  1. I had a Black Widow 1*15. They must be a rite-of-passage 😆
  2. Not true at all! They can determine if there’s an underlying cause, and then address that issue through medications or surgery. If there is no identifiable cause, they can recommend remedies that can help reduce its intensity. Don't be afraid of asking for a second opinion.
  3. There was a thread a while ago (years?) about wearing gloves to play @xilddx was an advocate.
  4. Apparently Billy Sheehan was told no bass shredding on Skyscraper, the second Dave Lee Roth album.
  5. I had it on at the gym. Damn it's funky! 🤩 Noticed myself starting to boogie along 😆
  6. Ok, wow! Betting it sounds even better from 20 feet away! 😎
  7. I think it's important to remember that people known for playing vintage Fenders, were often playing Fenders that were not vintage. For example, Jamerson's stock '62 P bass was not a vintage bass when he was playing it in the 60's.
  8. All of them tbh. But finances and space meant I had to 😟
  9. As per the thread title, in terms of train wreck 'moments', rather than the whole gigs, I'm sure we've all had plenty of those? At various gigs I have had to, and other band members have had to: Catch a falling PA speaker that a (drunk) punter has crashed into. Do some tap dancing because a (drunk) punter stepped on one or more FX pedals. Deal with the (drunk) punter who tries to take a microphone. Avoid the (drunk) and usually (always) female punter who is trying to steal my hat while I'm playing. Plenty more...
  10. A case in point: When Darryl Jones asked Keith Richards how a particular 'Stones bass part went, and Keith replied "you're the bass player, you tell me".
  11. Want to tell that to Bootsy Collins or Chris Wolsteholme?
  12. There are details on BC somewhere, for a company who rent pedals, so you can try a whole bunch before you buy.
  13. I've been in bands as the support act to strippers twice. Neither went well. Once was for 'The Dreamboys', however this was long after the whole 'Chippendales', 'Dreamboys' male stripper thing had peaked. An indication of bad things were, was when we found out tickets were been offered on a buy-one-get-four-free deal. The gig was in a bowling alley, and the Dreamboys were performing across the lanes, but for some reason the band were tucked away in a side room, where the buffet was. Of course we played to an empty room. Not sure if the punters, such as there were, even knew there was a band. Pretty sure they would not have cared even if they did! So, free rehearsal with catering.
  14. Ah, the "getting back" train wreck. In the days before satnav, my band had a gig in Northampton. A band member had a friend in Northampton so we were able to get to the gig fine, in daylight. After the gig the friend had gone, and I asked the bar manager for directions to the M1. Now what I reckon happened, is that they clocked my northern accent, and thinking that they were doing me a favour, gave directions to the M1 north junction. Which would have been fine, but I was living in Luton at the time. As it happened there were roadworks and diversions in place. Turning back in the dark and early hours of the morning on country lanes wasn't really an option, so we didn't actually join the M1 until near Leicester.
  15. Many years ago on Emmerdale Farm, when Alan Bates was running the Woolpack, he booked some musicians from one of the music colleges expecting a classical recital. A band turned up and launched into Smells Like Teen Spirit 🤣
  16. But the original performer doesn't always perform their bass line like on the original. eg listen to the Ox play Substitue in the 60's, 70's, and 90's. Different each time. Still awesome though
  17. There was the one where @Happy Jack was told in no uncertain terms, that if he did not let the family of "Irish travellers" get on stage with us and use his mic, then "the boots are coming off!".
  18. "Dream a litle dream" always annoyed me, not the whole line, but the way it starts with a diminished 5th. It works, but still...
