1.
Have you tried the SG bass? I had a go on one in Hartnolls (Plymouth) the build quality was excellent and it had a distinctive sound of its own but I miss my old EB3L, it just somehow had much bigger cojones. I always used mine on that setting too. One of them and a vintage Marshall head (ahem I have two for sale) is the classic set up. Why dont they reissue the EB3L slotted peg head with the original pickup selector configuration?
I think its the EL34's that work so well with the Gibson, at practice I have used a JTM 45 and a 4x12, just a fantastic warmth...
 2.
Glenn Cornick - EB0 Felix Pappalardi - EB1 and EB3
Felix Pappalardi, what a ''Dude'', I remember all those many albums they made, it seemed they were all Japanese imports. Going to dust a few off tonite and get the turntable going.
 3. Coming from another topic to something I thought would be worthy of a fresh post, it is from youtube but, hell this man is an inspiration, then again, the whole band are, not so good sound wise but just that separation of the sound, so pure, love it., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odLL_s3UJgs...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK89EVPRaX4...feature=related , Quite a distorted sound, Andy was always Marshall, but the Orange is certainly diff.
 4.
All info is going into the mix mate, many thanks. Anyone have any thoughts on my putting one of these in.....? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:RTQ:GB:1123 Chris
Check out the official Ric site forum, I can't find it, but it was a thread about the various diff in ''K'' of the pup's through the years and the diff in sounds, it was a real interesting read, sorry I can't link it.
 5. About 4 gigs into a 1970 EB3 now and its just great, lots of diff sounds, you do have to play hard though. Could never understand what Jack Bruce's sound was, other than just a dull bass, Andy Fraser of Free, now his sound is just awesome with the EB3 and the reason I bought the Gibson.
 6. Cool, what an amazing place this is, just over 24 hours and you know where you're going Welcome to the Ric club, you do realize that we all want to hear your Ric when its ready
 7.
I'm leaning towards a player's version but don't want to go too far down that route only to find I should have stuck with Ric parts. If after-market parts give me a greater range of options, be these in terms of mechanics or tone, whilst still offering the tone authentic Ric parts would offer, then I'm happy. I guess I don't want to have the experience I had of putting a Badass II on a 70's Precision thinking it would increase tonal options only to find that improvements in sustain and harmonic content were offset substantially by a lack of middy thumpiness, when it was middy thumpiness that I wanted a Precision for Does that make sense?
Yes it does, Badass 2 is real close in mass to Fender, but the Badass 2 is a much lighter bridge compared to the 1, in my side pic you can see how deep the thing is and its sat 3mm below the perspex too, its a very heavy piece. The original Ric part is nowhere near the Badass and I haven't lost a thing only gained, I'm sure this will also be the case with the Hipshot, cost could be an issue, just got another B/1 from ebay US, $49.00, to the door was about £35-£40.
 8.
I didn't find the SDs sounded much like the pickups they replaced. I expected the SD bridge pickup to sound like a beefier version of the original, but it actually sounded more nasal to me. YMMV. The neck pickup was crisper (ceramic magnets I believe) but lacked the character. BTW, I've played SS73s bass and it does sound excellent, and that with only the bridge pickup. Something he's done certainly works. SS73, how did the Twin Valve work out? Nice to see you posting!
Hi man, never realized it was you , those Ric's just came on coming, maybe you should post the pic of the collection. Twin Valve is great, gigged for a while then I got valve gas and bought a V8
 9. Here's a pic of the Badass, fitted as far back to get the most surface to sit, under the perspex cover is a fillet of hardwood a few thou thicker than the depth of the routing and it just sits clamped under the front of the Badass, cover is just a dab of evostick no horrid screws and all reversable. Adjusting is simple.
 10. Badass 1, not 2, 2 was designed as a direct fender spaced replacement bridge, I have a Badass 1 fitted on my 4001 and it is night and day diff to the ric one, sustain is probably the most noticable gain, purists really hate the Badass as its not really a direct fit and most muppets make a real ab...... of fitting them, I will post a pic if you like of how it should be done so it can be reversed. Hipshot bridge is great, but if like me you think the original looks crap too, why bother, plus Aluminium? sonically has all the soul of an empty beer can, go Brass. The Badass is a Zinc/Brass etc Alloy I think. Tuners are also pants, especially the ones with the plastic ferrels, I have schallers fitted and they also help with sustain. I also cast a Silver nut some years ago, this with all the rest make the whole Bass sing, strings also just seem to keep on ringing for months. Not sure on pup's been quite happy with stock, but if you are going to use flats/fretless and stick with original pup's, fit the .0047 cap in the line from the bridge pup, this will give you the classic Ric sound. This cap was introduced because of flats and gives the bass a bit more high freq.
