1. Bass players in hats rule!
2.
Hmmmn, looks very nice. I quite fancy that!
you should then
3. Lovely! what made you decide to add the scratch plate? Looks good both ways though.
4. The ramp between the pup thing looks cool, but I'm only having 1 pup. The all in one thing, is as much to keep the aesthetic, as it is practical. I think scalloping the ramp at the neck is the answer?
5. with the imminent arrival of my Iceni Zoot, and a return to 4 strings, I now have for sale my 5 string Carvin LB75P. It's been my main gigging bass for a while now, USA made, HB, J, & piezzo. Switchable HB, runs active or passive, and even runs passive without batteries. 3 band EQ. There are a couple of ever so minor blemishes as you would expect from a gigged bass, but they haven't shown in the pics. There is a nick out of the edge of the 15th fret, above the B string and position dot. I have tried to show this in the pic. Comes with the Carvin hard case. http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...rvin/LB75P/10/1 here are some reviews on Harmony Central. I'm after £399.99 cash and collection - I'm in Roehampton (that London), Here's the science Here's the nick Here's the bass I've just Googled this bass, and first thing it brings up in the UK search is my post in the basses owned thread on here! cheers Simon
6. Salisbury Arms, pub in Luton but miles out from the centre. New landlord wants to make a go of it as a music venue and has bands booked every week past New Year. We had our usual Polish contingent among the fans (due to our Polish drummer) and as the support band we had more people watching us than the headlining band. Belted out our usual medley of old school heavy metal and covers of Iron Maiden, Accept, and Venom. Went down well
7. Wasn't it Yorkshire TV who made 3-2-1? I'm not sure of the copy-right issues, but it might be worth contacting them & Challenge TV? Also I think a version of 5 Star is still doing the rounds. Could be worth contacting them?
8. a slight bend in your hand, and use the top (near wrist) part of the palm to mute - for me it's the fleshy part of the thumb joint - as you move across and up following the floating thumb. Also don't forget about muting with your fretting hand. And if your hands are big enough, use your thumb to mute the E string. Find your own way and whatever works (that doesn't cause you injury!) works!
9. You want to be going for a UHF system rather that a VHF. VHF are cheaper, and for a reason! There are always deals and bargains to be had, it's just a case of being lucky and finding them. The above is IMO and experience, I'm sure others may disagree.
10.
A big band arrangement of Spain.
ooh! good luck, the stops and changes IIRC from my younger days, are quite challenging. Having a horn section will help. But back to the OP, for me Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. I did it tonight at an acoustic night on guitar, but the first thing I learned (even though I didn't play it) was the bass line. I am a bassist after all
11.
...but do you not get my point? You said as much in your post (and I quote): My build is unlike anything Jon has ever built before. Jon is building your bass, not you. I understand the talent these luthiers have, I really do, but my point here is what quantifies a build diary - it's Jon building your bass, so shouldn't he be blowing his own trumpet maybe? I don't know. At the end of the day, you're paying the guy for his talent and ability to provide you with your dream bass; credit to you for putting your trust and money into someone you believe in, I salute you, but, irrespective of your dreams or desires it's really not so different than placing an order with the Warwick or Fender custom shops (albeit you're dealing on a more personal basis), or getting someone to build you a car part or a computer and taking the credit for it as your build.. I'm not trying to piss anyone off here, but there are a lot of projects creeping into this part of the forum that in my opinion should be elsewhere. P
I think I get your point, but the way I look at it, the build thread wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for me. If I had the talent and ability to make my own bass from scratch, that would have happened. But I don't. Like other Shuker threads, Jon isn't running blind with my bass, but what he is doing, is what I can't. Every step of the way I am in charge, so have to disagree because this is definitely my bass, and not Jon's - although he is building it - but the bottom line is if it wasn't for me he would not be building a bass like this. BTW not p1553d 0ff!
12.
That's looking really slick. You going for gloss or matte? It looks pretty cool with that semi-gloss-semi-matte look going on at present. Also, is that Jon's updated standard shape? If so I wholeheartedly approve Mark
My original plan was to go for the kind of oil finish like on Warwicks, but I do think a matt/satin finish looks good too. No, the body shape is just for me - as far as I know. Maybe Jon has other ideas
13. only a gap of about 2 1/2 months Right, here's the body front and back. As you know from my spec I want as purple as possible without actually being black, and Jon assures me that is the case in normal light. the only other thing is that there will be 6 bolts in the neck joint.
14. some players like the dull thud of an old set of strings, some like the 'zing' of a new pair. Horses for courses and all that. But if you start to notice deadspots or have problems staying in tune, or are ripping your fingers to shreds, it might be worth changing.
15. Started with classical guitar lessons age 9. First electric guitar age 12. First bass age 16. 2 reasons: - Classical guitar technique adapted to bass better than to electric guitar. - Nikki Sixx running around on stage like a loon, and being the coolest one in the band. :brow:
16.
I swear I saw people moshing and headbanging at one point, not what I'd expected from the real ale brigade...
we come in all shapes and sizes and generally with a liking for a decent bit of ROCK
17.
buy anything with humbuckers/soapbars and tie a brick to the headstock!
18. send me a pm how much you want for the Heroin Diaries inc p&p. ta.
19. The Hamer ones are worth looking out for too. Might be a bit of a search, but you sometimes get a deal on them.
20. yep another +1 here. My build is unlike anything Jon has ever built before, so again is a bit unique. What he has is the ability and the talent to turn what I want, in to reality.
21.
Picking up my new Fender Japan 1970 Re-issue P Bass from Malcolm at the Guitar Emporium tomorrow. Cant wait
Expecting pics
22.
When I met him, he was the same. He's also a very good magician. He did this trick where I had to tug on this weird hairless rabbit to make it dissappear, but I think I did it too hard because it was sick on my hand then just shrivelled up.
you bad, bad, man
23.
I always change my batteries once a year whether they need it or not.
I have the same opinion on bathing.
