  1. Yep, totally with you on this one @mcnach. Awesome looker, and I'm well into PJ's at the moment.
  2. @Al Krow Nothing in particular really, I've toyed with the idea of having one for a long time. I discussed with @Marc S last night about how it seems to make you play very differently, almost like you're appreciating every note rather than just trying to get to the next one. There's little chance of me ever becoming a fretless virtuoso of any description, but I think it's good to have it, just for when that different voice is required. Either that or I'll just end up playing Paul Young over and over.
  3. Not to worry Marc, I drink enough tea in work, Ha! Yep, I went with a sharpie on the even number dots, and it makes a lot more sense now! It did indeed sound lovely through your TC 2x8 combo, nice amp that!
  4. Thanks for asking AK, as it happens I picked it up last night! It's a ESP/LTD PJ, found locally on Gumtree for the princely sum of £150, with one of those hard foam soft/hard cases. Well happy with it, stopped by to see @Marc S on my way home and he agreed I got a bit of a bargain too. Spent a little time with it last night, changed the Rounds that were on it for some TI flats, gave it a quick setup, which I plan to re-visit tomorrow evening and check everything has stayed where I'd like it. It's an Unlined, but somewhat strangely, it has side dots for every fret position. Got a sharpie on the 2,4,6,8 etc dots and now it makes a lot more sense!
  5. I'd have to say a 5-String USA Musicman SUB, if you can find one. You'll even have a couple of hundred quid left over. One of these: When I played 5-stringers, I had one and it had probably the best Low B I've ever heard.
  6. Whenever I visit 'That London' I always go to the Gallery during my stays. It's a great shop and the guys have always been super friendly and not pushy every time I've been there. Usually ends up with me parting with a sizeable amount of cash! Keep up the good work gents!
  7. Lovely - I've got one of these and it's probably my favourite Precision out of all I've ever had. Lovely feel all around, and mine is nice and light too.
  8. That does sound very cool!
  9. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-SQUIER-PRECISION-BASS/222850080938?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Very nice Fiesta Red CV Squier, price seems a little high to me though.. He's right in that they are sought after, I'd love one, but not sure I'd part with £350 for one.
  10. Ah ha! Eureka moment! It seems lined Basses (granted I only did a quick google images search) also have dots in the position where you'd find them on a fretted Bass. To me having both seems confusing, I think I'd be going for the dots and therefore be out of tune. Whereas Unlined just have the side dots in the fret line position. Seems to make more sense, to me anyway, I think I can see which way this is now going.....
  11. Indeed, this seems to be the case, it's proper 50/50 so far. Maybe I'll pickup one of the Thomann HB jaco-alikes and see what I think.. My only dilemma is I've seen an unlined ESP/LTD fretless PJ on Gumtree nearby which I think is a bit of a steal. Plus it's got a proper precision sized neck/nut and a PJ layout on a rather nice looking body. One of these: Can only really afford to get one or the other right now, hmmmmm...
  12. As the title says, I’m looking to buy my first fretless, just to have one in the armoury as it were. It seems to me that having a lined neck would make it easier for someone who’s never played fretless before... What’s the general consensus on this?
  13. Indeed, plus both together should sound monstrous!
  14. Congratulations, Lovely Story and a Super cool Bass. Did you play 'Wherever I lay may hat' first?
  15. When I saw the pic of the 3 configurations you were thinking about, this was the one I thought you should go for...
  16. First, make sure the neck relief is where you want it before doing anything, as a little more relief in the neck will raise the action at the nut. If there's nothing to be gained by adjusting the Truss rod, there's a few well known bodges for filling and re-cutting nut slots (just search youtube), but the only real clean fix is to replace the nut. I will say if you need to raise it by 1mm, it must be cut very very low....
  17. Being such a 'one-off' Bass, I think some sound clips might very well help with the sale. Very cool looker, GLWTS anyway...
  18. Recently some better shops have opened up in the South Wales Area, but before that it was dreadful. We got a PMT in Cardiff City Centre, and I hear good things about 'A Strings' which is in Pontypridd. Before that we had the ridiculously overpriced Cranes in Cardiff/Swansea (now closed), and Gamlins is still there in Cardiff, but they're not the most 'interested' bunch really. Also GM Music in Cardiff where you literally cannot swing a cat.
  19. No I still have it, just stopped bumping as it wasn't getting much love at the time. I have since had the neck pickup cover signed by the man himself too...
  20. Subscribed - Looking for a cheap fretless to dip my toe as well.....
  21. Congrats, Very nice! Nice gig too ( I assume it's a Dusty Springfield tribute)..
  22. Lucky you! These are like Rocking horse poo these days.....
  23. I'm glad this isn't a Fretted Version. My Mrs would be very upset with me! Lovely Bass, GLWTS.
