1. cheers guys.
  2. nice one Woodster! I saw one of Neville Staples solo gigs last year. I'm a metal-head (old school!) but I had a great time. The man's a legend! BTW I hope Platypus doesn't mind us bumping his thread. Remember tickets for sale!
  3. I've got a body, that I intend doing things with, but maybe not for a year or so - possibly longer. Do I need to make any special effort for storing it, or is the back of a cupboard good enough? BTW it is a bass body!
  4.
cetera would be the man to ask
Yep the man from the Pru, er I mean PRS!
  5. How old is Eric? 12?
  6. This might force some good deals on the old stock?
  7. Poor old Jerry Dammers. He's been keeping the Special's torch alight for how many years, playing all kinds of dives, and now when they're playing decent venues again where is he?
  8.
- I've provided the English translations as well.
Was it Oscar Wilde, something along the lines of 'England and The United States, 2 countries divided by the same language'
  9.
Is that not numerical? As opposed to 3 quavers to the beat, and 12 quavers in the bar. I think my post was a bit confussing, sorry Garry
If we are talking about 1/8 notes, then wouldn't you expect there to be 8 of them? In 12/8 I think explaining 3 1/8 to the beat, and 12 1/8 to the bar, is more confusing. In 3/4 there are 6 1/8 notes per bar, it loses all sense once we move out of 4/4. I'm happy using the conventions developed over 1000 years of written notation .

Glad you like. BTW it's a new studio we used, so I'm interested in opinions about the quality of the recording. ta.
  11.
I used a Traben Array 5-string LTD in my band for a time. We were doing stuff between Prog and Mathcore and it certainly cut through! It's got a MM humbucker @ bridge and Sopabar at the neck. Didn;t like the feel though but it certainly cuts through. I don't use it no more and it collects dust...unfortunatly.
For sale section?
No sound
Not sure why, it's working ok for me and I'm not logged in to myspace. have you tried turning it off, then turning it on again?
  13.
As I couldn't afford a GUS bass and would love a thunderbird which wasn't neck heavy and prone to breaking I thought that this was the next best thing. Needed some moding though. First the pickups were replaced with Seymour Duncans and some routing for a Gibson humbucker put right up next to the neck. One of the tone controls was changed for a 5 way rotary pickup selector switch. The rather crappy gibsonesque bridge was replaced with a tunomatic and thru-body stringing - bit like a flying V (had to add the chrome cover as the posts for the tunomatic had to be moved back a bit and the old holes plugged so the plugs needed covering), the plastic nut was replaced with a brass one and the rather boring black scratch plate replaced with a white one and a thunderbird decal added. Now its got decent J and P bass pickups with a Gibson bass humbucker (and combinations of), looks sort of Thunderbird/Explorer but is balanced and less likely to have its neck break.
so how does it sound?

If you don't like old school heavy metal, then this probably isn't going to change your mind! But if you don't mind a bit of Priest, Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead, Venom, Exodus, Accept, etc then you might enjoy it. http://www.myspace.com/arnikauk Old school heavy metal and proud of it!
  15.
So do i, In tandem with the time sig, it all makes numerical sense, especially for the beginner. Garry
not necessarily, it can be more confusing. If you are in 12/8 and you are talking about 1/8 notes, then you have three 1/8 notes per beat and twelve 1/8 notes to the bar.
  16.
err... and so are you...?!!
LOL. yeah doing an all-nighter, got essays due in on Tuesday.
  17.
Cool stuff... I reckon that could look quite cool... as well as being functional!
cheers. Thanks. Yeah functional, cool, and a bit different. BTW you're up late!
  18.
As has already been mentioned, the Americans use the following names for note lengths
and they are wrong!
This is that damned American terminology which seems to permeate popular music causing such confusion.
+1 and BGM being British should know better.
  19. So we've been discussing the thumb chum. It is pretty much as wide as the gap between the bridge units and the end of the neck, at its 'highest/widest' point its about the same as the measurement across the P pickup. There's a bit of a scoop out at the front of it so I can get my fingers in. The whole shape will be curved and made more ergonomic when its sanded so it looks like its swelled up out of the bass
  20.
That's an awful long time to wait for a bass. Hope it's not too much longer.
thanks, me too!
  21. There's something about an open D. Which is why my Shuker has the drop D extra frets - Kubicki style

    I'm off to NZ.

NZ is the new Hollywood. There must be plenty of opportunities there now. Good luck! BTW as I type I'm wearing my Highlanders rugby super 12 top.
  23. There's an NJ pointy BC Rich in the for sale for £150. If I had the space I would have snapped it up.
  24. not sure why people think the 2 are exclusive? +1 on Jakeys comments.
  25.
They can compete with the online people but many stores seem unable to grasp the concept that good customer service will win over price differential most of the time, especially on large, expensive purchases. Plus a few bricks and mortar shops I know will match Internet prices. They get my business because that is a big part of customer service - going the extra mile.
+1 I just want someone to be nice to me.
