I've got a stack of Bass Guitar Magazine, that go back to 2004, to throw in the pot.

Anyone got a custom made cab by The Bass Merchant?
MacDaddy replied to Jamesemt's topic in Amps and Cabs
Looks like normal tech gear mate! (niiiiiice) I don't quite follow, what did Mike make mate?
He put more powerful neo's in both - 10s on top 12s underneath - new handles on one, and altered them to run down to 4ohms, and did things to the amp that I can't remember (but have written down somewhere ). My use of the word made may have been misleading, perhaps I should have just stuck with customised . -
I'm weighing up my cab options, one of which is to get a custom made 1x12 as I need it in 4ohm. Has anyone had a cab made by them (or seen/heard one by them?). Apparently they are reverse engineered Tech Soundsystems cabs... FWIW been quoted £280 each (I'd like to get two).
I have a customised TVM 2x10 combo and a 2x12 cab he made for me. -

I think the well built angle of decent cables is a point of consideration. I have some from OBBM and know they will easily earn back the initial outlay - which wasn't that much - because they will last so much longer thus reducing replacements. It's piece of mind as well, I know I have quality cables which are gonna last, and not be the cause of any problems, so no worries
On the way I asked what sort of stuff he played. He said he played a bit of everything, Funk, R&B, Soul, Rock, Jazz etc. I asked who he played with and he paused slightly and quietly said "Jamiroquai". There was a moment of silence and I said, "Wow, as far as bass gigs go, thats about the best one in the country." He laughed and said we were actually on the way to JK's house and studio now. Another silence fell. I suddenly felt like a complete idiot for not recognising the name Paul Turner in the emails. Still grinning now though. I'm probably one of the most undeserving guys on here to meet him as I am in to such different music and wouldn't really describe myself as a fan as some of you likely are. Weird day.
I'm guessing if you met William Murderface - different story
Mr Russ If you do go ahead with the BEAD idea, Rotosound do a Swing bass 66 extra heavy (65-80-105-130). You can get these fron Stringbusters for £16. I don't know if you like Roto's or not but I think it saves buying a 5 string set paying more and only using 4 of them.
ooh! thanks for that!

I did it with my passive Sub. Had to widen the nut for the B, and adjust the set up, but no problems worked fine.

at a pub in Hertforshire, I took a dodgy pint of real ale back to the bar, and sitting at the end was Craig Charles. Nice bloke. He walked past me on a train a few years later. In Disneyworld in 1989 I was on a walkway, and saw Fred Coury (drummer in Cinderella) walk past. In Brighton a few years ago, I met a bloke who claimed to be a promoter, and that he was the person who first brought The Hives to England. His opinion of my (then) band was 'well it's harmless'
Probably not worth taking too many large bass rigs as the room is not really very good acoustically and we better not make TOO much noise. I took my Mesa 400+/1516BE rig once and it was far too big/loud. Always a good idea to bring a small pocket headphone amplifier which your ears are accustomed to so you can try out some basses.
the Dalek was just too big
Cheers Mert! That 59' P is amazing by the way... A bass is going to be there that's older than me - fantastic
I was in the Virgin Mega store in Leeds back in the 80's, when Wayne Hussey was walking around with a camera crew. Now I'm a short-arse, but he's even smaller! Earlier in the 80's I met Little & Large at the end of one of the piers in Blackpool. I met Charlie Harper at the 1st Pistols reunion gig, then bumped into him again after a Subs gig in Oslo. He always seems to have a 16 year old punk girlfriend. I said hello to Gaby Roslin after after a theatre show in London - she said hello back! - she was simply stunning.

the one thing we all agree on seems to be the lack of bottom end?
Ooooo any pics of the shuker?
it's in progress, there's a thread in the build section

I'm having a Shuker custom made, and one of the influences is the King bass. So It's 32" with a bend well and LED's. I've played them at the Bashes, and find the body a bit uncomfortable, and IMO they don't look good played low in a rock style - but I am aware that's not what they are about. Like the necks though.
