Heard this on the radio this morning and the Bass really sounded great, distorted Precision/Ampeg/Marshall at a guess, could be totally wrong.

Are some, dragged up that are already sold
This could turn a lot like the neodymium sound thread. So many other factors going on.
Don't read into the other factors then, it's only my opinion anyway, but, all I wanted to say was, I think it would be a worthy project and given that with some care and attention to detail a really good amp would result, if not better.
-
Can't really explain, but it doesn't sound as open as other valve amps I have. The V8 does have a very good grounding layout though and is very quiet.
-
It's got to sound better. My biggest problem with the V8 is the fact it's on a PCB, it really does show in the sound and I know that if it was hard wired it would bring the amp to life. Another problem is the rise in treble on switching from channel 1 to 2. Not sure on the transformers but the rest of the components are just cooking versions.
Hi all... Fourth my crazy Warwick Stryker for around £2400.00
That is just so refreshing and the most amazing top too, fantastic, if I had the cash I would stare at it more than play it.
They are amazing basses I waited 11 years to get mine, an Oct 1992 4003 in Fireglo my favorite bass.
Is that the bass in your avatar, it has the neck pup in the position of a pre 74?, nice glo though.
I want one too ...
Me too, and compared to the 4001's it's got a heads start already, tuner's that will work and bridge that will do the job sonically. Looking at the pic with the guy, you can see the shorter scale. Whats this all about??, is it a copyright thing perhaps.
-
I think the year of an item is an Americanism we are taking on board here, I used to have two 4001's and a Fender Jazz, but now I'm referring to them as a 69 a 79 and a 71 , am I hoping that it will put more value on the conversation I'm having now they're sold. Ok with a Chevy or Mustang, cos these were changing almost every year, but it seems now '' my 56 Chevy '' adds kudos, where Don Mclean just drove his Chevy to the Levee.

Pot's on what?. If its a valve amp then its the Pre valves, pull them out and clean the pins. If its a Bass, its possibly the pup that has gone microphonic.
don't think they do any valves that have higher gain than a 12ax7
Trying not to confuse the thread, but ecc807, has the most gain, heaters need rewiring though, nice to hear one in a Marshall. www.pamandandy.demon.co.uk/valves/ecc80x/ecc80x.html Back to thread, take a look on ebay for Mazda valves, if you can find old stock ones they are not as expensive as the rest and are really good valves made in england too.
do you mean 12bh7? lowering the preamp gain isn't gonna make it do more watts, just change the tone and make it break up later on the dial
70's SVT , v1,3 & 4 =12dw7. v2 12ax7(ecc83). A 12dw7 is an ecc83 on anode 1 and an ecc82 on anode 2, but because they are not heard of over here ( even though Mullard made mine ), people just put ecc83's in the pre's on the svt. So like i said, most breakup earlier. 12bh7's are in the power stage.
I agree regarding headroom and ultra clean high volume gigging situations. I had a 1974 SVT which was wonderful but got 'gritty' at relatively low volume to the Boogie.
Most of these SVT's are running ecc83's in the pre amp and it sounds like yours was too, with the correct 12dw7's in there they go a lot further without breaking up.

I would love to see and hear this at a gig, superb.

As long as its not an 800 watt amp into a 100 W cab you'll be fine, plug her in and go for it, I bet you can't stay in the same room at full volume. This is a great site for them... www.ampegv4.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=ampegv4&page=1
Hi SS73, I've just 'acquired' the amp & speakers in the picture recently. I bought the 1048 speakers last week on e-bay for £93. My head looks the same as your AH150, which I was given by the guitarist in our band in return for some repair work on his Flying V, so my complete rig cost me just over £100 once I had been to Pontefract to get the 4x10 cab. The head has certainly had to work for a living by the looks of it, as there are cigarette burn marks on the top! I was wondering if you have any more info on the head, such as manuals or even circuit diagrams, as I have been told that there is a problem with mine, but it has always worked fine for me. I wouldn't mind something, just in case. I have looked on the Trace website, but I think this model is a bit old for them and don't seem to publish circuit diagrams. The only manual I found was the AH150 SMC, which is a newer version. Thanks, GrumbleStiltskin
Hi Grumble, Nice find, hopefully you should be able to sort the problem and you'll have one of Trace's finest quality amps. I do have the manual, but not the circuit diagram. I will look into getting you a copy of it, Pm me your email and I will send it over. Cheers, Sean.

Changed strings to Rotosound roundwound to replace Flatwounds it came with , so it wasn't SH that inspired your purchase or the fact the Flats would be easier on your sons soft digits.
The grub screws on my Badass I are just a tad too short. Does anyone know where I can get longer ones?
The Badass 1 is the highest of the bunch, are you sure that there are not other issues with your bass. But anyway, as a matter of course ( not a height issue) I replaced the Badass 1 screws with brass ones I had lying around, although I needed to drill and tap new BA threads for these to fit it kept the whole sonic flow going instead of dead steel screws, plus I could get them to bind just right and keep the whole set rigid.

'' Solid CNC machined Aluminium'' so what!. Although it would be nice to see him jigsaw out the holes and use a nice old Edwards folder to make the chassis
-
The flicking one finger technique is not the most powerful sound producer, so I think J had his volume set quite loud and this together he could remain very consistent. I have noticed he doesn't dampen the higher strings though seems just the E and A.
If it sells it'll more & likely end up hanging on a wall in bar in LA...so never get played again anyway. A sad end for a great bass that's been played on some great records.
The case would be best hung up, leaving the bass to carry on playing, perhaps.
