To be fair though,I know that if someone came upto me and said "That was cool, can I have a go?",I'd probably say no. It's not about copping an attitude, but right after I've finished playing,I don't feel like teaching or letting someone I don't know play my bass.
Or, ''There's plenty more of those on our CD, here.''
Hey, I'm a bass player, and despite my age of 18, I have been in many professional gigging and recording situations. Would you consider me, or is the age gap too big? Alec
I would contact the band yourself, as I have a doubt the band be looking at Basschat now.

Ashdown Five Fifteen MiniRig Bass Stack VS Ampeg SVT Micro VR + cab
SS73 replied to MikanHannille's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have a pair of the 210AV Ampeg cabs and they really have a fantastic vintage sound, although I use them with a 70 SVT, I have used other amps and they still give a great sound. Ashdown I have no idea. -
My main gigging rig now, 70 SVT with new 210AV's and yes the head is very heavy, it's way ott for the pub, but I just can't go without the tone. The head is actually just balanced on the speakers as it is physically bigger.
Fair point, actually - you need to look at the huge full-size images to see clearly, but that's a proper shonky job. What a strange way to do it though - you'd think masking the binding, or scraping off the overspray with the edge of a sharp blade would be a damn sight easier than trying (and broadly failing!) to re-bind the whole bass!
Looking again at the picture of the jack sockets, it seems that perhaps the binding was kept on the bass, as its showing binding beneath paint!, it just gets worse.
It's also correct for all the old through-neck copies I've seen, apart from a peculiar Italian-made Gherson. Apropos of nothing at all! J.
Wrong end of stick guys, click on Bloodaxe's post and it shows a very odd looking binding, which has been off the bass and glued back on over the top of the over spray, basically it's stickin out like a sore whotsit.
Is the owner expecting U-Boat attacks? Dazzle camouflage
, good ploy, I hear Phil Lynott's Dazzle worked well for post gig fun.

Woh, well it wasn't me, wonder if it was someone here.

Seems a good price too compared to our Kings road or ''Music (rip me off please) Ground''

Don't dismiss the cabs though, they really are great sounding and have a superb vintage tone, I think the Micro is the problem, take a look on Talkbass they have many discussions on the whole rig, the general theme ends on excellent cabs, but amp is just not quite there.
It defo is not a sound I like............... and its his eq i guess, but that is my preference!
4001 just isn't for everyone.
-
Presence, definitely, although I haven't actually gigged mine yet, at practices I've found that one on top of the other really would work in tight small gig's and our drummer's noted that it's nice to hear the definition as opposed to the lows, may not work for all places though. Orange Terror, very growl I think.
Geddy splits his signal i think, leaves his lows clean and distorts the top end. I hate bass distortion myself but if you are going to do it i would try and do this i think low end distortion on bass sound yuk!!!!!
I think you are generalizing and confusing a lot here, Geddy doesn't need to distort anything, it's the way he plays Or take Squire, lows are distorted highs are clean n that sounds far from yuk!!

I've just bought two Ampeg 210AV cabs, which are sealed 200w 8 ohm, two cabs together 4 ohms. They have a very vintage tone, I'm using them with my early SVT and it really growls, 4001 and rotosounds though. I'm so impressed that I may buy another.
Just my opinion but i think the v4 was the gem of that lot, the v6 and v8 are very heavy, and dare i say it overkill for most things these days (400watts valve power) and the cabinet of the amps are made out of rice paper they just fall to bits. 6 and 8 kt88 matched is quite a lot of money these days as they need pretty good ones! v4 is plent loud enough for anything and they are a bit more plentiful and more reasonably priced. I thought these where the nuts at one time until i heard a matamp!
+1 on the V4, for the reasons you mention and the V4 and V8 have the better pre amp and the valve compressor. Oh and bringing Matamp into the equation is just unfair.
-
Interesting, my Burman is very clear and more so than the SVT, but the V8 just hasn't got the signal clarity of the other two, perhaps muddy was the wrong word.
-
I have an SVT and a V8, I think the V8 is the muddy one, a little restricted, where as the SVT is just clear and bright. Are you sure you didn't have a SVT classic, as the SVT VR is a different amp, a reissue of the original SVT.
-
The seller may even do a dirty on his mate when he finds he has actually won it and wants paying.
-
That Zoom/enlarge option really does help, after all you don't want to get caught out.
-
Home studio we sometimes use, they have an 80's Carlsboro tranny combo with 18'' folded horn, actually sounds ok.
-
Try another cab perhaps, I've just bought two SVT 210AV cabs and I'm absolutely lovin my new sound and all my amps, it's changed my whole sound, I put them up against my late 90's Trace 410 and I feel sick that I've been playing through that all this time and not even realized it sounded so crap.
There is that! Also it would require his endorsement & he's always said he never actually enjoyed playing Ricks, it was only ever about the sound. Not the best publicity for RIC. J.
Ah, I had thought it was RIC that was the problem, but perhaps not, back to my original post another addition that adds cred, on his 4080 he replaced the 6 string pups with Gibson PAFs, that's quite major surgery.