 11.
you could always buy mine & save the import hassle. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=58423 i bought this from John at far east guitars & can confirm he's a top bloke to deal with.
Thats a great looking bass, so much better with the white fret markers.
 12. must be able to pick up songs quickly as in when they come crashing to the floor? I think you'll find its the drummer or guitarist that cause this, as all the bassists here are quite competent...
 13.
However the website does look like it was made by a schoolkid on MS word in an afternoon. There are no contact details on the website and a whois search turns up that the the domain was registered less than a month ago to someone called Jeff Rice although domain privacy is on, so there is no address listed. If a deal goes wrong angry emails won't go far. All the images are copied off other sites and the text contains such BS as "All new Fender Japan guitars have crafted in Japan printed on the rear base of the neck. Apart from that are identical to the USA instruments." It may be a genuine attempt at creating a business, but it doesn't inspire any confidence whatsoever, especially after this morning's not so subtle attempt at spamming basschat with shill posts. It would have been more honest if he had introduced himself saying he can send basses to the UK and invited questions rather than pretending to be a satisfied customer. Also once FMIC get wind of the site their lawyers will probably issue a cease & desist order or whatever the local equivalent so the site will disappear under threat of legal action for using the Fender trademark in the name.
Yes now I have looked a little deeper its all a bit to easy. As for ishibashi, now I've found the english site!! it looks great, but how many guitarists are there in Japan? they've got so much stock!
 14. Been looking at ishibashi, but it seems quite diff to work out the finer details ie is it new or used, but japanfender is quite easy and they seem to be all new, whether they are cheaper I haven't quite worked out yet.
 15.
where did you get this? how much? Give it to me... Ill give you a fuzz pedal and a wah...
ok, but add a 1/4 of Pear Drops and a Strawberry Mivi... Think it was a car boot, it was £25, must get round to using it.
 16.
some porn here.... http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk/turnt...re_gallery.html John Mitchell has sadly gone but the company are still around
Dam, such a fantastic engineer and real soul too..
 17. Well if its not to late, and don't want to sound funny but the CS is a copy of a bass thats not really close and we're not Chris Squire, so I would sell this. But I always say never ever sell something to buy something else, long time ago I sold a 1969 Jazz bass for £200 to buy a car, it was 100 percent mint, but sonically it was the biggest piece of turd going, now its worth loads ( and the tosspot who would pay todays money for one couldn't even tell.) Get a loan, buy a new bass, value will outstrip interest eventually, keep all your old stock or sell one when you don't need to.
 18. Very odd the whole thing, they either know exactly what they're doing or are complete asses, been years with a broken pot?, strange sepia photos n out of focus etc etc, looking at history did our German friend win, the guy who sells the parts from guitars for big money...
 19. I just loved it until I bought an Orb. My hearing is not so good also, and can't hear a thing unless its through some Ls35a's ( same Kef drivers as the 104 I think). Good luck with the sale...
 20.
Have you taken this to Vintage and Rare guitars (Denmark Street) to be valued? I reckon it's worth more than £900. I'd love to own this bass. Good luck with the sale mate, you've got a piece of history right there.
!!!!!!!! you will have a piece of history until it hits Denmark st, then they'll just totally demoralize you and you'll be on the tube home with no bass and £450 quid
 21. Flea wins on recreational substance's consumed and still able to play bass.
 22. Ok, what you need is a Coil Winder, I bought this one years ago, just love things like this, I had intended to wind my own pup's but have'nt got round to it yet. Basically the reel goes on the top beam and the wire goes over the jocky wheel then through the tufnel bias clamp and onto your pup base, which is fixed between the spinner and the steady point, it has forward and reverse, a counter and various gears.
 23. Nice one, I had the Clockwork Orange version ''Hydraulic Reference'' I think, perfect for hearing all those lovely bass lines n go well with the Kef 104's that were on here not long back.
 24.
yeah quite. About the same as Kiwis if you have tried that. Possibly a bit heavier actually.
Are you sure there wasn't a bass in the box already Seriously, not sure of values on these but, if the guys not sure, there may be a good deal, or is someone already on their way over there.
 25.
An aquaintance of mine tried selling a totally original 60s Telecaster "on commission" in Andys a few years ago. They phoned him up about 2 months down the line saying "Great news, we've sold the neck"... Obviously some practical joke, but he went up there and sure enough, they had actually removed the neck without his permission and sold it to someone, they offered him 200 quid for it, then had the cheek to ask to hold on to the rest of the guitar as it "might be worth parting it out now" That was a 2 grand guitar even then. Words fail me...
Jeeeezzz , buy a cheap tele neck and stick it where it hurts, then hang him up in the window on a hot sunny day.
