A Thousand Years Of Light (Danelectro Longhorn Bass with Pick)

A Thousand Years Of Light - live at LETS - New Psych Rock / Prog / Acid / Space Rock https://www.facebook.com/thousandyearsoflight Filmed by Brendan McGreal (Cornish Underground). Thousand Years of Light (TYOL) are an English progressive rock band formed in 2015 by Simon Trundle, Nick Perry, Tim Chapple and former guitarist John Weathered Warner. TYOL’s early 2015 sessions were unashamedly reflective of Hawkwind, using space rock, prog and elements of psychedelia. After John’s departure in February 2017, TYOL began to rework their material with current guitarist Si Spring. Si has inspired TYOL to develop a powerful, retro, prog rock sound with the use of increasingly atmospheric and dramatic arrangements, richer melodies and dynamically combining grinding, powerful guitars with long, drifting lead breaks. Passages of truly astounding prog offers the platform to the strong, haunting voice of Perry to deliver his epic and sometimes grandiose lyrics that are in no way eclipsed by the band’s bizarre stage names including Baron Von T, Mirrorhead, Didier Pulsar and Pan Zooot. Thousand Years of Light remain contemporary despite their influences and perhaps could best be described as, 21st century prog! "Something is happening, emerging, crystallising from compassion. An awakening, a movement, a realisation. The crystallising machine of change".

New strings for Dano Long Horn Bass
Tim Chapple replied to Tim Chapple's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yes - looks like Rotos are the best bet -
I'm looking to replace the strings on my Korean longhorn, I can't remember what strings Dano put on them from new? I'd like as much or maybe more twang. I like the tension and gauge of the original strings, and flats are not an option, as I've got my Mustang set up with flats already. I was concerned about getting them through the small tuner peg I'm guessing they are 40-90 gauge strings.

A Thousand Years Of Light (MIJ Mustang with pick)
Tim Chapple replied to Tim Chapple's topic in Share Your Music
Nice one Stephen, thank you - I love the zoom for recording, but it is sometimes a lottery in terms of placement when you are using the internal mics. -
Here's a live recording from my band - I'm using a MIJ Mustang Bass, recorded on a ZOOM R8 Recorder. I have PJ Mustang - Which Fender Short Scale will compliment it?
Tim Chapple replied to Tim Chapple's topic in Bass Guitars
I like the punchiness of the single coil, Squier Vista certainly would be a better bet than the original spec Musicmaster. A vain hope I suppose, but always looking to find an old modded musicmaster...... Must have been plenty of them with upgraded pickups and bridges? -
I have the Mustang PJ, which I love. I've discovered short scales after many years on longer scale basses. I would like to buy a second Fender short scale - my budget will allow a used MIJ Mustang re-issue, or a beat up Musicmaster Bass. I'm hoping to find a bass that plays as well as the PJ, but is sonically different as I don't want two basses that do the same thing. So - which one would you choose?

Why bother with guitar cases? - I'm gonna sell mine and just use bubble wrap
-
I've received and sent quite a few guitars over the years, however this one took me by surprise. Sent by courier in an unpadded gig bag, and wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap. Miraculously it arrived in one piece. (Does Rolf voice) - "Can you tell what it is yet?"

Don't be in too much of a rush to add flats or tapes - they sounded wonderful played solo, but lacked definition in a loud band context. I'm now back with the stock strings - plenty of bottom end as well as cut. This is the best short scale bass I've played - the jazz pickup transforms it. I've heard a lot pf people are using the pbass pickup only - I've found that option lacking soundwise. Currently running both pickups with the tone rolled back just a little.
I used to have this bass in the past so It's "worthy" and comfortable instrument, a good basis to mods, and has great case (case can be used as a sledge for kids during winter!) I recommend if you looking for cheap P-style passive bass! Has quality wood and forget about these Chinese cheap sh*tty basses instead!
Afraid the case is non - original on this one, it's like an American version of a Gator case, but better lined
-
For what it's worth. . . . These are great basses!! The Super Ferrite pick-ups are brilliant! If this was one of the more "Favoured" American brands, it would be a LOT MORE MONEY than this. That's all folks!!
- Can't argue with that !
