1.
Geddy Lee
That'll be the one he cut the horns off, now that's early. Did sound very Geddy and not so 'P'.
2. Phil Lynott, very 'P' sound. Geezer Butler, although I loved the sound with the 4001 too. Pete Way, UFO, solid.
3. Don't take them to our friends in Demark st, as you may not get the same ones back. I would call someone like Wizard Pickups and post them.
4. None, you'll need to drill out the holes and plug them with dowels in the same wood and the neck and in the same grain direction, these would be glued in with animal glue. That's a big job, but worth it, although if the new holes don't intrude on the originals then just leave them open. Some fillers can be very strong and won't take screws without splitting/cracking.
5. If you are going to start learning picking, make sure you use up and down strokes.
6. If that's not the case and it seems ok, then it's the string cut on the nut, basically the string could be sat at the back of the nut, where it should be sat at the very front edge, making your first fret longer by a nut width, check there is an actual angle in the slots, if not then you'll need to file the back of the slot, so it peaks/rises to the front.
7. Excellent news. All early SVT's have silver grills and 69's have an extra valve which acts as a standby/safety, just next to the preamp connection socket, these were omitted in early 70.
8. "Goodbye"
9. I've always played it like Fraser, open A continuous with the highs right up the neck, nobody ever noticed, until I got the EB3 now everybody says ''You're the first band we've heard ever play it right'' .
10.
I have one exactly like that and have been looking for another for years. Mine's made by "Stones Music". Don't they exist any more. Well I was wrong... here you go...
Excellent find, and cheap too. I was just about to post saying Stones Music seem to be no more.
11.
You mean this? I can't find them either. Used to buy one whenever I saw one in a shop. Let me know!
Yep, that's the thing, they have been mentioned on here, but can't remember where.
12. Been looking for a leather strap and I've seen them before but just can't find a link, it's a strap made with lots of cut pieces where one interlinks with the next, I think they are fairly old school. Been searching google and can't find a thing! any ideas?
13. For Japanese instruments, this is the best one I've found and it also deals with the newer confusing MIJ numbers. HTTP://kenji-cij.blogspot.com/2009/06/fend...al-numbers.html
14. Love these new Ric's with the full width fret markers, but what has happened to the scratchplate corners and screws, looks like its been designed with a computer program orrid .
15. Yes, Total scam, I saw this last month and sent a message and could I come down with some cash (it was £1500 then and he was in London), he replied that he wasn't available but if I want to send the cash to his bank, it's 100% refundable if I don't like it. So I mail again and say I'm in London with some cash, he replies that he's with the Bass at his parents house for xmas, oh and that's The Isle of Man!!!, but I can still send cash to his bank for a 100% refund etc. Now it's gone down by £100 as if he thinks someone will say WTF and send the cash I did a search on ebay and it did sell on ebay last year for proper money, the pic's were the same ones as these.
16. Don't forget the 70-72 Slot Heads, no neck dive here at all, in fact it's just alround awesome.

Prices!

A new price increase from Fender has added to the melee, if this year isn't going to bad enough already. Watch this thread through the year for more unbelievable hikes.
18. Keeping on a Fender theme, John Paul Jones Zep tones, all of them.
19. No crime, at least it survived, my 72 Jazz needed incinerating as it was the deadist dead piece of junk going, Fender needed suing. Saying that mine was mint and probably has survived in the same state, pitty the poor sucker who owns it now and plays it .
20. Roger swinging his Tele, but gets caught out by the hidden guitarist at end of the song throwing some impro finishes.
21.
Good call on the Schaller, looks nice, might go on my new build after all, I'll check them out. While we are on the subject, anyone used those hugely expensive individual string hipshot through bridges?
I would check them out first, a few points on not getting a 3d, to many moving parts which distance the resonant transfer, I had one on my Ric for years and it progressively got more and more dead sounding, I was changing strings far too often and wondering why they were going off so quickly, I found that all these moving parts were loosening up and vibrating, so the resonance wasn't getting to the body, putting on a Badass was astonishing and I hardly ever change strings. That lateral movement is a pain when changing strings, as when you pull the string out it spins the roller and you've lost your string spacing, this roller too sits on a threaded bar that sits in a channel. Though here's a tip for you 3d's, loosen all strings raise them from the bridge and put a piece of sellotape over the rollers, they're now locked in place until you get the new ones on. I would go with a Badass 11 these are not so mass heavy, the Badass 1 is the heavy one, or a nice Fender style one for the transfer. Problem with the original Fender type, is with low tension strings like TI's and playing hard the saddles float sideways, whether this actually matters.
22. Try a search on Talkbass, there are many discussions on this and probably some up to date with newest on the market tubes, me personally I would take some time (and lots cash) and find nos 70's tubes.
23.
i did to, they didn't use goodmans though did they? also didn't use that colour. I still think matamp
Ah, now I notice Hiwatts all have a heavy ( double thickness ) bull nose front edge like Marshall cabs.
24. +1 on the Matamp, looks like an extension cab for the guitar combo, nice piece. Not many manufacturers bothered to paint inside their cabs too. Edit, I did initially think Hiwatt and looking close I think it's a Hiwatt, notice the white piping over the sides, Matamps go around the cab and the Hiwatt like yours goes across the top into the front.
25. As soon as I read ''Muse sound'', I know we are talkin rubbish. Never seen a bass player with so many basses and only one sound. FFS dig in, and make your own sound.
