1. Thing I can't work out is yours is a good 90,000 units before mine, but in the space of a few months. This is a good thread on talkbass about the 69's, www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=415393&highlight=svt+1969
2. Ok, got it, mine has two sets of numbers 24101270 and 1377049, the later is the one we are after, 137= Chicago made, 70= year, 49= 49th week. Hang on that is Dec 70!!
3.
Mine ends in 1270 too. Is that a strange coincidence or is that not the date?
Ok that is strange, as mine is a whole load away from yours in chassis number, its 102xxx. Hmm I think a bit of research.
4.
Can anyone offer any guidance on dating it? What does the chrome chassis indicate? I guess it's a '69 or a '70 but would be nice if someone in the know could confirm it. The serial is 005165.
Woh, that is seriously early, try this for dating, www.unofficialampeg.com/dating.html Looking like its an early 70 or a late 69. Slide out the main chassis and on the bias pot's are dates, mine read xxxxx-1270 = dec 1970.
5. Superb, Chrome chassis too. Will you add a 240v winding to the new transformer, as I think these were only 110 with no other spurs.
6. Nice one, I have a 1970 SVT arriving in a few days and I can't sleep. Looking forward to some pic's.
7.
I've just noticed I'm pouting a lot while playing...
Me too, but only in certain songs and usually when I'm just loving my sound, oh and I grind my teeth at night.
8. I suppose he's selling himself, so one would think a photo of himself would help.
9. once you have got through the waffle of a description 110513097576
10. Was up for sale last month, do a completed listing search. I seem to think it had both cabs last time.
11. I have put Alps pot's in guitars before now, they are expensive ( £10-14) but they are in the top league, with direct physical contact at full on, that basically means you have an almost resistance free signal on 10, plus nice multi brushes, on the downside they are almost always dual track ( not easy to mod) and beware of fakes.
12. With ''Changes'' For the worse I think. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1964-RICKENBACKER-40...f#ht_500wt_1182
13.
I have just changed my stock 12ax7 on the Genz Shuttle 9. I tried the stock against a Groove tube and NOS Mullard. There were clear inprovements in detail, bass quality and tone with each change. The Mullard was a clesr winner as it is a classic Hifi valve but did cost a heavy £40 from ebay. I would recommend buying a few and finding the one the suits your budget and ears. I also tried a JJ and give give them a thumbs up................good clear sound with a clean midrange and OK bass. Good luck.......its fun.
Mullard will win every time, no contest, military US tubes are good too, beware of Groove tubes these are just chinese cooking valves, all they do is select them, like matching their power valves in grades, so silk purse etc.
14. Early Marshall's Ampeg's Fender's bass or guitar were very similar internally, I think they didn't put too much thought into the differences (maybe they knew they didn't need to), but they all sounded fantastic, it's just later on people started designing bass amps to sound like they thought they should sound, bit of a generalization I know, but I have played through channel one on a Burman Pro2000 for a while now,and it really knocks most bass amps into the old cocked hat.

Donny just noticed the listing, but it doesn't come up if you search Rickenbacker 4001 so you may be missing punters, perhaps put a space between 4001 and FG, cheers, Sean.

17. Glenn, the old thread is still here on page three, TTT
18. Looks like the first bidder went to 3600 and lost to another who looks, judging by his history to be a mate, did anyone manage to view the bass?
19. An earlier version of the fire breathers.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123
20. Is it just me, but the bridge pup is the main reason I sold my Jazz.
21. That's a relief, I think Ebay ain't big enough for the both of them...
22. Well the bidder is possibly German and has bought a few instruments in the last few weeks.
23. No I'll save that for a rainy day, oh hang on it is raining. I'm not sure he's got a clue though, if its Gibson they'll be 500k if its Fender they'll be 250k and so on and so on. 24.
Schaller 3D. Better looking, better made, more adjustable and more compact than a BAII and you can pick them up used for £25 or less. You will have to drill 3 new holes, but the base plate has pilot holes which match the 2 of original Fender ones, to line it up precisely. Edit - 3Ds aren't string-through. Sorry! Jon.
Better looking?, better Made? more adjustable yes, more compact?. Had one on my Ric for years, used to wind me up every string change as it adjusts while you withdraw or replace strings and all this adjustment means more moving parts taking it sonically further away. Replaced it for a Badass 1 and it was like night and day superior especially sustain. Get a Badass on US ebay, job done.
25. I love the neck on my Ric, very untapered and quite uniform. Played a Stingray for a while, didn't have a problem with the neck though but hated the sound. I only had a problem with myself speed wise, as I can fret faster than I can pluck and pick faster than I can fret. If you like the Ric twang, you can wind this up with increased treble, if you go through two rigs, one with the twang and grind the other with the very smooth neck pup. This never went down well with fellow bandmates come the time to load up.
