  1. It's one of my custom Shuker's. It's actually based on the double bass extended fretboard Here's the full bass
  2. It was more about the contributions would be welcome on the other thread, rather than a chastisement 🙂
  3. Chaps, we have a thread for this kind of thing 🙂
  4. Lovely pic of yourself, any chance of one of the bass? 😉
  5. Bending notes is a bit difficult at the top of the neck. I realise this is a bit niche, but a song wot I have wrote, has a bass solo which starts with a bend on the 24th fret of the G string.
  6. Wonder what happened to this?
  7. I'd done classical guitar recitals and played with orchestras and choirs, but the first 'band' gig on bass was an originals band, with 3 Pink Floyd covers in the set. I seem to remember the opening song being Floyd's Breathe.
  8. Michael Monroe Last night, Electric Ballroom, that London. You'd never guess he's 62 by how active he is on stage. Highlight for me though Sami Yaffa on bass! 😎 It was advertised as the 40th anniversary of Two Steps from the Move, plus the hits. IMO he was a few songs short, no Oriental Beat, Mystery City, or Mental Beat, but otherwise a great gig.
  9. At least you didn't waste it!
  10. Yes No Depends 😜
  11. For 'silent' practice I either use my amp - headphones, phone into the aux (loop return may do?), or Multi FX, headphones, phone into aux.
  12. Nigel Kennedy "no blood, no Bruckner". Venue "no Bruckner no paycheck". There was Bruckner, no blood.
  13. On the Amazon, the first page of results for 'Double bass bow' has DB bows priced from £17.55 to £3,732.71. Where's a good place to start for a tightarse beginner?
  14. I've played and owned 5's and 6's. My happy place is 4 but with an extended fretboard (not a detuner) for Eb and open D.
  15. That's disappointing to hear. My experience of Biker gangs Clubs is that bands are usually well looked after and have an appreciative audience. Not good they scammed you on the fee.
  16. Vids from the gig: VID-20241121-WA0020.mp4 VID-20241121-WA0021.mp4
  17. I Googled a question about something bass related and the first result was a Basschat thread that I started! 😆
  18. IIRC threads dormant for over a year - excepting Feedback threads and some others - were meant to be automatically deleted to save server space (or something)? As there are often threads revived, whose last post was years ago, I assume BC now has more server space than it knows what to do with?
  19. Is it a non refundable deposit? You don't actually own the bass yet, so until it's delivered I'd say you're still in.
  20. Are these lower tension? I'm a bit confused as to how these would feel, if they also suit a Cello - tuned in fifths from G - so are they a bit floppy?
  21. "Bass" mug? 😵‍💫
  22. Royal Blues at The Glad, that London last night. The evening started with my finding out I wasn't in the band pic on the flyers. A subtle hint maybe? Turns out only 2 pics from the photo shoot we did, were done portrait, and to make them fit the flyer I was cut off as I was at the end. I'm on the Instant Gram and other socials. The venue usually put on acoustic solo or duos, in my band there are 7 of us. So it was cosy in the stage area. I was using my Ibanez UB804 which was DI'd. The stage monitor is usually used for the acoustic gigs, so the bass couldn't be turned up too much, meaning it was another gig where I couldn't really hear myself. The guitarist had the same problem. Despite all that, the place was packed and the punters loved it, and the promoter is going to book us for a bigger venue. One guy said to me after "what you did on that bass was unbelievable". I chose to take it as a compliment 😆
