I've never seen a 4001 finger board separate from the neck because of too much tension, it was a perfectly capable neck design and as far as I know my 72 ( these have the thinnest necks ) has had 45/105 round's all it's life. As you say bad adjustment is the problem and once the nuts have canted/bent back far enough they won't adjust and it's down to the laws of levers and any attempt to tighten will just force the finger board away

Before you go swapping out parts, are you sure the pups are wired the right way around, a Jazz works like a humbucker when both are selected, if one pup is wired backwards it will sound thin, only way to know is to swap one pup around and try it.

Not brilliant shots, but this is my 79 4001, mint but for the frets on the A string a usual problem for the 4001.

The new 2010/11 4003's are said to be really excellent, nice neck's etc, now they have the full width inlays and the Walnut wings, you're looking at a 71 or earlier to get that, the new 4003 is now a real 4001 and they're well priced too, with strong magnets they're going to kick out a lot more than a 4001.
Nemmind the neck.. Alex's facial expressions in the guitar breaks - almost like he just woke up and 'crumbs, there's alot of people in here'! Imagine LVS becoming second nature, proper classic rock. thanks for the link!
Alex did say it was a pretty weird dream, he's just reliving it....

Gigged a Burman 100w combo many times, fantastic sound...

Be great to know too. My brother just had his Explorer refretted by Morgan Custom Guitars in Kington, well enough to say it's the worst re fret I've ever seen and how this guy manages to make a complete guitar just amazes me......

Up for sale is my Trace all Valve Twin Valve, these are the first of the Trace run of Valve gear and really are the dog's. Creamy Valve tones plus the amazing GP7 Graphic. It's 115 watts and has outputs for 4 or 8 Ohms. It's in fantastic condition and really there are no issues, it's had an easy life. Comes with original soft cover. I would like £350 for it, which is what I paid a few years ago. Reason for sale is cash flow, almost as soon as I bought it I found a V8, so I only actually gigged this a couple of times. I could send this by courier, which I guess would be about £25.

Felt washers under the strap button, then strap over the button and finish off with Grolsch rubbers, they are very cheap and good strap locks.

I have an SVT that was made in 1970, basically the ultimate SVT and the similarity to the Micro VR is uncanny. That's sound that is, the size and weight is another thing, side by side is just

Well I've kind of read the whole thing and the following has been said from the start, ''it's a fake'', but you don't seem to see that, ''it's a bargain for a fake'', but you don't see that either. Not happy? stick it on ebay with A BIN £250 and get your money back and let someone else get a bargain.
Prior to me buying the amp it was fitted with a matched set of GE6550a's. Now google these and they have a ridiculous price tag! But do I replace these with a matched set of kt88s,which is what the amp was designed to take, will it make that much difference, sound? volume? clarity? reliability?
, unless you can find a 60's/70's set of KT88's, otherwise sell them to me for my SVT

Never Black, here's mine a late 70 and the one in the restoration pic's is about the same period as mine ( both have a black chassis, which is mid 70 on), def not a 69, it would need a silver chassis and a valve relay next to the preamp connection block, like the one below. Mine got it's grill cloth sprayed black at some point and I paint stripped it as best I could, so it looks quite dark. The actual cloth is made up of black vertical strands and horizontal black, Grey and twisted blue and silver strands ( the silver goes gold with age). Try some paint stripper on the back, don't worry I had thinners and carbon Tet too on mine, it's really tough stuff. I would do a google search as my Jazz gave problems when I changed pickups, I just reversed the wiring on one and all was fine, when both pup's are selected they should act like a Humbucker too. Or have you dropped a bit of solder into the pot itself?.

Looks like it's got a 4003 bridge pup surround , although the rest looks correct.
