulations on producing such a fine instrument. These aren't the greatest pics, but hopefully they will give an idea of how great this ERB is!!
Does this mean you will have to change your user name?
6.
How come its fine not to like death metal, noise punk, opera or trance (just random examples) but if you don't like jazz then its because you don't know how to hear it!?!? I am not an ignorant pop-conditioned musical monkey just because I don't like "jazz" (or to avoid generalisations, any of the jazz I happen to have heard so far). If jazz is Greek, then early industrial like Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire are [s]Latin[/s] [s]Arabic[/s] [s]Chinese[/s] Old Norse. In which case I am as high brow as you.
+1
7. mines purple with a monkey grip. You would have noticed it had you seen it
8.
Since playing five and six string bass, I have found myself hunching over the neck to see the finger board better.
why do you need to look at the finger board? You know where it is Use all 4 fretting fingers with 1 per fret and you're away. If you know where your fingers were, you can change postion and still know where you are. I remember seeing a band on the tellybox. The guitarist was singing, and as he changed chords he turned his head to look at his fretboard, which meant he wasn't singing into the mic. Reminded me of Norman Collier
9. When I was younger, I hated most music shops. They were intimidating places. I'd walk in, and there would be a couple of staff sat behind a counter usually chatting with a couple of their mates drinking tea and smoking (I'm going back a few years!). They would all stare at me as I walked in and usually not say anything. I'd feel uncomfortable and just want to get the hell out of there
10. sweet . I'm gonna email Jon for an update on mine
11. I used the Korean Mustang again again for Saturday's gig. I went through the same bass rig as the headline bands bassist - didn't even touch his eq settings. He was using one of his +£2k Ricky's. There was not £2k difference in sound quality.
12.
That's not a bass - that's just a body! Are you having one made? Do tell...
I have an Iceni, which was custom made for someone who believed 'the heavier the better' so everything on it was heavy. Somewhere along the line before it got to me, Mike made a new neck for it, and now I'm having a new body made.
13. If I can get a lift - will share costs - from that London (south west) I'll be up for it .
14.
Perrys or the Fishmongers?
really can't remember. Think it was on a junction of a main road and a side street.
15.
Yes, I probably will have the LH (well done for using the abbreviation!) curve slightly contoured - although I'm also not too bothered about upper fret access. What bass are you picking up from him? There didn't seem to be that many complete basses in his workshop.
this one
16. Just seen this thread, read all of it and will be following. I take it you are not too bothered about the upper fret access? Or maybe you could have the neck side curve of the LH contoured? BTW +1 on Mike. I'm picking up my Iceni from him any day now
17.
Its not too bad there as it goes, its when you go past Turnpike Lane that it gets interesting..
There was a pub in Turnpike Lane I used to go to. Played a good bit of rock and punk. Can't remeber what it was called, I'm going back about 15 years...
18. At the end of one song I majestically hefted my bass in air in true rock God style, only to be covered in dust and crap from the tiles in the ceiling that I had put my bass through
19. In terms of mass produced gear, what's the difference between a factory in Korea and the USA? Obviously lower wages in Korea, but if the machinery used is the same, and skills and training of the employees is the same, is the difference just a stamp on the headstock? Is this the case?
20. My last few basses have all been quality mid range USA made (Carvin, Fender J, Musicman Sub, Guild B-301) but for my last gig I used a cheap Asian Mustang bass - not to be confused with the Fender Mustang. Anyway no-one commented on the change of sound, loss of tone, etc or even noticed there was a cheaper bass. There's no doubt the quality of budget basses has increased severely since I were a lad (to be said in wistful Yorkshire accent) and the budget bass feature in BGM got me thinking, are there any budget basses (for the sake of argument no more than £200.00 as per the BGM piece) that can do a pro job? By pro job I mean sounds good enough to do a decent job at a gig for the player, with sufficient build quality to negate any interference issues, plays well with a decent set up, and to an average member of the audience would be no different sound wise to a bass 2 or 3 times it's value. I realise this may be entirely subjective, but we may find some common ground? Waddaya reckon?
21. Panda recently bought my Korg AX3000B. He saved me a journey by coming to me, and was a delight to deal with. I would not hesitate to deal with him again
22.
I assume you are referring to mr thomas? I dont think hes camp. (Does anyone know if he is on the other bus?) He just seems nervous in front of the camera and a bit quiet and sensitive. Definately a case of an unfunky person being able to play extremely funky bass lines. I am going to watch some more of them on youtube tonight.
The guitarist in my band is a former partner of Henry's - they are still in touch. My guitarist is female BTW I can assure you that Henry is not on the other bus Not that there's anything wrong.. etc..
23. Change of mind due to big car bill. SOLD
24. I can be taken off the list too, had it sometime last year - or was it the year before? ta.
