  1. Hi Caz, a bit of a decenting voice from me! My Shuker's have the extra 2 frets like the Kubicki's, but even so I've found that for noodling around at bedroom levels my Digitech bass synth wah, does a good enough job at my attempts at Uptown Funk. Before buying a 5 string, I would suggest getting a decent bass synth pedal - most have an octave function - rather than a dedicated octave pedal, and try it. If it doesn't do what you want you shouldn't lose money if you move it on. Remember, it's what works for you.
  2. have a drink have a drive, go out and see what you can find - Mungo Jerry. And the less said about the original lyrics to 'The Sun has got his hat on', the better...
  3. would Iron Maiden have had continued success, if it was disclosed there was no 'real' bass and drums on every album from Number of the Beast? (and the singer had been arrested for domestic abuse and the drummer was a convicted wifebeater - but that's another story...)
  4. A blast from the past, for those wanting to relive their misspent youth...
  5. Once heard never forgotten...
  6. what could possibly go wrong?
  7. i mentioned Stewart Lee's sanctimonious Oxbridge smuggery in another thread. Nothing there to disabuse me of that notion. Although I am aware it may be his 'comedy persona' or 'act', and he may actually be a fine fellow to have a pint with.
  8. Wouldn't it be great to have a new music scene? When was the last one?
  9. Bought my Twisted Sister Epi Les Paul from them. Much pinkness 😎
  10. A thread on Doom Metal and Candlemass are not the first band mentioned? \m/
  11. No probably about it. There are plenty of interviews with Mike Shipley talking about the recording process.
  12. No real bass or drums on record after Pyromania.
  13. So from what I've read, Taylor Swift signed a 6 album record deal in 2006, in exchange for a large advance to kick start her career the record company would own the masters. As the writer or co-writer of her music, she still owns the publishing rights. This was/is standard practice for new or unsigned bands. (A band owning their masters was so unprecedented in 1998, that Motley Crue had to sign an NDA to stop them saying how they did it). Now apparently Miss Swift is cross because the masters which she does not own have been sold by someone she does not like? Am I missing something? Her PR Machine has successfully portrayed her as a victim, when all involved are multi-millionaires. .
  14. Current bass player Jenny sounds great, and always has a big smile when she's playing 😎
  15. no mention of Rock Goddess yet? They reformed a couple of years ago and the latest album is quite good 😎
  16. whereas I know people with autism for who music is their connection to the world, and non-verbal people on the spectrum who can have sophisticated dialogues through music
  17. Check out Infectious Grooves to see how insanely talented he is 😎
  18. I can't see it, where is it?
  19. I think I saw The Blood. Did they support Slapshot back in the 90's?
  20. Yes. Not very metal though.

    Boss SYB-5

In my continuing quest for an 80's keyboard bass sound - as opposed to an 80's synth bass sound - I've just pulled the plug on the eBay for a Boss SYB-5. When I'm able to go elsewhere to make a noise at louder than bedroom levels (post lockdown) I'll be comparing and contrasting with my Future Impact, and Digitech Bass Synth Wah. I like most of the setting in the vid below, but I'm particularly impressed with the settings for Take on Me 2:20 in. Listening with headphones makes a big difference
  22. I had to go the custom route to get 'the one'. Now I've got 2 of the one
  23. I would have watched it, but Stewart Lee with his sanctimonious Oxbridge smugness, always comes across as a bit of an derrière. I am aware that may be his 'act' or 'comedy persona', but I'm not willing to watch a documentary he presents.
  24. I came to bass from classical guitar too, and use the same technique for bass playing. I cut my nails though. Steve Harris plays using his nails, and uses flats. Although he does have a distinctive clangy tone.
  25. and some contents may settle during transit.
