1. IMHO they are THE marmite Bass. If you're going to go ahead make sure you try one whilst standing up and wearing it on a strap, i.e., normal playing position. I only say this coz that's where I went wrong. I bought one from The Gallery in Camden some years ago, played it for a good while in the shop, whilst sitting on a stool. Loved it, bought it. Took it on its first gig and it became a different guitar. Lack of arm chamfer made it very painful on the forearm, also I was mainly a pick player at the time, and even though I had Martin take off the top bit, I was still catching my pick on the huge pickup surround which stands proud of the body. For me, it was undoubtedly the best looking Bass I've ever worn, but I simply couldn't play it. I don't doubt I could have spent some time modifying my technique and made it work somehow, but I couldn't be @rsed honestly.
2. Guns N Roses Friday!
3.
Do quiet rehearsal bands play quietly at gigs too? No reason to knock someone else's rehearsal style. My band is better than your band etc.
I didn't suggest it meant my band was better. True, it's up to the band how they want to rehearse. All my point was suggesting is that having been in bands which rehearse loud, and in bands which rehearse at lower volumes, I have found that better results are achieved by rehearsing at lower volume. Rehearsal is just that, rehearsal. It's for getting the songs nailed. And IMHO, it's easier to do that if everything is at a level where it's easier to spot mistakes / opportunities for improvement.... I take the point that Drummers don't tend to have a volume control, but in my experience most of them have the ability to play a bit quieter, heck that even happens in songs, right? lots of songs have quiet passages, therefore drummers can play quieter when needed. As always with my posts - YMMV!
4.
what's that brown thing between the pickguard and bridge?
Isn't that just a reflection of the floor? Happy NBD to the OP.
5. Have to agree, great specs and great looks, not something I would have thought to do myself...top work!
6. Blimey - shouldn't think this'll be around long.
7. IMHO - a 60 watt amp should be OK for rehearsals. It's not a gig, and shouldn't be done at gig volumes. YMMV!
8. One last bump at £400 delivered!!
9.
Why do I keep finding out you've got even more basses than I previously thought Lewis? lol
Haha ''tis the way I roll!
10. I'm assuming the colour has been chosen to make it easier to read the panel on dark stages, but IMHO it's AWFUL. YMMV!
11. Marvellous!! Nice one chaps!
12. I've actually got one of these PB-50 basses, currently stock. Came as a part trade on something else I sold. Cogs be turning after reading this thread! To the guys who did these, how did you nail the headstock shape before taking tools to them?
13.
I had a EH Black Finger compressor; a bit Emporer's New Clothes to me. May investigate a Boss BC-1X.
If you're gonna go for one, I'd really recommend the TC spectracomp pedal. 1 knob and sounds great even in it's 'standard' / 'out of the box' setting..
14. Given that Eich (and indeed Tecamp) amps have the 'taste' knob, which takes you from vintage to old school, I'd guess their cabs are more than capable of either....
15. Hmmm - not happening is it. OK - Price drop to £400! If it doesn't go for that, I'll withdraw and keep it. Ta!
16. Don't know if you use effects, but it sounds like a bit of compression will go a long way to help you out with that...
17. Yep - tapping my in-ears has saved me many times. Unfortunately I don't think there is a 'humane' solution to this. It's all part of today's 'me me me' society, and those types think you're there to serve them and that's that as far as their concerned. Out of everything I've read so far, my favourites have been the more humorous retorts, I think that's as close as you'll get to 'humane' Such as (over the mic) 'That's a very kind offer but I'm Married' One I've used before with folk who get the hump - 'How would you like it if I come down to your office on Monday and start shouting at you while you're trying to work?'
18. Hiya Kert, Must pop round for that cuppa we been on about for a long time! We've used backing tracks for synth lines etc, when we have what we need, we generally have a stereo track with the music on the right and a click track on the left. You can then feed the click to in-ears only for time keeping with the music, and the track to FOH..
19. 6 years between post #11 and 12? for sale link was last bumped in feb'15? Wass goin on ere?! I'm lost!
20. Deleted.
21. You'll be fine, no issues using a pick on a Jazz. Go for it.
22. Lovely example of these cracking basses. GLWTS.
23.
mmmmmm ..... you have obviously not visited Mrs Whiplash's emporium of sexual deviance have you ? Uww eerm,,..apparently
Course not...
