both the purple and white wires have become loose and are no longer attached to the output of my corvette $$. i'm considering repairing it myself, but i don't know which wire attaches to which pin. the longest pin has the black wire attached to it, does anyone know which colours go with the short and medium pins? (or shall i just take down to the gallery and have someone with a bit more knowledge than me deal with it.. typical that this should happen on a sunday when everything is closed)

just spotted a few vids up on tc electronic's youtube page now, built in tuner, semi-parametric eq's and programmable presets appear to be the main 'revolutionary' features, but it looks ok, i like tc's studio stuff so it's interesting to see them making something dedicated for bass. i have no opinion on this as such, just thought it would be interesting to point out the vids. +1 on Mike Watt, also Rob Wright of Nomeansno, they're the reason i started playing bass. check this out, very young and early NMN.. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7mj9FhrlEh0

I'm reluctantly considering selling my Markbass Mini 121P, we have some gigs coming up so I need to look around for something bigger, unfortunately I can't afford to keep it if I decide to go ahead and buy new kit. It's in mint condition and comes with a cover, for a sale I'm looking for around £500, and for trade I'm after a decent 212 cab and/or a decent head, feel free to drop me a line and let me know if you're after one of these and have anything to trade, GK/Genz especially but I'm open to suggestions. Can update this post with pics if you need to see it, let me know, also if you're anywhere near London or Brighton I'll consider delivering it to you at no extra charge.

i made this for myself a while ago when i started learning, simple and stupid-proof (which is what i needed at the time)..

cool, thanks for the replies, i'll definately give a few different cabs a go at the weekend, i'm not convinced by the Mini's tonality on its' own but it'll be interesting to see how things sound once there's another speaker attached.
-
I'm considering ways to upgrade, and i'm trying to work out if adding another cab to the Markbass Mini will improve the overall sound quality, or if it will just add nothing but more volume to the whole thing. I know some people are not too impressed with the speaker that the Mini comes with, would adding another cab improve things, or would it be better just to sell up and go a different route, seperate head / cab etc? I'm looking for a richer and more energetic, 'wider' sound, but as this thing is already loud as hell, volume is not the issue, it's the quality of sound and overall tonality i'd like to improve.

nice one, good suggestions so far, didn't know about scar, it's just down the road from me, although it looks like they're in danger of getting shut down going by what it says on their site (http://www.scarstudios.com/home/). does anyone know much about transmission studios in camden? they have a small room for £8 an hr, although it looks like they're relocating. i'm not sure if there's been a thread about this already, but i'm on the lookout for a decent rehearsal room in north / central london, i know for a fact there's loads of unknown little no-frills spaces out there perfect for hiring for a few hours a week, does anyone have any good suggestions? the cheaper the better. thanks.
project_c I could give you all the burb about: your sound engineer ( me too) just hearing bass and problems with standing sound waves creating low level feedback for him as your bass rebounds off hard surfaces at practice (why does he not just mic you if you have a sweet rig and turn the others down), your drummer can't hear you cos he gets his head down and goes for it and is suffering brain damage from loud noise and your lead guitarist having optional deafness (that's guitarists I'm afraid) let's cut to the chase...........you really have a case of gas that is growing by the day and you are trying to persuade yourself to ask Santa for something new ........ !! No offence, only teasing...........been the sound man for God knows how many practices and gigs and you should remember that you need to trust what he/she hears out front and NOT what you hear - even if you have good monitoring .....you are probably projecting far more and far cleaner than you realise.....
ok you have a fair point there about Santa, i must admit... but i assure you, it's all for the sake of the band and the music we play, as opposed to just wanting something nice and new and shiny. (honest)

thanks for all the replies. some really interesting suggestions there. the Markbass Mini 121P i use gets plenty of volume and ok tone, but i think the small speaker presents problems because of the size of the room we rehearse in. the response is very uneven, the drummer and guitarist both complain that i'm not loud enough, but the percussion / electronics guy complains that all he hears is bass - and i hear wildly different things depending on where i'm standing / sitting. so now i'm trying to decide whether adding another speaker instead of turning the volume up might solve the problem by giving a more even overall sound, or to instead buy a seperate head and a larger cab. difficult to know what's right, any ideas?
Eden Metro combo.... Outstanding if not a little heavy
i just checked those out, they look super good. i'm assuming the tonal difference between one of these and the Markbass Mini combo (121p) would be immense? price-wise they're very expensive for a combo but if the tone is really that good, i can understand why.

some cool suggestions here, keep them coming..

i'm curious about what you all use for band practice (NOT home practice), and if you're happy with the sound you're getting. if your sound cuts through the guitars and drums without losing definition, and you're getting a rich, well rounded and nicely driven tone without drowning the whole room in sub frequencies, AND you can fit your rig into your car, i really want to hear what you use. i'm looking around for something portable (i can't leave any gear at the rehearsal room, so everything has to fit into the boot of my car), but with a large, punchy and defined 'proper' sound. is this even possible with a small-ish rig, or do I need to start thinking about big cabs and decent heads? as it is, i currently have 2 choices - use the 'vintage' Peavey combo at the rehearsal room, which sounds like a depressed frog doing curry farts in a lukewarm pond, or take my Markbass Mini along. While the Markbass is certainly loud enough, it's definition and sound quality is of course limited by the size of its' speaker, and i feel like my sound is compromised because of this during band practice. so it's time to look around for something bigger and better, i'm open to all suggestions, regardless of price for now, i'd just like to hear some opinions and ideas. cheers

I'm selling a high quality NEC projector that I used a while ago for some gigging and performance backdrops and visuals, I know it's somewhat off topic here, but having had positive experiences with buying and selling on Basschat I thought I might as well mention it here. (I apologise if it's way too off topic, I don't mean to spam). It's an NEC VT770, it was bought brand new for approx. £2000 in 2006. It hasn't been used for some time, and I need to sell it to raise funds for new equipment. It's in immaculate condition, and comes with the original carry case, remote control, manual, cables etc, as well as an extra adapter for a Mac Powerbook. I used it to project visuals from my laptop onto a stage backdrop, and occasionally for work presentations. It's fantastic as a home cinema projector, and can be connected to computers, DVD players, games consoles etc. It will go up on Ebay any second now, but I thought I'd give it a shot here too, I'm looking for around £450 o.n.o, which is a bargain considering its' retail price, but like I said, I need to buy new kit and desperate times call for desperate measures... I'm happy to post photos and answer any questions, if anyone is interested give me a shout. adding preamp to passive warwick corvette
project_c replied to project_c's topic in Repairs and Technical
thanks for all the replies, i'm willing to go outboard too with something like the tonehammer or the sadowsky, but i'm getting a lot of conflicting opinions on 'what's best'.. i'm trying to bring as much sustained woody growl out of the corvette as possible, some people tell me to go active, others say get outboard gear - what route would you recommend in order to achieve this? -
i'm looking into the possibility of adding a preamp to my corvette std, does anyone have any recommendations / advice / words of warning about this? it's brand new territory for me so any advice is welcome.
