I use in-ears for live playing with no amp on stage. Last in my pedal board is a Sansamp ParaDriver and that goes direct to the Mixer. I then have my own mix for my IEM's from an aux send on the desk. Part of my pedal board is the EBS Billy Sheehan deluxe distortion. That pedal keeps your clean signal on at all times, but you can blend the amount of distortion that you need/want in and switch the distortion in/out as necessary. What I found was that with the distortion turned on, where I blended enough in as I was listening through my IEM's, that same amount wasn't enough to be heard properly through the FOH. So I set the amount of distortion blend based on what was coming out of FOH. Sounds a little wild in my IEM's on times, but at least I know the FOH sound is correct. Basically what i'm saying is echoing what's already been said above, you need to set your distortion levels based on what comes out of your live rig, what you hear through headphones in isolation isn't a good representation of the sound that comes out of your amp in a live setting. If you can't do it in the dead time after setup, before you actually start your first set, then book a rehearsal room on your own and crank it up, then spend some time on your pedal board settings.

Not an ex-user but I did swap from Super compacts to the retro two10. I guess over the years I've got used to 'coloured' sounding cabs and the SC's were too transparent for me really. If needs be I can plug straight into my TC BH250 thru the two10 and to my ears, it sounds bloody marvellous.

Cheers Ed, pleasure to meet you, I hope the Bass serves you well..

P/J in Series/Parallel - Anybody Tried It?
LewisK1975 replied to Norris's topic in Repairs and Technical
A new loom is on order with him
Might have to wait until after pay day. -
I had one for a while, they're good bridges. Didn't like the brass inserts much but you can get steel alternatives. In theory you can adjust the string spacing with the inserts but I wasn't too convinced. Had it on my Road Worn P for a while, but in the end moved it on as I preferred the threaded-barrel BBOT fitted as stock. I've also been looking at this, though the spacing be fixed: https://www.thomann....ge_iv_brass.htm
Oooh I like that too. Good price as well!

Cool, been wondering about these myself since the BAII became impossible to get any more. I like the idea of the Brass saddles, which, correct me if I'm wrong, also offer sideways movement so you can adjust the string spacing?

Using one amps Pre amp and another amps Power Amp
LewisK1975 replied to Sweeneythebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
If it's the sound of the Tone Hammer you love, and just want it to be louder, what about the Tone Hammer pedal / DI Box? That has a DI out for sending to a PA, and the 'normal' out for sending to whatever amp you like. -
Yep - Looks OK to me.

P/J in Series/Parallel - Anybody Tried It?
LewisK1975 replied to Norris's topic in Repairs and Technical
I might just give KiOgon a shout when I've found out if the knobs are split shaft or splines
I may very well do the same, just picked up a cheap Squier PJ for a backup and that mod sounds handy... -
Using one amps Pre amp and another amps Power Amp
LewisK1975 replied to Sweeneythebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah, without a FX send / Preamp out, that's a difficult one. You can't be sure if the tuner out is before or after the EQ etc. Easy to test though, amplify the signal from the tuner out somehow and adjust the EQ. See if it has any effect on what you hear from the second amp. Also as the DI sends a lo impedance, balanced signal (that's it's job), and the second amp is going to be expecting a high impedance, unbalanced signal it's difficult to say what will happen, sound-wise.. I wouldn't think you'll break anything by trying either though. Just start with your gains and masters at zero and turn up very slowly. -
Thanks all. It is indeed mii Marc.

Travelled to do a halfway meet up with Ed, he bought my Fender USA Geddy Lee Jazz. Ed's a really nice bloke,we didn't have long to chat as we both had to travel home again, but it was a very easy transaction. Thanks again Ed, deal with confidence folks!

Thanks all I ended up buying the Squier, but you all knew that was coming anyway, right? Turned out to be a really decent Bass, chap had bought it over 15 years ago, with the best intentions of learning to play but never really bothered. No (and I mean ZERO) fret wear, truss rod works fine. Pots a bit scratchy (to be expected), Jack socket needed tightening. Strings were OK, still pretty bright. You can't see from the Gumtree pictures I showed above, but it's a Metallic Black colour. Gave it a once over on the weekend, set it up to my taste and I'm really quite pleased! Perfect Backup Bass.

Me too, finally watched this last night. The OP pretty much describes it exactly, Great film but a very difficult watch on times, especially the scene with Jesse being interviewed for French TV. Couldn't take my eyes off it. And pretty much held my breath for most of it.

Going to see the Squier after work..

Love that. Great Job!

Any Cab recommendations for Ashdown ABM600
LewisK1975 replied to Sarlscharisma's topic in Amps and Cabs
The 410t should be a good match, is there something about the 410t you didn't like when using it with the ABM300, that's making you wonder about getting a new cab? -
3. this is just another GAS excuse
I'm considering this too.

Cheers Lozz, anyone else wanna put their 2p in?

Images of local Squier, it's not an 'affinity' the small text on the headstock says 'standard' by the look of it:

Mulling this one over! Since having my American Elite P-Bass in April, I re-developed a love for Precision shaped PJ Basses. So, since I like to have a similar sounding Backup for gigs, I find myself trying to decide which of these options to do: 1 - Buy a secondhand Squier PJ I've seen locally (Buyer wants £150 with a Fender practice amp, may be able to knock down / just buy the bass without the amp) 2 - Modify one of my existing Precisions into PJ (either a Roadworn P or maybe the Harley Benton PB50) Of course another option is: - 3 - Not worry about my backup sounding similar to my main bass. Thoughts and opinions appreciated! Ta muchly!

And here's what my Harley Benton PB50 might look like if modified to my taste, if I was clever enough.
