  1. Indeed, it's nice if it sounds good on-stage, but as long as FOH sounds good, all that really matters is you can hear yourself..
  2. In the covers band, it's our own PA which I'm charged with setting up/operating, so that's nice and easy. More difficult in my originals band, I still use the Helix, but we're the same as you, sometimes there's only time for a line check so I can't use my in-ears. In that case I'll normally ask for a wedge mix. If I can't have that, I'll make do with whatever is bleeding back from the Rig / stage sound..
  3. I would expect the main differences to be the weight and neck dimensions. MY PB50 is quite heavy (don't know the exact weight sorry), and the necks are very chunky. I like that about it mind you. I'd expect the squier to have a modern C neck and be lighter... But I could be completely wrong!
  4. In-ears fed from the PA, I have a full band mix, with my vocal and the bass louder than they should be. Love it!
  5. Helix LT is what I use, no complaints! I don't need the extra ins/outs that the Full Helix has, and don't need the scribble strips or a separate headphone volume. There's not much more missing from the LT vs Full Helix.
  6. My thoughts exactly Russ. Not a cheap solution, but good grief, it really works! I don't even have an amp on stage any more, Bass-Helix-PA, in-ears for monitoring.
  7. I'm particularly impressed with the neck tint. Would you mind sharing how you've done that?
  8. Amazing work Discreet! Every time I look over my guitar rack and see the PB-50 there, I think about the ones you've done and how I really should do something similar.....mine has the Wilkinson Pickup in it so I'm not sure I'd need to replace that.. I've even got the headstock re-shaping template...hmmmm..
  9. Haha, another plus for these then! The list goes on! But I don't need one, really I don't.... Will Karlfer be able to resist though, I wonder! I've a feeling these might be right up his street.....
  10. Yup, 70's neck profile, 7.25" radius, dots/bound, natural, black pickguard. What's not to like? I know I'd be all over that if I was in the market for a precision..
  11. Yup, I like that Precision! Not seen / heard anything about these!?
  12. I think I could get through a gig on any nut width, I've owned most types. But my favourite is the Fender 'B' width or 42mm. This is born of playing a '78 Precision for roughly 20 years. It was my only Bass, and now that nut width just feels familiar and comfy to me. Ah, remember the good old days when you only had one bass!?!?
  13. Haha thanks! Been through those a few times already! That Failure song 'Smoking Umbrellas' - WOW What a Bass sound!
  14. TC Polytune clip. Never failed at all. Even in Very noisy situations.
  15. Yup! Or even just sell them separately anyway, but I expect they wouldn't sell as many Basses then....

  17. Yes, I think Sibob missed the part about wanting to tune the thicker strings to standard EADG.
  18. Cool! When you've finished weeping with joy, do remember to add loads of pics to your NBD thread!
  19. Can't stop listening to Youtube clips of Wals at the moment. It's just that SOUND. I'm not sure I've ever heard a better bottom end, and they ALL have it. YMMV!
  20. Thanks for this Steve! Hugely helpful, but yes it'd be a 4 string for me..
  21. Just a thought - If you're going to try and put smaller screws in there than it currently has, will they grip the screwholes properly? Also, it seems a lot of effort to go to for something which can't really be seen... Congrats on getting the bass though! I reckon we all need to see some pics mind you.....
  22. They will go floppy if the strings have been tuned to standard pitch for all of their 'life' and then tuned down. Could that be contributing to your problems? If so, might be worth trying buying your normal strings and tune them to E flat from new. Might require a little bit of Truss rod adjustment too. As others have said, going up a gauge will also help.
  23. Thanks, Sage advice indeed, I fell foul of this with a 4003 I bought. Luckily, a chap I know who lives nearby has a rather nice mk1 which I'm intending to have a proper try out on.
