I do take your point. Many years ago, for reasons, I used a no name east Asian bass for a gig. The band didn't even notice I was playing a different bass, let alone a different coloured bass. The sound FOH wasn't noticeably different.

But were they any good for metal?

I've posted this elsewhere, but the one when the vocalist had spent the previous few days smoking a large bag of weed. Not eating, or attending to personal hygiene or anything, just smoking the weed. Come the day of the gig, someone had to go get him as he hadn't turned up. He shambled on stage and instead of singing, he just made squealing and moaning sounds. The very much shortened first set was ended when his mother dragged him off stage, and drove him to a mental health facility.

Agreed Gary Glitter wrote some great songs, but my understanding is that he sold his song catalogue so doesn't make money from them anymore? All it takes is an accusation, and the court of public opinion condems, regardless of the truth.

What's interesting is how many British bands were in the USA Live Aid lineup.

I usually mod guitar/basses thus killing the resale value 😆 It was only when I started buying my custom Shuker's that my basses were exactly how I wanted them, so no need to mod.

Haven't got a pic, but I'd be interested in tracking down my old 6 string Shuker. Sold it many years ago on a previous incarnation of Basschat, but can't remember to whom.
