1. What Model is it.
2. AH150, superb amp and one of the first no compromise Trace amps, really out performs most of their following models, used mine for years and it never let me down, good luck with the sale.

YES

Just been listening to Parallels, Squire showing how to get all over the neck and still make the whole song flow, love it. Close to the edge is my fav album though.
4.
more is more and more is more awesome.
Exactly, and mine is an original version that has another 10lb's more weight and oodles more soul, all you lightweights, get some mates
5. I guess you're in a one man band then...
6. Always had a soft spot for ''Explorers'' and what an awesome piece this is, if only it was passive best of luck with the sale, in this revival of yuk ''Thunderbirds''.
7. To get any versions of your pre amp valves to get dirty you will need to increase your signal, ie turn up the gain, this will also make your original pre valve get dirty, it's then a question of finding the type you like. But don't confuse harsh and brittle over smooth and warm, the former is the nature of all new and Chinese valves which have no depth, find an old Telefunken or Mullard these are smooth but will give more high freq's than any new version.
8.
I only have a wee twin valve! I dont like being in here with all the bigger boys
I have a Twin too, at small gig's I just imagine it's 4x the size, ooooorrrrrrrroooowwwww
9.
Thanks for the info - great to see others have an interest in this company. Over weekend I changed the soldanoEL34's for Winged 'C' EL34's - marginal, though noticable, change of charachter. It is 'crisper', less backgorund noise, and seems slightly louder, although this could be due to a cleaner output stage with more definition, therefore the speake is getting a different signal though I have tried to keep the same amp settings. However, I also changed the Mazda ECC81 and all four Maxda ECC83's for a Harma ECC81 and four Electro Harmonix ECC83's and THAT really made a difference. The sound is now highly articulate more 'lively' and I get a lot more gain. This now reminds me of a Randall or MESA sound but do I like it? Well I'm happy with the change at the moment but I know I have lost some of the original charachter. Still I have the original tubes as spare if I get fed up with it.
On changing the Output valves you should set the bias to suit the new valves, to low the sound will become brittle, to high and the valves will cook. On the pre amp side, Greg designed the amp around the Mazda's and unless yours are tired, those new ones will not give the warmth of the Mazda's and will appear crisp and more lively and at the expense of its soul ( take it to gig like that and watch peoples teeth grind).
10. Watched the whole thing and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I'm not a fan I can't help but respect the guy, very talented and totally professional. Did think the bass player was a little stiff though. Glad to hear he wasn't playing a real Fender as I would end up eating my hat after swearing you couldn't get one to sound better.
11.
I'm in valve heaven with this Denis Cornell all tube head.
Thats awesome, great to see some rare stuff,....... on that note here's ''some run of the mill'' . 12.
'Le Freak' by Chic brilliant song to jam on, and I've not heard many people do it.
Just looked on youtube and Slash joins them on stage, must be cool.

14.
Tie for first place with me, both Fenders and both Jazzes MIJ Geddy Lee Jazz: just sounded puny as hell and the neck was so thin it was unplayable. Not a bass, just a long guitar really. MIA Jazz, late 90's. Shocking QC and tone. Described as 'rattly' by my then bandmates. Could not be set up. Both probably explain my ongoing negativity towards Jazzes! C
+1, I had a totally mint 73 Sunburst rosewood fret Jazz, just could never get a good sound out, the whole bass had no soul, in fact it was the deadist lump of wood i've ever had, sold it on for £200 and i couldn't give a stuff what its worth now. 20 years later I thought to give a jazz another go, forgetting the last one, I bought a Geddy Jazz, it all came flooding back, it certainly was not a bad piece of wood in fact it rang well but the bridge pup was the normal lifeless/souless sound I remembered, what an awful bass.
15. As far as I can remember, Neck pup was through supa fuzz and into a Marshall, Bridge pup clean into (various), but louder. We are talking Close to the Edge period though.
16. I think the association with the TBird and rock is confused with the shape being close to the Explorer, that I would say is a Rock bass.
17.
you think fat fingers sound good? You should try playing with your cock!
Didn't Peter Gabriel's bassist do something like that or was it a dried one he used, anyway it did sound pretty good. Back to digits... Andreas Segovia, more Cumberlands than Hot Dogs,
18. The original TE valves are just cooking chinese rubbish, you need to find some NOS or good used Mullard, Telefunken, Brimar, GE or Mazda, Mullards and Telefunken are expensive but well worth it. There are no valves manufactured today that will even come close to the above, PERIOD. With these valves you will notice that the sound becomes less harsh and brittle, it will have a smooth warm edge, but your sound stage will be the whole spectrum and full of life, that can be quite different at first, stick with it for half an hour and then put the originals back in, it won't be long before you bin them. The lack of treble could mean something else or the TE's are possibly funked.
19.
Really? Ok, you play it a few times..... Oh where did that ding come from? It was mint before. Big wedge off the value for that. Get it refinished? Forget it, you'll lose even more money. Play it a bit more.......Oh it's stopped working. Turns out a piece of solder has broken in the electrics and it will need resoldering. There's another wedge off the value right there. If I bought a vintage fender where money was no object, it would lose value just by me looking at it. I'd be scared to take it out of the case.
But it's money no object, in this case I would buy a mint vintage Fender, distress it, replace all the old electrics so it sounded like it did when it was new and then gig it, Hard.
20. I would suggest loosen the strings and actually pull the saddle unit out and familiarize yourself with the workings, the problem may be the adjusting screw on that saddle.
21. Happening more often at the moment, £700-£900 will get you a 4003 these days.
22. I think it may be the price, quite high in present climate, its more in the pre 73 territory, all the previous listings here on 4001's should show.
23. It should have got that price but it only had 3 strings.
24. Funny how things change and we forget the best and the worst, the Burman was the next step up from a Marshall and in the 70's we thought that the Wem Selmer etc was just crap, now the later are cult, hell even the Carlsboro is up there Oh and I forgot Orange, only ever used for Top of the Pops. Since getting a Burman, I haven't used my V8.
25. Actually on reflection I think you're right.
