  1. Agreed. Getting the 'attack' associated with playing with a pick can easily be got from fingers.
  2. Shirley September 18, 1978?
  3. Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini by Bombalurina went to number 1 in 1990. Achy Breaky Heart wasn't released until 1992 so I guess something had to fill the void...
  4. I used a pick when I first started to play bass, as I was still playing classical guitar and had long nails on my picking hand. I finally settled on Jim Dunlop's Big Stubby's as my pick of choice.
  5. Carefully tune your instrument before playing. That way you can play out of tune with a clear conscience 😜
  6. he wants to be careful, he may get sued for exploitation, child pornography etc...
  7. I've had 5 string, and 6 string basses, but I've found my home with double octave necks and D extended fretboards, both headed and headless, so no having to get use to a detuned E string 😁
  8. Yeah, people on clip shows and documentaries often churn this one out. Not quite true. Most musical genres tend to have a peak commercial success of roughly 2 years. The hair metal scene - which was always bigger in the USA than here - had been going on since 1981. As happens it was time for a new generation to find their own thing. Gunge wasn't the only 'new' genre making a stir in the early 90's but no-one blames New Metal, or pop-punk for killing hair metal. Not too many hair metal bands changed to a gunge style and became successful, off the top of my head I can only think of Pantera, and Alice in Chains.
  9. It took me a while to realise those are tree branches at the back of the stage, and not a logo for one of the bands...
  10. nowhere at the moment. I'm yet to rehearse with my new band 🙄 but I'll bring it to the next Bassbash I go to.
  11. build thread and more pics here:
  12. is it? 😬
  13. I do like that finish 😎
  14. Ibanez Rock and Play?
  15. If I had to choose just one, then probably Ludwig van Beethoven.
  16. I remember "image and ability" being required in 80's band ads . In Guy Pratt's book he says band ads before punk: guitarist wanted, no breadheads on a heavy trip. After punk: guitarist wanted, no beards.
  17. If we're talking about "obvious", it has to be Noel Redding!
  18. That is a beast! 😎
  19. How is he getting that pinched harmonic at 2:36? I've watched his right hand and he doesn't seem to be pinching!
  20. not sure what you mean by "turning the pick"? Do you mean using part of the pick that is not the 'point'?
