You may also have noticed he damped the strings with the side of his thumb, I have tried this , its something to do with having extra long thumbs, cos unless you push the bass away and back until you're standing over the neck its impossible and of course there's the actual technique too.

Measure the Ohms yourself with an Ohm meter, my 410, 8 Ohm cab is actually 6.2 Ohms. Your cab may be higher or lower, but when you know you can make a better choice, which way to go.

Actually from a thread on Talkbass, there's also some very neat other stuff too. Ric 30 inch cab on page 3, two of them if you like www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=609814&highlight=show+valve+amps&page=3

Having not read any of the posts in answer to your question and jumping straight in with mine:- I rate them ''equal'', and equal last on my list of fave Bassists. Hope this helps.

There was such a thing as a Ric cab with a 32 inch speaker get down low.
Is it? I just had a look at Rickenbacker's archive and it looks right to me: Seems the same to me.
But if that's the brochure for 75 then its most likely a pic of the 74 models, 74 was the year they moved the pup, but then you never know.

All true, I think the fact you can advertise something and be blase about it, is just annoying, then again someone will probably buy it. I had also wanted to know about the nut area and any poss separation, but nah, i'll move on.
Oh, man I've gone all funny .I had one of these for years but the mains transformer burnt out and the guy who had it rewound didn't do it to the right spec amd it was never the same again. I wish to god I hadn't sold it though. This one looks a real find. Where'd you find him? I feel a bit sick Shug
Once I plugged it in, it all came flooding back and I haven't looked back. You really need to get one again, I bought this on ebay US and all went very smoothly, shipped it with DHL and it was here in 36 hrs . This one here went cheap recently and looked much better than the description, bet it just needed some new valves.. //cgi.ebay.com/AMPEG-SVT-HEAD-70s-PARTS-REPAIR-NON-WORKING-PROJECT-/200463734622?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eac91d75e

Nice 4001, looks real clean etc, but the neck pup is in the wrong place for 75. So I ask the seller for a pic of the under scratchplate areas, '' Thanks for your message - sorry, all the photos I have are on my eBay listing - I've had a TON of interest in this bass, pls don't wait too long if it's what you want.'' it might be what I want, but if you don't give me the info I ask for then what should I do?, just buy it because there's a ton of interest?. Anyone had experience with this seller? cgi.ebay.co.uk/1975-Rickenbacker-4001-Genuine-Vintage-USA-Bass-Guitar-/220597441281?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item335ca1d301

It sounds like you may need to have the neck shimed, the Badass may not go as low as the original but that would be too low anyway. If you do buy another make of bridge the problem could still be there, shim the neck.

MATAMP, or wait for the new Burman ( this could be a wait though, guitars come first ), Or as I have done, find a nice 70's SVT and be very content.
Serial Number: 70468.306.200
Ok, 70468 is the type number. 306 is its number of the run ie 306th one. 200 is date, the 1st digit = the quarter of the year, and the last two digits are the year. So you have 2nd quarter of 2000. 301= 3rd quarter 2001 402= 4th quarter 2002 and so on.
Also it's totally unpalatable without plenty of tonic water and lots of ice
Plus if the glass has been washed with Fairy Liquid it will have traces of Formaldehyde making it quite a cocktail.
Carbon tetrachloride is a banned substance since 2002, mainly due to it's ozone-depleting powers, and that it's carcinogenic and can cause liver and kidney damage. Apart from that, it's fine.
Well, whatever Brake Cleaner has in it then, it must be some different compound now.

What is needed is removal of oils and grease etc from the string, Iso alc'l will do that but it's not cheap, Meths is cheap but won't do the job as well. What you need is Carbon Tetrachloride and a cheap way to buy it is in the form of Brake Cleaner. Clean fast and strong, oh and it will also remove all the oils from your skin too, but you will have clean strings in seconds.

Can we form an orderly queue, Not sure on numbers made, but I think not many and they have a certain mystique. But, Twin Valve £250-400, Quattra £350-550, guessing Hexa starts at £500 and on, plus also the rarity value. If you like the GP11 pre then you can't go wrong, they really did get those pre's spot on, I love my Twin and its GP7 pre.

Ever get the feeling you're the only person with an opinion?
Luckily we all like different things, so it's never dull. Like for instance, I hate Rickenbackers. They're lifeless planks to me. I've only ever found one Precision I really covet & I think heavy rigs (anything more than 18kg per piece) are ridiculous! But luckily there'll be someone here who thinks the total opposite to me. Variety being the spice of life and all that.
Luckily there is someone to clarify your point, I hope i'm not alone on this one though. I have owned 3 Fender Jazz's and sold each one, as I hated the sound of the bridge pup, just has no go, no anything, love the necks though, so I posted this once on a JBass discussion and guess what, I was the only one. -
Awful website though: I hate any site that plays music the instant it loads, and ones that beep when you hover over a clickable item. It's all a bit 'my first website', Grrrr
And the email isn't working too, lets hope this is because they are concentrating on building amps.
Won't lack of partridge transformers and Mullard/Gold Lion valves be a major hit?
I think there are people that can wind as well as Partridge, going to come down to costs though.
My gigging amp back in the late 70's and throughout the 80's was an SVT - such great amps. But I just cannot forget how heavy they are!
There were many things I had forgotten about them and true the weight wasn't one of them, everything else good about them far outweighed the weight problem, although its a two man lift now, without question. I'll get some outside pic's up just as soon as I've finished fiddling and playing through the thing.

Great news I think, http://www.burmanamp.co.uk/ . They don't say much about the Pro 4000 but wouldn't that just be awesome if they started making those again , fingers crossed.
-
Yes, they are 40 years old but as tough as old boots really. I tested them earlier today and all are testing good with many hours left, the two driver 12BH7's were the lowest in test for goodness, so I will keep an eye on these.

those sad days are over and I'm trying not to give myself a hard time for selling the first one. I really can't wait to get this gigged, although the volume won't get as high as we used to play, I don't care. Linden NJ 1970 Ampeg SVT, untouched and as far as I can see very little use, all the original factory tubes including the ultimate 6550's made by Tung Sol in NJ, just heaven. Here's a few internal pic's
